      It's hard to get rid of them if you don't use CO2 or liquid CO2 but it is much better already.

      Most of the plants are from Africa as well. Different Anubias species, Nymphaea zenkeri, Ammania senegalensis, Bolbitis heudelotii, Crinum calamistratum.
      Limnophila sessiliflora and the brown Cryptocoryne are from Asia. These are in because they are easy and beautiful plants. To help get rid of the algae.

    Ich dachte gleich, da würden sich drei oder vier Paare F.sjoestedti gut drin machen. Ist genug Platz und viele Versteckmöglichkeiten, dann bleiben die untereinander harmlos. Zumindest bei mir. Bei einem Kollegen haben sich die Männchen gekillt. Das Becken hatte aber weniger Versteckmöglichkeiten als mein Jungle... bei kleineren Fischen kann es passieren, dass die manchmal gefressen werden. Die können durchaus einige Zeit scheinbar friedlich zusammen schwimmen und schwupps auf einmal haben sie einen im Maul. Aber einfach wunderschöne Fische für große Aquarien. Halte sie auch auf 1,50m. Das passt ganz ok. Größer ist natürlich immer besser.
    Super schönes Aquarium!

      This is my first time keeping these large Fundolopanchax. Kept F. gardneri and Aphyosemion australe before. Also fantastic species but these guys are something else. Big, beautiful and scared of nothing. Also not seasonal fish like most killifish. They should get around 5 years old. Very curious to see how they will develop.

    • @gutefrage879
      @gutefrage879 6 днів тому

      @BjornV1983 yes but the eggs want a dry period. About 2 to 3 month. I have read it is possible without dry period. But never heard that someone habe experience with it. Usualy they lay there eggs in overfoating area after rain season. So the eggs have a dey period. The older fish will either dry out and die or they find some place to surrender the dry season. But usualy the will became food for some bigger fishes. During dry season is not so many space for all. Either you are small and can hide or realy big...
      So next rain season the fry will hatch very quickly. A lot of fishes will use the rain season for breeding. But Sjoestedti is already ready to hatch. So the younger babyfish from other species will be a food for them to grow quickly and again lay their eggs in the mud befor dry season...
      They can get old. But 5 years I nevee heard. The old Sjoestedtis are hardly productive anymore. So when you want to breed them, use young individuells.
      They are hunter and eat smaller fish. But take nearly everything. A very successfull breeder uses "compostworms" (compost is green garbage) for feeding them. Not only... you should not feed them to much! Very important. Small fish works great also. I usualy give flys (drosophila), granulate from sera, frozen food mix and also living food when I can catch some outside.
      If you want to breed take young individuals. Seperate male from female. Feed them good. Especialy the females for producing a lot of eggs. And do not let them to long together. In a small breeding tank the male can easily kill the female.

      @@gutefrage879 Thanks alot for all the info! I bought some peat today to make a breeding box. Hopefully they will breed in it so I can collect some eggs.
      How do you store the eggs? In a plastic bag at room temperature (20°C)?

    Hallo Björn habe mal eine Frage mir ist aufgefallen das in den Medien immer mehr über diese Wasserwechsel Thematik diskutiert wird 80 Prozent alle 14 Tage oder Altwasser Becken
    Finde beides nicht gut und kommt mir langsam wie im Kindergarten vor.
    Ich mache in meinem Malawisee Aquarium einmal im Monat 30 Prozent Wasserwechsel
    Wie machen Sie es ?

    • @BjornV1983
      @BjornV1983  8 днів тому +1

      I believe that water changes are necessary.
      How often and how much water you should change is different for every aquarium.
      It depends on the size of the aquarium, the amount and size of the fish, the light, plants, type of water (tap water, osmosis water, water from a well) etc.
      I believe changing less water more often is better than changing a lot of water at once. For example 20% per week is better than 80% per month. This will keep water parameters more stable.
      For Tanganyika and Malawi I would prefer to change more water because they often don't have plants.
      At the moment I use tap water in a large tank with not that many fish and quite some plants. Dutch tap water is of a very good and stable quality.
      The aquarium formerly had Tanganyika fish so the higher Gh and Kh the better.
      There are a lot of dead snails in the aquarium which are a disadvantage now with the Congo fish. Water should not be that hard anymore. That is why I consider osmosis water.

    Nice but all those fish and especially pelvicachromis (they have to dig holes in the sand for spawning and fry) need sand not gravel. The waters from which they come are slow streams through forests with mud and sand as substrate

    • @BjornV1983
      @BjornV1983  26 днів тому

      Thanks!
      Pelvicachromis need detritus actually so that they are able to eat all day long. I tried to create these circumstances by adding (Catappa) leaf litter and alder cones. The substrate is a mix. Part of it is very fine sand, more like dust. Have you seen the video where these fish are breeding and dug a hole?
      You are most likely using sand with the same diameter particles. To create a more natural look you could use sand with different sizes. But then you'll also experience that bigger sand always creeps on top of smaller sand.
