I feel like Doug's chat wouldn't go through the first dealer without shooting themselves constantly. And then he would invent AI to play and make chat compete with it.

I don't know why but buckshot roulette is the one game where I just cannot bear to watch people play wrong, and this video is my worst nightmare.

Fun fact: in the first shot of the game it's actually better to shoot the dealer.
If you don't take the 1/3 on the dealer, you have to use a 2/3 on yourself and then another 1/2 to deal dmg. Combined that makes the odds equal across both choices, however in the second case you are risking doing damage to yourself instead of just not dealing damage to the dealer (which sets you back an hp)
I've broken down the full decision tree on the 1-2 scenario. Starting with one live shell and two dummy shells, and assuming that the player, like the dealer, is smart enough to not shoot themself if the final shell is live, there are ten possible paths through the decision tree based on what the player and dealer do and where the live shell is located. Five of these start with the player aiming at themself, and the other five with aiming at the dealer. Assuming all player choices besides the final shell are equally weighted, if the player aims at themself, they will win only 2/5 of the time. If they aim at the dealer, they will win 3/5 of the time.
A simpler way to look at it is, there is overall a 50/50 shot of winning from the 1-2 scenario. But shooting at yourself erases the chance to win on the first shell, which just gives you worse odds; it's trading a 50/50 shot for a 50/50 shot _after_ already having shot at yourself. Meanwhile, the dealer taking their turn at 1-1 is still a coin-flip scenario, but he only gets that in the first place if you have already taken a shot at him, meaning the overall odds are weighted in your favour.

2:55 Actually, when there's one bullet and two blanks, your odds of successfully shooting the dealer with either method are the same. When you first shoot yourself, there's a 2/3 chance of that shot being a blank. Then, there's a 1/2 chance that the next bullet will be a live round. Multiplying those chances together gives 2/6, or 1/3, the same odds for shooting the dealer immediately and being successful.
This is the Monty Hall Problem all over again.
