Awesome video! We had a great year for morels here in central Ohio. Found over 600 in our woods. I always try to be conscious of trees to look for, may apples, etc. But the last few years there hasn't seemed to be any rhyme or reason! I pretty much just take a stroll through the woods and pick em up left and right.
I guess if your in need of a bag.a pre pubescent child's undefwear Can't hurt anything you have to soak the bugs out of before eating. Cute story, thanks for sharing..though I see I'm a year late.
I do not doubt that, you did whatever it took. Back then, those shrooms help tide them over through Spring, as food was often scarce. You didn’t leave it in the field or woods then. I have taken off my jacket and put them in it, he could’ve taken off his T-shirt and used it, tied the end together and make a tote of sorts. (He still had his coat to keep him covered). I always took extra bags after this happened to me once. They got plenty and was satisfied, though.
Yesterday I was out and here in NEPA,they are MISERABLE!!!! Was not shrooming yet (metal detecting)..Even in 6inches of snow them ticks are terrible..Why???

I havent found any yet but this video really helps me with tree Identification. Almost time to start looking now! If I ever find a jackpot like you found I would have picked them all and dehydrated the ones I couldnt eat right away.
Trevor Mandra hey man don't dehydrate them, put them in water and bags like Ziplocs the freezer time and freeze them after you cut them up and they'll keep a lot better. This is the best way I found to keep them.
Not sure where you are hunting but in Northern Arkansas / Southern Missouri some of my best locations have been among small tulip poplar saplings and small cedar trees. I honestly seem to find more in the sapling areas. Don't get me wrong there are a few large older trees that produce but one of my favorite spots has few trees over 6" in diameter.
Iam in SW Missouri, I checked my fav spots last week,no luck nights are not 50 as of yet maybe later this week they should be popping blacks and greys first

I find 90% of morels around sycamore trees, still sometimes find them by elms and Ash, my grandma has an apple orchard that's about 20 acres, it's only about 20 years old though so haven't found any there yet
I used to work with a couple of guys that hunted these each year. They said eating them was better then a steak dinner. I’ve never had them, guess i should sometime.

I am yet to find my first model but this certainly motivated me haha! Just moved to northeast Illinois and I dont think they grow much here hoping I am wrong though. Knowing Mycology I look at the State ground temperature map. After two weeks of 50° ground temp the primordia has set. The mycelium is active in the ground and gets ready to bloom when conditions are good. IE. Rain, moisture, temp. It is a sure fire way to know when to hunt. Taking the base will not affect the mycelium of the mushroom or future development. It was only wasted material. It will merely self destruct.
After reading hundreds of comments from various mushroom related youtube videos, I can safely say that your scientific facts will be ignored :-) You know and I know that picking a mushroom with whatever method you favor will in no way, shape, or form damage the miles of underground mycelium. You know and I know that billions of spores have already been released to the air by the time you pick the mushroom and "tapping" them or dancing in circles while carrying them in a mesh bag will do absolutely nothing to disperse the spores. Regardless...you will see the same comments in EVERY mushroom video. Science? That's for nerds! :-)
@@michaelb2999 In fact the morel is not a mushroom at all. It is an imitator, no gills, and a member of the yeast family. Closely related to the truffle.

@@tomipaige5328 my husband tells story of going poo as child in woods on poison sumac. You can imagine the places the poison touched and the agony he still speaks of 40 years later.
People can suddenly become allergic to poison ivy, even after decades of no reaction. Also, getting the poison ivy oils on a mushroom can spread the oils on the bags or baskets and to other objects. And, it can expose anyone who is around to the vaporized oils when they are cooked. They can breathe it in and get swelling in their throat or lungs. Just need to be aware and careful.
Thanks for the great video. Elms do indeed produce, but most were wiped out here (Chicagoland) long ago. Chinese Elm is actually worth checking. My brother had a mature Chinese Elm removed from his yard and the following spring he had numerous Morels!

people don't know what they are missing out on not having morels.... and spring ramps. when you mentioned ramps while you were getting ready to cook them I got pumped up. Ramps are incredible too!!!!
John thanks for the extra advise in video. wife and I went back out after work, found 3 beautiful morels. Western NY morels.
Thanks!
Awesome, used to have a great place in VA! Love hunting them as much as sang!
Love every minute of it would love to see what Danielle does with the sauce don't be shy sweetheart this is great content keep up the good work both of you good work. 👍
Awesome video! I like his excitement discovery the morel mushrooms. Love the diversity of mushrooms, specifically the morel kind.
They grow a lot on my family ranch in texas national geographic has come out to take samples and its really neat why they grow there in kopprel texas
Do you pick them?
Awesome video! We had a great year for morels here in central Ohio. Found over 600 in our woods. I always try to be conscious of trees to look for, may apples, etc. But the last few years there hasn't seemed to be any rhyme or reason! I pretty much just take a stroll through the woods and pick em up left and right.
When my Grandma was a little girl, she found a bunch and took off her bloomers, knotted the legs, and carried them home that way.
Usually gives them a strong seafood taste using that method.
Thank you for the great video of morals, there is nothing any better in my opinion then fresh morals.
Might be good to mention Ticks as I always end up with ticks shroom hunting, Great Video, Thank You.
Yesterday I was out and here in NEPA,they are MISERABLE!!!! Was not shrooming yet (metal detecting)..Even in 6inches of snow them ticks are terrible..Why???
Going out on Saturday here in Maryland. I found a lot last year only looking at tulips. Never knew how to identify elms, so I'm looking forward to using the seed pod ID tip.
Thank you Morels for your sacrifice. 😁
I've never looked for these before but a family friend gave us some the other day and they were so good I'm going to go through the woods today and take a look and see what's around! These are some beauty's
Wow what a jack pot! I have been looking here in Northeast Pennsylvania for a few years I just have a problem finding where the trees are.
I used to find them when I was turkey hunting. Dead elm trees were the best spots to find them. Washed, then fried in bacon grease...... awesome!
I'm up in the boot heel area on Crowley ridge. Any suggestion on mushroom hunting in this area
Iam in SW Missouri, I checked my fav spots last week,no luck nights are not 50 as of yet maybe later this week they should be popping blacks and greys first
Pleasure to meet you Pammy, I have a house in Lanagan and property outside of Anderson. Thank you for the report, I work on the road and was planning on coming home for Easter. My best indicator is when Asparagus starts coming out of the ground and after a decent rain.
Great video! Thanks for the tree info. I just started finding them while metal detecting. What a thrill! It's been over 40 years since my last taste, so leaving the metal detector home tomorrow! Skillet in the ready position!
Had my detector out yesterday and got many ticks...NEPA
Hoping to find some this week, though it's early. Thanks for the video :-)
By far the best morel video on UA-cam! !
Caton Domke.
Let me just say....I literally look up to u all....I've been a hunter and fisherman since i was really young and I watch u guys everyday....I called Adam about getting a pole but he didn't answer...I would love to meet you guys...I'm in Armstrong county.....you guys are all great hunters....I can't stop watching that video where Shane killed that 10 point with the kicker with his recurve....I love how worked up he got😂😂....but ya I just wanted to say that...and I'm a huge fan and have been for a long time and I would love to get a rod from Adam and I don't even care if it's expensive I will save my money....and don't think I'm that crazy obsessed fan I just watch u guys a lot 😂would love to meet u guys
Thank you for your support and we are glad you enjoy our videos. I know Adam is extremely busy at times. I will let him know.
Nice find. We shake them in a bag of flower, then fry in butter. Get a crispy outer layer. My favorite. Really good cinnamon and sugar, light coating. Flower, butter my favourite. Yes use an onion bag, so the spores can fall out. The big ones a great stuffed, onion, peppers, cheese, ect. Thanks for sharing.
Great video as always, thumbs up and best regards from New Zealand hunters.
Thanks!
Hey John,
No we don't have them, but we have normal mushrooms that are eatable, the size of dinner plate and very tasty too, hahahaha.
So excited and happy for your wonderful find!! Great Video!!! I have not found very many in Northern IL. this year!
I find 90% of morels around sycamore trees,
still sometimes find them by elms and Ash, my grandma has an apple orchard that's about 20 acres, it's only about 20 years old though so haven't found any there yet
Spent many good times with my grandmother and father hunting morels. Those are beautiful specimines. Thanks great video.
I used to work with a couple of guys that hunted these each year. They said eating them was better then a steak dinner. I’ve never had them, guess i should sometime.
I agree 100%. The best thing I’ve ever ate. Been ‘shrooming since I was tiny. Love them.
I was not planning to watch all 35 min of this video, but I sure did that was awesome! Really liked how you explained everything thanks for this video and have subscribed! I am yet to find my first model but this certainly motivated me haha! Just moved to northeast Illinois and I dont think they grow much here hoping I am wrong though. I must find some and finally taste one! Take care
@@eweone7714 LOL! Without knowing you...I'll assume that was sarcasm.
@@michaelb2999 100% Fact Sir.
this is the most wholesome video i've ever seen
Where is your open netted bag??
This is the first year and first time I have looked for morels.. I found 9 in the morning and 13 in the evening on Tuesday. All were pretty big and perfect. I ended up with just over 3lbs.
Double rainbow guy of morel mushrooms right here
he does not seem gay times two!
This guy is such a decent, lovable dude.
I went pickin w my Dad wen I was a lil girl- he floured ours- DEEELIGHTFUL
That is how I was raised on them. Just dusted with flour that has been seasoned with salt and pepper. Delicious.
Pure happiness, This is so much fun, very exciting !!
Spice bush, bear corn, may apples, and ghost flower. All indicators to look harder.
Biggest one I ever found was a pound in itself before soaking. Was a bunch that were huge next to it but I’ll never forget. Video brought me back to that excitement of finding those huge ones. Gonna go out tomorrow and see if I can finds some in the same spot 😅 video got me pumped for them. Only found a few this year
Been looking for 3 years and still nothing, I'm hoping this spring I find one.
I never find them either at a location my dad would come back with bags full. I think it's over picked
I had the same problem last year, filled my bag quick. Decided that I was not going to do the hike twice. So I tied off the sleeves and bottom of my shirt then filled my shirt with the morels. Hiked out shirtless but very happy.
Best more vid ever lol
Stellar video! I'm such a novice and can't wait to get and start hunting. Couldn't have found a better vid. Thanks man and happy hunting!
I was trained to cut them off and not tear them. A semi sharp knife and a net bag are always part of the gear
In CT/MASS area the season hasn't come yet.. supposedly in a week. Praying for rain! Thank you for making my mouth water. Subscribed!!!
OMG!! next time pick them all and just slice in half, dry on window screen out in the sun, store in net bag in dry spot and enjoy all winter.
Man when you find a nest of them like that it makes it so hard to leave the woods. Great find and thanks for the tree I’d tips.
Good thing you're not allergic to poison ivy lol
Everyone is....some people have a higher tolerance
yeah he was brushing it some...
I always though about it as my super power kinda. I've been blessed to have never had it considering the amount of times I've been in contact with it. I can roll in it and come out fine my brother would come out covered in places you don't even want to imagine.
Just want to say your wife is really pretty. Way to go 👍 Lol
I hunted morels as a kid in Illinois. Live in Tennessee now. Great outing hunting mushrooms!!!! I have actually found them under large flower bushes in my yard as well as the forest.
Im going tomorrow... Wish me luck!
Good luck
Excellent video!! If I ever found a monster patch like you did, I'd set up camp!!!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge 😁
I bet the nicer restaurants and bistros pay top dollar for wild mushrooms like that. They've got so much more flavor than farmed mushrooms.
Yes a morel cooking show!!!! I'd watch. 👀
Dude you need to roll them in flour!!! That's how we fix them...
Matthew Barnes I'll have to try that!
Honestly that sounds terrible. Fish fry and sunflower oil. Unless you like that mushy taste
It's finally starting to sink into me about the relationship between certain trees and morels. It's amazing how early springtime comes in Alaska where you live! (PS Wifey too cute for you - but - she knows & values good outdoor eatin' which ONLY you can provide! Good job there mate!)
