Darn it. Still makes sorting much easier when moving stuff on/off a vehicle... and if you park in one spot for a long time, you can still apply the zones. I'd imagine the zones would put stuff on the ground under the vehicle, but from there it's easy to manually move stuff under the vehicle on top of the vehicle.
For anyone else not understanding the basics, like me, the basic functionality is this: Loot on the ground in a "Loot: Unsorted" zone will be moved into the other designated loot zones when you press Shift-O. Loot will not be moved from your inventory or from any Loot zone that is not "Loot: Unsorted". So if you manually drop a weapon into a Loot: Books zone, Shift-O will not move it to the proper location.
Neat trick. Since favorite items are denoted with the * symbol, you can use the custom zone and have * as the filter so it will sort your favorite items in that zone. Make sure it is at the top of the zone list but below the unsorted zone so your favorite items won't be sorted in the other locations.
Thx Vorm!!! I was just learning about this last night! And here you are posting a video on it! Great job!! And the farming zones seem really useful! I am a packrat when it comes to loot! lol....So i definitely need and will be making great use of this!
Ah yes, Vorm, I was wondering, would you please put out a video on the new butchering mechanics as well? What is needed for each type of butcher? Which one to use to get certain mats? I am still quite confused about it.
Thanks man ... over 100 hours in cdda and ... oof AND NEVER KNEW THIS WAS POSSIBLE !!!!!!! So much time lost sorting shit .... ah whatever now I can appreciate the game more.
Thank you so much for this video series Vormithrax! I have just recently started playing Cataclysm per my brothers suggestion and I am completely blown away by its depth. I can't stop playing! I was learning what I could through the wiki and in game resources, but your videos are showing so many practical tips and tricks that are greatly increasing the enjoyment I get from playing the game. This one in particular was very helpful! Now I can get back to looting sooner :D You also taught me how to do a reach attack and that help a lot. I didn't think to press the fire key. I hope you keep making videos! They make this awesome game friendly to learn.
Hey thanks man this video really helped with the whole chaos that I had in my base, im a hoarder myself in this game and I actually like to craft the items rather than finding them mainly because of survivor grade gear, Tools & items or having a better quality item than its before the cataclysm factory quality but right now as I posted this comment the new version of cataclysm updated by the launcher you can now bind zones to vehicle cargo which im not sure if it means if the zone now moves along with the binded cargo or not but if it does that makes vehicles even more powerful and in my opinion makes bases less favorable now but still neat to have nontheless.
May be it's a bit of outdated hint, but I believe 'map view' option is for zones that exists somewhere else, if you show them in list toggling with S key. I didn't check it yet by myself, but at least it's logical.
Hi there, I don't know where else to ask this, as both the wiki and the in-game help section lack any sort of answer to my question: How do I make a custom stockpile that contains food and drink, including when it's in a container, but won't also include empty containers? I've been spending the last 30 minutes or so cursing like a sailor, because no matter what I do, I either get no food in containers, or I get empty containers in addition to the ones that contain food. I've tried "c:food, c:drink, c:containers", "c:food, c:drink, c:containers, -empty" and all kinds of variations of the two. I even tried "c:food, c:drink, +c:containers". Any response at all would be a blessing.
Sorry, i can't help with this one. Other than in the making of that video, i have never used the zone manager. I'm way out of date on it's uses/options/commands.
Having trouble getting cattail seeds to be planted in zones when pressing Shift O... I've made the zone with shift y (for 10 SEEDS) but can't place the seeds
Wow, that's super handy. I wish I'd known about that. (Edit: Just read the first comment) Aww, too bad it doesn't work for vehicles. Is it a strict no-vehicles rule, or will it just put items on the ground beneath, say, a stationary vehicle-based storage system, or what?
I believe it just puts them on the ground at that location. It cannot pick between vehicle storage and ground storage at the same location so just uses the ground.
Ah, ok. Well I guess moving a whole tile worth of stuff into vehicle storage is pretty easy with advanced inventory, so it's plausible for (stationary) vehicle use at least. Still, very cool system.
Nope. I never made any videos for a stable version anyway. I only play experimental builds and every one of my videos was made using whatever the current experimental build was most recent at the time. I gave up the hopeless quest of trying to keep the stuff 'up-to-date' pretty much immediately given how large the game is and how ridiculously fast it updates in experimental. No guide, video or written, survives contact with the CDDA experimental build cycle for long. I'm also currently taking a break from the game after nearly 6 years of non-stop CDDA live-streams/tutorials/question-answering.
For a new player this feels useful yet totally useless right now. What I need in my life is a splitting objects and a choice to drop items adjacently. Otherwise, fires are such a pain to individually throw wood scraps into and dropping loot is a total pain.
Not sure why you are having problems dropping items. Lots of ways to do it. And you can select specific amounts to drop anytime. use 'D' to drop to an adjacent tile. Or you can learn to use AIM (Advanced Inventory Management) to really have control of your inventory (watch my University episode for that one). You can type a number before using the arrow key to select an item to drop (this will then show a # sign instead of a plus to show a partial amount is being moved/dropped).
The construction menu also allows you to designate a spot as fuel for a fire, and it will automatically refuel when needed if you do actions that take time.
No. You can see my Speed stat in the upper right as i am walking around on the mounds. They do not slow you down....at least not when this video was recorded. I do not farm in CDDA so cannot confirm the current behavior.
I have the discontinued version from google play. So i dropped my loot on the floor and pressed Y. Then (A)dd zone It only gives me two options. No pickup zone and no npc pickup zone.
Additional note: loot zones do NOT work for vehicle storage. Mobile base users will still have to sort loot the old/slow way.
@@r3dp9 This has been updated at some point and it now works for vehicle storage spaces.
Rycon needs to see this.
I hope Rycon is subscribed to Vorm.. Otherwise we might have to take drastic measures. :D
Tweet it at him.
I have seen it now! Thanks Vorm!
Oh my god Vorm. Thank you! I was literally farming last weekend and had to take multiple breaks to let my hand relax. We are friends now.
😃

Vorm, you're the best. Thanks for posting great tips for the community!
holy shit, i thought zones are for some NPC shenanigans.
what a godsend
😃
All I gotta say is thank you. This is great. Rycon Roleplays said something about this in his latest CDDA play through and I had to see.
Your welcome. I'm glad you found it useful.

This just made my life so much easier. Thank you Vorm, for giving us packrats and farmers hope for skipping 4 million key presses! You're the best!
Can't believe I've been sorting things manually for this long while this existed. Thanks!
omfg I've been wasting my life sorting items manually like a chump. You're an absolute legend¡

Thanks for this, looking forward to giving it a try! Tip #38? Looks like I've got more to look forward to, thanks for that too!
👍
Thank you, you saved my life.
This is awesome! How did I not know about this?
7:45 "So pack rats could see how valuable is this"
Yes... Just... Yes...
I really need this. I had sorted everything manually and took so long I got bored
Or you could just hoard less stuff.... 😃
That was never an option
If it exists it needs to be min3
Awesome! Kudos to the programmer (and you of course!).

a year or so into this game........ and i just find this video
Fuck my life =|
I finally used this and my character died of old age.
I think you can auto-harvest using the same method as the auto-foraging setting in the auto-pickup menu. Please correct me if I'm wrong though.
Possibly, i have don't ever farm in CDDA. Additional options have been added to the 'Auto' options since the video was created.
Nice, thx. :)
Can you have it drop onto furniture?
Hey Vorm do you know if this is still valid in the latest Experimental version?
Zone managing? sure, it has expanded a bit more since I made this video.
@@Vormithrax Thanks for the confirmation. it'll make sorting a lot easier now!

No. You can see my Speed stat in the upper right as i am walking around on the mounds. They do not slow you down....at least not when this video was recorded. I do not farm in CDDA so cannot confirm the current behavior.
what's the name of this tileset?
github.com/SomeDeadGuy/Cata-MSX-DeadPeopleTileset
Does this work on mobile?
There is an android version but i have never used it and do not know what state it is in. discourse.cataclysmdda.org/t/android-version/13348
I have the discontinued version from google play.
