Oh god the mud bowl how could I ever forget this! I was in the band at the time and somehow I got my foot stuck and had to hop on the other to get it out! To top off the weird some guy makes a field goal into the wind and wins the cash prize and our kicker slips and blows it!
You are correct on the play by play team. I’ve never gone out of my way to watch MAC football. But a friend of mine tipped me off early in the 2nd qtr of this and it’s potential for historically good mud conditions. I recall how giddy Mark May was while calling the game.
I remember watching this whole game live on ESPN, it was like Thursday night game I think. Early days of MACtion. I know its safer, and more cost effective but I miss natural turf fields in MAC and B1G country. Always made for good sloppy mud games late in the season
