I just started and I used a grid at first for awhile then expanded out the idea of well... ideas I've never done from Simcity.

Flux you know I always support you! I dig the layout design of the city and it looks great!
However, for the placement of the unique buildings I am not really sure. This is not the skyline I want to see. Mainly because the tall buildings are similar in terms of height and the way you place it is not making some rich layers, and too many pencil buildings. Maybe people like this but me only.
You should also download more custom contents for fundamental assets not unique buildings. Although you are not doing a sci fi theme, you should bring some assets like yuttho does which actually makes his city look ideally realistic.
But all in all, this is a start we have waited for a long long time, so this video makes me very happy. I am still following your twitch and UA-cam as usual! Cheers!
+Sinwaz I agree, he's put them a bit too close together for my liking, I agree they should be spread out more. Most real cities are spreadout - businesses make skyscrapers as a status symbol, why would they jam it between another skyscraper that's just as large, it defeats the purpose because it doesn't stand out as much, it's not 'woah look at the google building!!', instead it's 'woah, look at all the tall buildings', which isn't really what companies want.

+Liam Sheppard Actually skyscrapers exist because of land value. The higher the land value is, the taller the buildings get. You want to squeeze the most amount of building in the smallest footprint. Look at the Googolplex or Apples complex, they are massive, but only 4 or 5 stories,

The problem with city planning is that you're building with what you already have established and in a budget. I kinda wanted a mode similar to the regular mode but starting with more money and many of the utilities already unlocked. Like start with 1 million so you could do some actual planning with freeways, roads, interchanges and city transit. If I can find a mod like that I will literally pay the maker $20

Hey Fluxtrance. I wish you would build a city without planning whole districts but just expanding your city gradually and then solve the problems as the arise. Right now you are building your city by planning near perfect districts that are likely not to have traffic problems. I think that the most fun part about cities skylines is to solve traffic issues as they arise, which they will when you expand your city gradually.
Why can't you just name the city Rhinestone and the actual island can be rhinestone island it just sounds more realistic

That first 8 and a half minutes are my favorite part of these.
The 1000 de la Gauchetiere building is a real building! It's located in Montreal and it's the tallest building (without counting the antenas) in Montreal! It is a beauty! :P

I think that it's an interesting choice putting one of the prisons on the island that produces the power. In the event of a jail break, prisoners can storm the power plants, and cut off power to the everyday, hard-working people. lol! :-)

It's crazy how talented Flux really is. This map building was incredible.
You do a very nice job with your steams mate! However, I do have one suggestion for you; place your tallest skyscrapers abit further apart. The view is also a big factor when placing skyscrapers, so you don't want to have that blocked too much by some other huge building right next to it. Just my thoughts anyway. Keep doing a good job.

Consider putting a fire station immediately next to the cargo station so they can utilize the underground road network and influence more of the city.
when you were making offramps at 2:11 you know it's easier to use normal road (so you can snap and use precision engineering easily) to make perfect circles then 'upgrade' it to a freeway ramp

Can you share your tips on how to plan your city? Do you think about all the zoning ahead or do you leave it to a choice of fate? How do you decide on the shape of the city? And do you pay attention to map's natural resources when planning?
I tried to plan everything at first. I actually made screenshots with all the layers and started to paint over some stuff in photoshop, but in the end my head exploded due to complexity
Also, do you think it's reasonable to place schools right next to crowded (in near future) air polluting highways?

You think mixing the land types would add variation to the skyline. For example, mixing high,medium and low residential with some commercial.
If you do end up placing the Burj Al Arab, you should place it around the casino precinct.

The skyscraper you place at 28:11 is from Montreal and is the tallest building in Montreal because no building is allowed to be above the height of the mountain
I'm so glad that you moved the skyline into the hub. I was thinking that was the natural spot for it but was a little surprised when you showed the task buildings out the back. that place seems like a perfect place for a high density residential area. I do think it's a bit of a shame that you used the focal island in the bay for utilities!

The opposite could be said for crime in the real world. It's harder to control crime in large cities. However, fire is relatively easy to control. You're more likely to hear about a crime that occurred, than a fire that took place.

This seems really well planned, but do you really need so many complex roads and train stations and all? It looks pretty ugly and it looks like small city that could have simpler transport. Like would the city covering that island really generate so much traffic that the majority of it were roads?
if he has the population balance mod or something similar (which i'm not sure of though) the big buildings will have i think up to 100 households or something .... and then all of your highway in and outs will be jammed... but it looks fucking rediculous
