Man, the final match was tough to watch. I’ve been playing since beta and have never touched the mAT for a number of reasons but mostly because I can’t find a team- and when I do they either rage quit or at least one person goes AFK. It’s cool to see how a functional team operates.
Used to be platinum but now struggle to get past S3 in ranked (mostly can’t keep up with the new elite specs/arthritis in hands), that’s okay, but I just hope Anet makes changes for the better. PvP is loooong overdue for quality of life updates.
The difference that Esprit talked about between PVP and WVW partecipation at high levels has a clear reason: stats work differently. Fights work differently. PVP is much more limitated, tiny, repetitive, it's much more boring. Also too easy to change dramatically in meta with just a tiny update in some skills because when stats are so severely limited everything you could do to compensate is reduced to nothing. Only the devs changes to skills and stuff matter, it's a very tighly piloted situation...not for everyone.
I think it'd be a pretty interesting idea (as an agreement between all the top players) to split up all the top players into 1-2 people and form their teams with people that want to participate in tournaments but haven't that much for the next mAT. People chosen from discords or from random matches that they were impressed with.
It would (maybe) give some of those people the motivation to participate again in the months after that.

I thought alot about the interview and something that kept creeping into my mind as i was hearing and reading the chat is that it feels like the current PvP culture is very antagonistic towards a MAT format.
See, a lot of people treat Gw2 PvP just like any other PvP game, *it's all about the ladder* and that insignificant rating number. People don't care about actually improving and enjoying themselfes in this game-mode. They talk about "balance issues" as if MOBAs like League and Dota don't suffer from awful design and balance problems.
I could go on about this, but my whole line of thought is a bit all over the place and covering exactly what i am thinking would lead up to a massive wall of text, but the short of one of my points is that. Culturally the playerbase is simply not adequate for a format like this; Even other PvP games suffer this problem, as Clash in League and Battle Cup in Dota show how people simply do not want to form groups and play together.
I think Catalyst needs to be buffed again in PvP.
Went from winning half my games during last season to losing almost all of them right now :D

Who wants to just sit in spawn and wait when the enemy team is dominating? Even if I try to go out and play a bit (maybe try to 1v1 someone) I get ganked and stay in spawn anyways, which is not fun at all. I'd hereby like to propose setting up 1v1s or teamfights somewhere instead of farming ppl off respawn to promote having fun instead of effective quick wins. Especially since you have to wait for the other matches to finish anyways before you get to play again...
only on matches where the winner is clear of course, specifically in case other people from the other team gave up and are afk, or similar situations.
If everyone's still trying to win go hard for the kills ^^
PVP is just too hard, WvW you can sort of pull through amongst better players as its the joint effort that ends on success, in sPVP, it's just way harder, there is no chance if you're slightly below in skill level, idk what i'm trying to say but I know that's the case.
The pvp matchmaking cant put you with people your skill level because not enough people are playing so it tries to reduce queue time by putting wildly different levels of players together. It is abysmal if you actually care about your performance.
wvw supports guild play & community. pvp has duo only for serious play, no wonder it has no community
Holo really not that strong outside of its favorable 1v1s as is shown here. Hard to call a spec good when it only does good in its perfect conditions. Kind of tired of this mentality in GW2. Holo is not fine especially condi.
