We absolutely adore Kantor! Such a lovely island with the nicest people on shore. Great quiet anchorage and loads of interesting exploring to do. Unfortunately, a big fire ripped through part of the village recently and destroyed a few homes. Hope they've recovered and life is returning to normal.
as nice as it is to see the land and culture, it is just as nice just to see the boat sailing open water. I know the waterspouts and other obstacles in the water is scary, but glad that you made it safely.
I’m glad that you made it safely past all the water spouts and obstacles ⛵️ that’s amazing that you got to explore so much of Indonesia. It is such a beautiful country.
Coincidentally, this week a WhatsApp group here in the Med have been discussing water spouts as one of our members saw 10! in one day on east coast of Italy. He met a fellow sailor who had his dinghy ripped off the davits when it collided with them!
Lingga is still Indonesia, and it's Indonesia all the way up to the Singapore Strait, but because we've checked out we cannot go ashore. We are now a "ship in transit".
Thank you! That's a solar-posted flashing light. Despite colregs, we display flashing lights while at anchor. It's what the fishing vessels are used to seeing.
You mentioned briefly about a tanker altering its course as you were on a collision course. Would a large ship like that alter its course for you? Or vis versa?
They do and it did. It was a confusing predicament as we had fishing boats around us and he was struggling to work out which vessel was ours. He made a real meal of it and, to be honest, sounded inexperienced. I know that's hard to believe of a commercial skipper but my guess is that he does the same run on the same course every week. Asking him to alter course threw him, but he did it. After over taking he then altered back again and ran alongside us for a few miles while continuing the conversation on the VHF!
I sailed with people who never wanted to reef at sundown. Made me a bit nervous, but it all worked out. The weather where we were was pretty consistent and if it changed in the night, we'd get up and reef. Still I'd rather have reefed. Several years ago I went back to Detroit to visit family. Since I left they'd installed a tornado alert siren system. The way it works is when the alarm goes off all the women and kids go into a basement and all the men stand in the middle of the street and look for funnel clouds. Seemed okay. I knew I could be in a basement long before things got serious. Then the siren went off at night. And the men all went into the middle of the street.... and couldn't see anything. So at night what happens if one of the water spouts hits the boat? I'm sure they're less likely at night...and less intense than tornadoes, but.... I also know from being caught up in or near to whirlwinds. They don't make much noise and when I've been caught up in them, I didn't notice them until I was in it. But not too serious. What you experience is a sudden gust of wind and dust. Okay, but then it starts blowing in the opposite direction. That's when you figure out what just happened. (I remember my son chasing after my hat. He ran off after it and then he ran back when it changed direction.)
Brilliant. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts here (I'm still seeing your soon chasing your hat). I guess the answer is that if a waterspout hits at night you've already reefed, are hooked on and ready for it... 😬😄 Liz
Yes, our boat is one of the best and has taken us through anything the sea throws at us. For us, getting into the culture is why we do this. Thanks for commenting! Liz 🙏
Absolutely fudging fabulous vlog, my darlings!
All love and best wishes to you both, Claire and the new 'sofa crew', Berlin❤❤❤
Thank you so much!

Great to see you two actually cruising again!
We've been doing lots of cruising recently, fella, where've you been? Yes, being out and about offshore is marvellous! 😀🙏⛵Liz
Nice sailing guys

Thanks, Jerome. The sailing was excellent, especially that last day.

Thanks, Amy. It really is, isn't it?
Good news the waterspouts were only visable in the distance. The closing footage is fantastic. 💜🩷🧡
Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, it was a bit of a worry as that cloud was coming straight across us.
Quote of the month.... "From here on in it will be plain sailing!"
Theres nothing like tempting fate for an interesting life 😂 ❤ 😅
I think Liz added that comment in just for a laugh 😅
@@followtheboat Mission accomplished, had me laughing like a madman lol

Nothing but horror stories when it comes to waterspouts, Lynette. We've seen quite a few now.
Nice video!
362nd tag-along view gonna jump on board in a bit... 6:26 - "We're not in Kansas anymore, Toto..."
😅 We're far, far away from Kansas
Fantastic, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the comment, so glad you enjoyed it! Liz 🙏

Great seeing you both. In what country is Linga? And for how long will you stay? Happily awaiting further adventures from Esper & Co.

HELLO again.. maybe I have missed it in the past. What is that attached to your stay? epirb?also. //the only truly sailing channel I watch.!

@@followtheboat ah! Ok thank you.
Watersproughts are scary
Yep, that's why we avoid them like the plague!

Are the beaches on Lingga, longga?
Loads! All the way along, although we didn't get so close to it this time.
Waterspouts a good sail what's not to love. I like the way you get into the culture, but your boat just sails well.
