Claudia is amazing... and yeah, she has an interesting running style (as so many seemingly know better here... hmmmm)... but mechanics aside... this girl can run and she has heart. Something so few have. I believe she'll smooth out her form in time. She is someone to watch... that's for sure!
Malibu High is actually right next to the Pacific Ocean, such a beautiful view while you work out. The other "just up the road" high school is Newbury Park High School! So, what's the secret? The water, the clean air, it has to be something!!
Her form obviously needs improvement. She had awesome turnover but her arm swing and pounding waste a ton of energy and arguably are the cause of her injuries.
She reminds me of Pre in a way. Unorthodox form. Runs from the front. Fearless. Strength runner. Anyone who wants to beat her needs to give it everything they have. From what Ive read about her she has a good head on her shoulders and is not only focused on running. If she doesn't get burnt out she'll be one to watch in college and beyond.
Bolt Clan Lane is very fast and has great natural speed and breathing capabilities. But she does not have more top end natural speed than New Yorker Katelyn Tuohy. Tuohy has run both faster adjusted track and XC splits and final times than Lane at every single meaningful distance and on every surface. And we are not talking about adjusted times that are just a few seconds faster, but times that in some races are 30-40 seconds adjusted faster. I really like Lane a lot, but we'll see how good she really is if Tuohy decides to run in the Footlocker XC Championships in San Diego this year instead of the Nike/NX championship XC series back East. The problem I have with Lane versus Tuohy in a match type race is that they are both stone cold front runners like Prefontaine, and Tuohy simply has more natural speed than Lane, which would force Lane to probably stalk instead of lead if Tuohy comes out West in December.
As so many have already pointed out, although she is an amazing talent, her mechanics needs improvement. She may show an abundance of talent now, but when (and if) she reaches the elite college or professional ranks, the mechanics will be that much more important. Bad habits are harder to break over time.
I don't know if this is something you can always correct. Not sure about Claudia personally, but speaking for myself here. I had bad form as a XC runner, and I knew it, and tried to fix it. I went to a podiatrist, tried all different shoes, etc. It ended my ability to run distance early, but I swear on my life I just have a really messed up body that can't do the thing that other elite runners do. Weird arc in my spine, legs effectively different lengths, flat feet. I feel like if my kids inherit my endurance with my wife's body mechanics, they'll be way better than I was. Oh well.
She's doing these intervals in clunky trainers too.. Mizuno Inspire. It's a tough shoe to be light on your feet with and they always sound like you're clomping around like a horse.
The comments are abhorent. This girl runs with a specific gait and form which is specific to her.If you watch many female long distance runners-many run with a weird form but still win.Paula radcliffe runs weird but she has broken many world records
Yes indeed. Brie is an amazing runner. The loss to Claudia at Arcadia motivated Brie, and I am glad she set a new HS record in the 2 mile. I also believe the Claudia's loss to Brie at Brooks will help motivate Claudia the next couple of years.
Andy L true but brie barely started xc and stuff so I expect her to be at the top of her game, this might be Claudia's wall, the best she will get. just uh sayin
She runs a bit awkward needs to be on her toes a bit more and loosen her arms let her stride come to her bring her foot up and out. Also when she stops needs to not stop so sudden but I'm not a coach so ;(
When I was young I ran way more awkward and I always stop sudden when I hit the line. No one would tell me I'm awkward because it's kind of stupid someone telling me I run weird when I dominate them. How weird did I run? Both my left arm and leg forward, right arm and leg back, repeat. They can only see it when they filmed it.
I wasn't running track but every school I went to, there was only one skinny track kid that beat me. And he had to practice his butt off. I was known not to practice, eat a pizza, hot dog and bet money, until I was told on, lol.
Hey! I made it in district for the 2400M run (6 laps, mile 1/2) and the meet is next Thursday,I'm really nervous and this really helped me calm down a little.
Heavy on her feet with lots of mechanical imbalances. Her career will be injury-riddled if she doesn't address that. It's really astounding how fast she is in spite of that though.
Dave Stuchbery say what you like, but that form caused her to get injured. Even she said herself, she wants to be more bouncy and strike the ground with less force to prevent injury
Love to watch her run. She seems to enjoy herself. She puts her whole heart into the race. May God bless her and give her good health. Reach for the heavens Claudia for that is where God dwells. Sending love and prayers for you, in the name of Jesus Christ.
You all need to chill she’s ver distance oriented and response better to that and so as soon as she does any speed work it’s hard but she’s at the point we’re she can’t get much faster so it’s time to introduce speed. She’s absolutely insane.
How does she break 10:00 off only 40 miles a week? There are very few HS boys who can even break 10 min off such low mileage. Where does she get the aerobic strength to do something so amazing?
Davis thats wrong...I ran in the low mileage era (early 90s). We had a bunch of guys in track in league running right around 10:00 on 30 mpw. They were running 4:30 for the 1600 so you can see the cardio was definitely holding them back from what they should have been at (9:30).
She would do well by watching Laura Muir train. Laura is about the same build and has a superb technique, particularly arms. Claudia is a little wild with her arms (Hassan like); and her feet slap the ground (heard it in the Footlocker XC too), she needs to be a lot lighter, achieved by running with arms not legs; with a heart like hers she will break records properly tuned.
Sarah Baxter was a heel striker as well if you look back on her form I heard that although it may be a faster way to run it's a way easier way to get injured from it
The comments are abhorent. This girl runs with a specific gait and form which is specific to her.If you watch many female long distance runners-many run with a weird form but still win.Paula radcliffe runs weird but she has broken many world records
Rather than being insulting perhaps you could furnish me with the answer....? All I see is 3x400x2... what was not clear is whether the 4 min was the rep recovery or the rest between each set...
I love the bio-mechanics. For everyone who has been told to change your stride, move your hips forward, swing your arms differently, etc. Crap! God made you the way you are, and you grow up doing your best. If you want to run like Claudia, get a bigger heart, live your life with more spirit, learn to love what you do and what you are. Sometimes I think she's part Briggs & Stratton. She just keeps on running and running!
mikemather5 lol it’s not crap actually it’s called having good form and the elite athletes all have that one thing in common pretty much bc when you’re in a race good form helps out a lot. Little tweaks that people talk about can actually make a big difference and if you have horrible form you’re more likely to have muscle imbalances later on from it so better just learn it while you can
It’s not that they’re criticizing her for the way she runs, it is that the way in which she runs (heel strike, pounding the ground rather than grazing it) is often associated with injury risk and is much less efficient than proper running form. Not that she isn’t a great runner, but she will probably have to be taught how to run efficiently when she goes to college gets a coach that wants to tap into her potential.
As a Soph/Junior in a D4 school with a teacher as a coach, I honestly think working on bio-mechanics could do as much harm as good. Bottom line, she's faster than anyone else, even with the errors everyone is talking about. Tough is the key word this coming year. Southern Section Championship, State meet, FootLocker West Meet, a few even include the NXN trip to Portland, and then FootLocker Nats. Almost everyone from California falters in the end just because there's no week off before Balboa Park. She wants that 16:39 course record. She'll get it with hard workouts and alternating rest periods between big meets. All of the rest she can learn at Oregon!
Unbelievable how this girl breezed through the Cross Country Nationals like it was just a jog in the park. I wonder how this runner would do against the East Africans? I think she could hang.
6-10 miles is ideal for a long run at a comfortable pace, I've been running for a long time so anything more than 10 is basically not needed unless you're training for a marathon or half marathon.
Sorry this is a weird question but I’m not from the us so I always get confused when they say stuff like “pace at 72”, does that mean 72 seconds for a lap?
*Claudia is a FABULOUS runner she’s a beautiful girl and has a fantastic personality she’s a great runner and I hope she runs for as long as she can i feel like her and Grace Ping Should be in a race together if u don’t know who she is then watch this **ua-cam.com/video/TTo8HJfrY80/v-deo.html*
Terrible form. How can her coach allow her to continue to run hard in this heavy awkward way. I guarantee she will have some bad injurys . Listen to her footsteps and looks at her arms
She hits the ground hard. I'm aching just hearing the sound.
exactly im like like cringing from the sound
Jessica Adair that’s probably why she’s been injured so much😬
You guys can run 16:50s?
But she could kick your butt with her eyes closed
Claudia is amazing... and yeah, she has an interesting running style (as so many seemingly know better here... hmmmm)... but mechanics aside... this girl can run and she has heart. Something so few have. I believe she'll smooth out her form in time. She is someone to watch... that's for sure!
And now because of that poor form, she appears to be done. What a shame...
bros
she gonna be a legend
I saw her run at an invitational meet last year 2016 at Lake Casitas and my Lord she's fast in XC
CloroxBleach SAME! Fucking blew me away
Malibu High is actually right next to the Pacific Ocean, such a beautiful view while you work out. The other "just up the road" high school is Newbury Park High School! So, what's the secret? The water, the clean air, it has to be something!!
Since when did everyone suddenly become running experts in the comment section 😂
After about 50,000 miles.
Christian Estrada HAHA
Her form obviously needs improvement. She had awesome turnover but her arm swing and pounding waste a ton of energy and arguably are the cause of her injuries.
I mean most of the people in this comment section have been running for years, probably with coaches who tell them not to run like her.
The woman’s half marathon world record holder has ‘terrible’ form. These comments are just salty dudes slower than her.
I came here to read all the expert youtube runners comments.
Why's everyone critiquing her lol she's AMAZING as she is. I've never clicked a video as fast as I did for this one.
Hey Jenna, can't believe I saw your comment on here lololol
(its brandon)
Brandodan I HATE YOU SO MUCH LMAO BRANDOOOON
LOLOLOLOLOLOOLOOLOLOL
Wolf There's no problem with it.
We need a workout Wednesday of Alex Maier

From what Ive read about her she has a good head on her shoulders and is not only focused on running. If she doesn't get burnt out she'll be one to watch in college and beyond.
BigToeify trust me she is a talent freak and does not go all out every day
Bolt Clan Lane is very fast and has great natural speed and breathing capabilities. But she does not have more top end natural speed than New Yorker Katelyn Tuohy. Let's get Claudia, Brie and Katelyn on the same track!
Excellent cross country runner!!! She's new at the sport, but she is obviously gifted!!! Future olympian!!! Keep up the training and good work!!!
she seems so heavy on her feet
Josee Pearlson or at least on her heels
Josee Pearlson she looks like she is limping almost
She's doing these intervals in clunky trainers too.. Mizuno Inspire. It's a tough shoe to be light on your feet with and they always sound like you're clomping around like a horse.
@@axelarroyo3286 Hey those are my favorite running shoes, I have run some of my best mile times in them.

Wow the first mention of CA from Milesplit
RylanXC143 ikr
You can tell she works hard. Just an amazing runner. Congrats!
The way she runs pisses me off.... but she's a fantastic runner
jakob sayers ik right
oh snap
It's her arm movement that gives her style a funny look.
Ik she slaps her feet and the whole movement looks awkward
who cares how she runs it works for her and she wins.
This is a great great channel!
She runs like she has a limp but still so incredibly fast. Genetics and pure talent...
She dominates our County races every year😂
Congrats Claudia on your CIF State Championship in the 3200. Look forward to seeing you run a record time at the Brooks PR in 2 weeks.
Andy L but brie did so
It's easy to be cynical and predict someone's "wall". Why not just wish the best for Claudia
Erykah Watson Claudia just started running her freshman year
keep it up, claudia👏
She runs a bit awkward needs to be on her toes a bit more and loosen her arms let her stride come to her bring her foot up and out. Also when she stops needs to not stop so sudden but I'm not a coach so ;(

How weird did I run? Both my left arm and leg forward, right arm and leg back, repeat. They can only see it when they filmed it.
BJ Martin it's literally about efficiency in running and who are you dominating ?
I wasn't running track but every school I went to, there was only one skinny track kid that beat me. And he had to practice his butt off. I was known not to practice, eat a pizza, hot dog and bet money, until I was told on, lol.
If you've seen her compete, all the girls have long strides while hers is choppy, high cadence.
Just because it looks weird, it doesnt mean it isnt efficient. She has a high cadence stride but she's moving straight so
Hey! I made it in district for the 2400M run (6 laps, mile 1/2) and the meet is next Thursday,I'm really nervous and this really helped me calm down a little.
Wow those first four laps average out to be a 4:42 mile well done Claudia !
Good luck Claudia 😃😀
I ran 4:27 mile in college, and yeah she's got an amazing turnover rate! Mechanically she's a foot flopper, but obviously it's working!
micajah nordyke how does your mile time apply to her??🤩
She really is a legend
Heavy on her feet with lots of mechanical imbalances. Her career will be injury-riddled if she doesn't address that. It's really astounding how fast she is in spite of that though.
You said it dead on
The proof is on her achievements not her style stop the hating and admire her accomplishments
Nobody's hating that's called constructive criticism
Right lol since when did everyone suddenly become running experts. The girl has done more than fine running the way she does, leave her alone 😂
Dave Stuchbery say what you like, but that form caused her to get injured. Even she said herself, she wants to be more bouncy and strike the ground with less force to prevent injury
I do 400 in 80 something seconds she’s doing it in 72 and that’s her 2 mile pace😱
Love to watch her run. She seems to enjoy herself. She puts her whole heart into the race. May God bless her and give her good health. Reach for the heavens Claudia for that is where God dwells. Sending love and prayers for you, in the name of Jesus Christ.
what a great coach =)
Interesting running form / style
That form is so ugly but she is amazing so I'm gonna stop talking
AWESOME
What was the rest between reps?
if she improved her foot strike she'd be more efficient. she's landing too much and too hard on her heels
her arms also cross her midline a lot
iRosati you may never know, it may just be her most efficient way of running
She would really appreciate your advice. Shes probably a lot fucking better than you so STFU
I feel like she would look so much better if she had better posture in general, she is so hunched over when she runs and when she's not running
They're so many great distance runners in CIF southern section and mile split just ignores them
Um a lot of good runners come from nor cal too
Kole Petty she is from southern section CIF
You all need to chill she’s ver distance oriented and response better to that and so as soon as she does any speed work it’s hard but she’s at the point we’re she can’t get much faster so it’s time to introduce speed. She’s absolutely insane.
they should do a great oak workout wednesday
she stomps her feet though, but she's still good asf😂
In xc for 3200 meter training we do 8 400m
her running style probably shows an underlying skeletal imbalance, like different leg lengths or hips.
You can't really "dial-in" a pace. It's something that comes with experience and training.
didnt she have some sort of stress reaction or something this spring, and could that be the result of the way she runs?
How does she break 10:00 off only 40 miles a week? There are very few HS boys who can even break 10 min off such low mileage. Where does she get the aerobic strength to do something so amazing?
davis fillborne talent *drops bomb*
davis fillborne eh I did 45 to get 9:45 last year, I know some people that do shitloads of tempo and hills to get upper 9s
davis fillborne those people only get in 30 or so miles
Davis thats wrong...I ran in the low mileage era (early 90s). We had a bunch of guys in track in league running right around 10:00 on 30 mpw. They were running 4:30 for the 1600 so you can see the cardio was definitely holding them back from what they should have been at (9:30).
Tart Lemonz I run just under 10 off of 20-25 miles a week lol. I’m 14 btw. I’ll be doing way more for my sophomore year tho
Her and Brie Oakley have the same running style.
Sarah Baxter was a heel striker as well if you look back on her form I heard that although it may be a faster way to run it's a way easier way to get injured from it
BUZZKILL1250 it's not faster
BUZZKILL1250 Aye, Sarah's the legendary alumni at my school👏
Midfoot is the best foot strike and heel striking does cause knee problems.
It's just easy to get into heel striking as a cross country runner and hard to make the switch into running on the track, it takes a little while
She stomps when she runs holy shit
Anyone know the name of the song?
lol shes really great but she needs to run a bit more ln her toes. I hear her feet stomping. But still great. Just trying to make her even better‼️❤️
Song?
where is cooper's workout wednesday?????
Beatrice Levy now there's a question
What’s wrong with her back?
The comments are abhorent. This girl runs with a specific gait and form which is specific to her.If you watch many female long distance runners-many run with a weird form but still win.Paula radcliffe runs weird but she has broken many world records
Anyone know what the recovery was between reps.... I'm assuming the set recovery was 4 min....
Simon Murray u dumb?
Rather than being insulting perhaps you could furnish me with the answer....?
All I see is 3x400x2... what was not clear is whether the 4 min was the rep recovery or the rest between each set...
She's really fast, but her form needs work and she is quite heavy on her feet

mikemather5 she's injured. she got a stress reaction beacsue of heel striking = bad form and she hasn't really came back just yet. change your mind?
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼💖
Unbelievable how this girl breezed through the Cross Country Nationals like it was just a jog in the park. I wonder how this runner would do against the East Africans? I think she could hang.
I mean Claudia is great but seeing her on track meet is that her form is not that great
Nicely made girl.Very pretty.
Her long runs are only 8-9 miles? That's so short!
davis fillborne ikr me over here watching people do 16 miles of long runs
6-10 miles is ideal for a long run at a comfortable pace, I've been running for a long time so anything more than 10 is basically not needed unless you're training for a marathon or half marathon.
She starts with the same leg and arm in the front...what are her coaches doing 😂😂😂
Her running style is also a speed walker’s style...it’s actually annoying
Sorry this is a weird question but I’m not from the us so I always get confused when they say stuff like “pace at 72”, does that mean 72 seconds for a lap?
mvah07 no.duhhhh
@everyone critiquing her form: go run these times and then come back and talk
I believe she can do better
Lol I run like 20 miles a week and I run a 10 minute 2 mile

She’s dummy hot
42 miles a week?!!! That's nothing.
Terrible form. How can her coach allow her to continue to run hard in this heavy awkward way. I guarantee she will have some bad injurys . Listen to her footsteps and looks at her arms
oof form
She runs way to heavy
The music is annoying as hell.
She runs so weird it's kinda annoying
I hope her coach doesn't fall in love with her. I mean, we now know what happened with the U.S.A. girls gymnastic team.
