Strange Forest Encounter!

- Just SW of Ely, Nevada, Linda and I were following an ancient Native American Indian trail to see where it might lead to. We love to look for Indian habitation sites, arrowheads, petroglyphs and other interesting signs of history and we were doing so in a thick pinion pine and cedar forest. We were having a great hike when a man seemed to spot us and stopped his truck, got out and entered the woods, coming in our direction. Now if you follow this channel you know that both of us are always armed for self defense, but what's the best course of action for anyone who carries? Check out the video.

Getting out on the road is what Linda and I love to do with our converted cargo trailer camper. We're part time nomads and the nomadic lifestyle suits us to a Tee. Whether your RV is a camper van, camp trailer, travel trailer, motorhome or just a car and a tent, there's going to be something interesting for you in the videos we produce. Back roads and overlanding are part of what we do while exploring the western states for beautiful, peaceful and sometimes remote places to camp on BLM and National Forest land (public land). Taking care of ourselves as much as possible and doing our own repairs is a must because we travel on a fixed income and a limited budget. If your into being off-grid and boondocking, or doing dispersed camping whenever possible then you'll appreciate the discussions on batteries, solar panels and solar chargers or power stations and 12v refrigeration. Come on along, we're happy to have your company!

As a person that wears glasses that have a rather large surface area, I can relate to the "WTH, directly in my line of sight?" spot. Linda is so funny. "Oh it's you!" looking over as she puts her glasses on. Classic.
I chuckled at that too!
I'm glad you two are trusting your "spidey" sense. Packing iron is a good idea anywhere you go these day. You never know what type of "flakes" you might encounter in the wilderness.
Happy trails!
Ĺĺ
That's true you never know..... But 99.9%of us out there are good decent people. But it only takes one bad guy.... Stay safe. stay loaded
Always pay attention to that “ feeling “ ! Stay safe !
Will do, Denise. Thanks for watching. ~~Linda
I've always said, your head or heart may lead you astray, but you can always trust that gut instinct. I think it may be God's will.
I like seeing Linda getting more comfortable being on camera and expressing herself.
Me too, Tom! Thanks.
Tom that was the comment l was going to make. I taught and helped young and not so young folks in my career. I'm attuned to those kind of changes. Linda you were initially very shy and reserved at first. All this traveling and video exposure has really grown on you well. You've blossomed. That's great as it adds lots to the experience of watching especially when you have so much to contributed...and it sure doesn't hurt that you're so darn cute. 😘
Ok Rick thanks for sharing your girl friend with us!!! 👍
She has gotten over a 1,000 views. I think she's doing pretty good, with so many eyes on her... ha... She is too cute!
Good video! My wife and I hiked and camped a lot when we lived in Montana. We had a couple of those uneasy experiences and quickly left the area. Always trust your instinct.
That's a great tip, Daniel.
I wish all the youtubers we follow had the audio quality of your channel.-Rick your voice has that narrative quality that works well for the channel
He would be wonderful reading audio books!!
Audible give him a call
Aw shucks, thank you.
Always trust your gut instincts. You may have just dodged a bullet there, friend. Be safe and thank you for sharing your adventure(s) with the rest of us.
I would’ve done the same if I was out in the wilds and a stranger came by ! My husband and I use to Coyote camp and we were migrant workers too so we had a 24 ft trailer or camper trailer as most people call it ! I called it a trailer house ! Loved the freedom and beauty of what ever place we were in! We have been to Montana to pick cherries 🍒 for a very nice family ! Met some really nice people we worked with of all ethnic groups ! Just hard working people making a living and raising their children ! Love and Blessing to each and everyone of you wherever you are on this Beautiful Planet 🌎🌍🌏. 🎄🍀🕊👵🏻😺🐶🖖👽 from Arizona with ❤️ love and Blessings 😇 good wishes to all and happy holidays and a wonderful Blessed NewYear !
I just today found your channel. How delightful and interesting to bring us along on your adventures! Thank you!
Of course you have been warned, by many - often and repeatedly - to NEVER separate from one another while out walking and exploring.
Not even for “only a little while.”
Keeping your partner in your line of sight will certainly help avoid. - as well as prevent - any potential tragedy.
Call me an Alarmist, but far too many souls have been literally vanishing from the face of the Earth, literally. The few that are eventually found have no idea where they have been during the time they were missing.
It’s a true mystery, for sure! Thank goodness that both of you already likely carry a PLD (personal locator device), a few flares in the bottom of your backpacks and a whistle.
I have lots of hobbys, but I love nothing more than hiking through washes and canyons. The deserts are so alive. To say nothing of the starry nights! Its been a few years since we've been out there, but yeah, there is nothing like the smell of the desert. Love your channel, this is great for us boomer's with so much relevant info.
Thank you for the clothing tips from both Linda and Rick and why you wear them. Also I agree - follow your gut! Out of sight out of mind. Keep em coming - love your videos and topics of conversation. God bless and stay safe. Happy hiking! 🙏⛺️
Living the dream guys , a big gday from western Australia 🇦🇺 👍
You guys are breath of fresh air. I'm having fun watching going on your hike.
It was a pleasure walking along with you two I had a lot of fun exploring the desert thank you for taking me along on your hike .
Nice to have you along, Jamie!
I had to retire about 8 years ago when a cancer attacked, mostly my backbone, now I am considered 100% handicapped.
I can still walk slowly and short distances with the aid of a cane and pain management help. I enjoy your videos because it's the only way I can get out anymore. So thanks for taking me along! Mostly stuck in the house in a recliner to get the weight off my back.
Glad you are able to come along with us, James. I'm sorry you have to suffer such pain, I'm glad we're able to help you "get out". ~~Linda
Love your style of exploring and your visions of the natural environment you are in. The places you go are exciting. Thank you!
Glad you like them! Thank you for watching.
I think it is wise to follow your instinct telling you to be suspicious of people. Better to be safe than sorry! I am a new subscriber to your channel, and glad this video sparked my curiousity! I am in my late 60's and love to go hiking, and exploring when I can!
Loved this! Great job Linda finding that Clovis! Awesome! This is exactly what I like to do when I camp, explore my surroundings on foot. Look for artifacts, see the scenery, smell the fragrance.
Thanks, Susan, that broken piece was just laying on the ground! I was amazed. ~~Linda
love that the two of you go places together and just enjoy life, take care and be safe.
You be safe up there in Alaska! Thank you for watching.
Excellent ending advice for youngsters. Put down the phone and get outside and play! Enjoyed your hike.
Thanks for coming along, Jeff. Hope you join us on the next one.
Another interesting video! I love Linda’s dry sense of humor. You all are such an interesting couple! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
We did, thank you Mia.
Not a bit boring. Both of you have an easy relaxed way of expressing yourselves and I enjoy the scenery and hearing and seeing what you discover along the way.
Glad you enjoyed it, Cynthia and thank you.
That weird feeling is no small thing. It is your sixth sense. Do not ever ignore it!!! Always pay attention to it! It will save your life, and probably just did!! My wife and i travel and camp. I am never without protection of several kinds. A fire arm, a very well concealed knife and a pair of knuckles. I also carry a professional mouth piece. It will keep you from getting a concussion during a hand to hand encounter. But the way, I’m 69 years old, but i refuse to be an easy target.
Your video just popped up as a recommended to watch. We were not disappointed! We too love to travel and explore. Watching your video has inspired us to get out again. Thank you so much. We have subscribed and will enjoy watching you two with our morning coffee. Happy trails. Jenn & Brad
Thank you for subbing, Jenn and Brad! I'm having my morning coffee now, well, it's getting closer to noon but we'll ignore that. Hope you enjoy our videos, we appreciate you subscribing. ~~Linda
I enjoy the views. I’m too old to travel but love history and ghost towns.
We love history and ghost towns too. You appreciate those when you get older and wiser. Thanks for watching our videos, Bill.
It was nice to come across this video. There is much to be said for these off-the-beaten-track places. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Thanks for watching, Rocky. Hit the notification bell icon and you'll get notified when our next video is up. Those off the beaten track places is where we love to explore.
New subscriber here. Your video popped up out of nowhere! I am so glad it did. I used to explore all the time until I couldn't. Be safe and be careful and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and many more great adventures in 2022 !! 💕
Another great interesting video...thanks for taking us along ...I for one enjoyed it 😊
God Bless you Rick and your wife for being good honest responsibly armed Americans
This is soo peaceful. You guys are inspiring me.
That's the reason we go, to be off where it's peaceful like that.
Very much enjoy seeing Linda sharing with us as well! You two are a joy to watch; my husband and I aspire to be like you guys when we begin our cross country travels! Be safe!
Thanks, Caryn, wishing you the best on your future travels!
Thanks nice seeing the area again
Bu the way, i love your channel. It just popped up on my UA-cam browsing. Love your video!!!
Thank you, Sky King! We have lots more videos on our channel, hope you get to enjoy them all.
Neat video! Right now it's hunting season and the guy was probably looking for tracks. It does smell very nice, especially after a rain.
I like the ambient atmosphere of the place in this video and the softly spoken explanation.😀👍👍
Love your exploration videos! Thanks for sharing !
Wow witnessing this video, where you took your time to get your energy up and you are older than I, I found quite inspiring I have subscribed to your channel, will start watching the video log, thank you for the adventure!
Thank you for subscribing, Stoic! Our channel covers a lot of ground because it's a vlog about whatever happens to be on our mind.
Hi Rick and Linda. Your living the dream. Wide open, spaces! I have seen those suspender- carhart's. They take the burs and chigger's, pretty good. A good way, not to get bugs and ticks, going up your pant leg, is to take a small bungee cord and wrap it around the bottom of your pant leg. God Bless. Love your channel.
Thanks for the tip, Paula!
@@gonagain Your welcome.
Another great video. Thanks
I could almost smell those trees , we always get a few Juniper branches with the berry's for Christmas decorating and burn a little to smell the house up !! Great video as always . 👍
Thanks Darell!
I really enjoyed this video as always! Thank you for sharing! Safe travels! 👍🤗🤗
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching, Traveling Granny, see you on the next one!
Very nice video, Rick and Linda! You two are a great team! It’s best to trust that gut feeling… better safe than sorry…. Enjoyed your following that trail of flakes and proposing different theories as to what was going on there so long ago…I do hope that one of these days, I get a chance to tell you guys in person how much I enjoy your channel!
That will be nice Terri and we look forward to it. Hopefully we will make our usual trip to AZ after Christmas sometime and later in the summer we like to head to Nevada, in case you are out on the road.
There certainly is a lot in that five feet! Lot of grace, lot of humour, lot of integrity. Carry on!!!
Yes, I think she's amazing too!
Found you two not long ago and really enjoying the adventures. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic idea with the stick !!! Love your videos!
Thank you, Denise! See you on the next one! ~~Linda
Good to see U 2 I was wondering as I have not seen any of your videos up till today .
Flint knapping is an interesting subject, always interested me.
Back in the day it was an everyday kinda thing to do to survive .
Take care , Thanks for sharing.
Just come across your show.love it! Very interesting
Scenery is breathtaking.
Good evening to you wherever you may be. I like your channel for a few reasons. Ok, to be honest, I have only watched a few videos so far. But I am a LOVER of the Great Basin and the topography I see in your travels through Nevada. I like that you don't try to entertain us with music. So many others do and it ruins the experience for me. Another thing I like is the low-key attitude you both display. I like that you don't get upset and cuss spit and holler. In the last video I just watched, you even try to convey the aroma of the Pinyon Pine Juniper forest. That is the most pleasant smell I have ever known. I also like that you are heavy on product endorsements. I have a deep love for the pinyon/juniper woodlands of Nevada, and you allowed me to be there with you without being there. I return to the GB myself next April to live out the remainder of however long of a life God allows me to live. So, thatnk you, happy trails, stay safe and God bless.
NOT heavy on product endoresments.
Thank you for watching our videos. I hope that God gives you many more years in the Great Basin, we love that area.
Another great watch guys👍Always enjoy watching you two enjoying the exploration of life. Thanks for sharing as always!
Thanks for watching, Sean!
My dad wears long sleeves ( even in the summer )....hats ... he has never worn shorts ...we grew up on a farm ...the sun 🌞 eats the skin up ...
Good show, thank you had fun!😏
As always, I enjoyed this video. It is well documented that the Great Basin held water and tribes lived in the edges of the lake. The petroglyphs in Fallon, Nevada have much more information, but I believe the dating shows occupancy 10,000 years ago. How wonderful to see an actual point. I respect you for returning it to the earth where you found it.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the added info. It was pretty exciting to find that broken point and imagine who lost it, and how. ~~Linda
@@gonagain
Linda, I'm a 1st time viewer.. and was wondering... what tribe are you?
You guys look great in your outfits! Perfect tick protection! Lyme disease is awful 😞perfect protection!
I have learned to pay attention to those weird feelings. You were probably smart to stay clear of him
Fun video. Loved the fashion show!😀
Thanks!
Another wonderful video 👏🏼 Thank You‼️😃❤️
Another great vid from the desert fashion King and Queen
Ha ha! I like that.
WOW! A Clovis point! What a beautiful life you guys lead! I love it! I know. It is work. I've done it! But a very worthy way of life!🏕🏜🏞❤🙏🏼
Yes it is and we can't wait to head back south again after Christmas.
I like the comradery you and Linda have as it makes for a more interesting watch besides the great adventures.
Thank you, Joan! ~~Linda
Good advice! Thanks! Keep these adventures going👍
More to come! Thanks for watching, Trevin.
I loved this video!
Linda always finds the coolest things.
She likes rocks! Shirley, have you ever watched the old movie, "Long, Long Trailer", with Lucille Ball? That would be my Linda.
Good to see you out and about.
I greatly enjoyed this episode.
Thank you, Seymour. Catch you on the next one!
Great video, always packed with useful information. Again, thanks for posting your videos and God Bless!
Thanks, Ron!
Thanks for the fun video. Observation is the best teacher.
This video reminds me of a place my son took us above the valley floor west of hwy 14 in Southern California. We hiked up the drainage to discover a site where lots of flakes were across the area. We even discovered a large boulder that had an area where it was ground smooth, indicating it was used as a surface to grind vegation for food. Being high above the valley floor had great views.
They liked property with a view just as much as we do! We sure enjoy exploring and discovering evidence of those who lived there long before us.
Since it's heading to winter, here's a book recommendation: The Lost Universe by Gene Weltfish. It's a study of Pawnee life in the late 1800s. One of my favorite books and you may find it interesting.
I'll look for it, Teri. Thanks for the recommendation. ~~Linda
Hi there,,,,,I am a new subbie from Sydney and have a bit to catch up on but do enjoy your shows.....
Please tell me do you ever wonder about people going missing out in the parks etc,,,,, The Missing 411 ????
Thank you...
Hi Chris! Is that Sydney, Australia? We have a Sidney in Montana. And it's easy to get disoriented and lost in that kind of terrain you're talking about and just as hard to find someone.
Not boring in the least... I thoroughly enjoyed following you guys as you sorted through what may have occurred along that trail over the years. 👍👍
Thanks for that! See you on the next one!
I would of headed back too, your right it's better to be safe than sorry and better to follow that first instinct too!
Awesome video ! Like this exploring new distant places ! Great ! Keep going guys !
Thanks Anders, we will!
I can tell you have a story. I could be wrong, but I get this feeling you have been through so many experiences in life. To get you to where you are, in your life today, if that makes sense. These are good feelings I get. Not Judging feelings. But many experiences...of lifes journey. I like the fact of when you and your wife said being alone. There is allot to that, and I think I understand what you really mean by that. It is so good to find the right people in a person's life, to surround themselves with people that are good. Either way life is a journey, and never was meant to be a life of unnecessary stress and full of conflicts. Also I see you are very opened minded, which is a good thing. Enjoy your journey. Bless you.
Thank you for your kind words, Joseph, appreciate it very much.
Good morning 🔆,thanks for sharing 😊☕☕☕💕
Thank you too!
What an interesting and lovely couple! Best wishes and safe travels 🌲
Always enjoyable and informative. I'm ready to explore Nevada, so much more to see than I ever imagined.
It's kind of overwhelming at first because you might not know where to begin, but it's 97% public land and you just need to pick a dirt road and go explore.
You guys are perfectly matched. Linda did forget to mention right before the "did I forget anything?" question the actual reason for her light weight fleeced hoody. It is an essential piece of her outfit when it is time to go primal as the hatchet comes out. I had to pause the video earlier as my Medtronic biventricular device in my chest was sounding off with a hi/lo tone similar to a European police car. A trip to the ER and a return call back from Medtronic the hospital assured me I had 3 months left on my battery life. So it'll be time fairly soon to get a new Energizer installed. The value I get out of your adventures (and misadventures) are beyond priceless. Continue with your trips for as long as you can, just be sure to bring us along for the ride.
Thank you, Ernest and keep that battery up to date!!!
@@gonagain No problem there. Now, even after being checked out at the ER and told what the deal was, the wife insists that I don't do anything like I normally would do until my actual previously scheduled pacer appointment n Tuesday. I am not one for just sitting around.
Great to be out there with someone who shares the same fascination for exploring!
Thanks, Kathryn.
LOL ...essential tool...well said Linda .You guys are great and always a pleasure
Hello Cold Spring! Happy Thanksgiving!
You go team… I’ll set here drinking my coffee!
Mmmmm....coffee! Thanks for the encouragement, Linda!
Great tips and advice on mountain fashion wear!
Yeah, we be stylin'.
You done the right thing, one needs to be safe for many cannot be trusted nowadays, so keep wise, instinct is always correct :) Nice video and take care :) Love from England.
Thank you for watching, Ruby! Aloha from Montana!
You two are too adorable!!! Love your adventures and lessons. See you around!
Thank you, Cherish!
I liked the way you put the arrowhead back where u found it.
Loved hearing about your choice of clothing. Nice to hear more from Linda and get a little hint of her personality. Your videos are very informative.
Thanks for the very interesting hiking video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the exploration!
Our pleasure, Glen!
Love Great Basin very peaceful 💖 one of the last trips I took with my husband before he passed.
Thanks, my Dad was a fireman in Warren Pennsylva, I guess you would call him a snow Bird, anyway,go to Pennsylvania, and Loved Arizona, explored everything ❤️🇺🇸 Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 It's almost Christmas 🎄 and a Happy New Year 🥳
Thank you, Kenneth! Hope you have a Merry Christmas too, and a great New Year!
Another great adventure video. I've got junipers and pinion pines on my property but haven't enjoyed the smells yet. I live in the upper desert in AZ and finding shard's. I still haven't found that arrow head I found then miss placed. I love holding the shard's and day dream of what these people were doing at that moment the shard was cracked? TTFN
Hi Troy, that's exactly what I do when I find a piece of something---imagine how it got dropped or left behind, who was it and what that person might have looked like. Sounds like you have a beautiful place to enjoy. ~~Linda
Looks like a great place to explore.
Oh yeah! We're going back to follow that trail higher.
The point you found is called a Humboldt very old but not near as old as Clovis which would have a fluted channel at the base! Love to watch you two enjoy nature!
Hello Rick, I agree it's a Humboldt. Thank you!
I live in Kansas. I would challenge anyone to find a single acre of this state that hasn't been plowed under or trampled by cattle. The thought that you can still find, right on the surface, the flakes from someone working a projectile point ten, eleven even twelve thousand years ago just blows my mind. I love the high desert. Haven't been to Vegas since like 2001. 😟
We love Nevada, but we drive around Vegas and head for the little out of the way places. I'd say its time for you to visit again!
Between 1964 and 1972 my family and I spent every summer doing what you are doing, walking and enjoying the desert. All our arrowheads, of which we came across, and there were thousands, were made of obsidian. By the way...I am 67 years now.
What great summers you must have had. That's what we like to do when we're out exploring. Thanks for sharing your story, Dusty.
My husband and I would so love to travel, one day. I am sure you see some magnificent places. I could find glorious peace within the trees.
Dorethea, I sincerely hope you two break away and go explore to your hearts content. Just go.
I like going with Earth tones on my clothing for the natural camo and cool look. Loved the video and enjoy everything you do.
Thanks Larry. Yes, the only time I like to stand out is during hunting season.
Another fun, interesting video. The Clovis point is an amazing find. I have participated in digs on Paleo sites here in CT. Thanks!
Very cool
You sure found a nice lady to share all your explorations. She has an infectious laugh. I found one, too. We are wealthy men.
Yes we are!
