That UI mention about deleting personal frame and just tying it to party frames gave me a bit of a cook, will post the results in discord.
As for the pulls themselves... they straight up panicked me, and I was sitting on LS blessing button way too long. I've since taken steps to rapidly NOT do that. Can't speak for how optimal yet, but that error is a high priority target.
The bubble available death, I can't say anything other than bad because panic.
At least, I'm glad I didn't compound the issue on the baseline bad approach >.
While I personally prefer the option Metro mentioned, you also have these options:
- remove your own hp bar from the party ui (presumably Cell) and align the other 4 bars naturally to your own hp bar (works with mouse-over macros but not with click casting)
- add your own HP bar as a bar into your WA group (typically not preferred for healers)
My suggestion (aside from what was already mentioned here) would be to identify for yourself what you are looking at and what information you are not frequently looking at but would actually need or like to know.
A great example is, someone that looks at party frames and enemy name plates a lot might struggle to know what CD is up, how much holy power they have or even how many holy shock charges they have.
A good way to work with that is to get one of the mouse cursor weak auras, have things that are essential to your normal rotation included in it (i.e. maybe Holy Power and Holy shock) and align important CDs and/or "oh shit" buttons next to the party frame.
Whenever things go really bad and you panic is when you either waste your time by searching for things or are cluelessly stuck to where you always look at - so help your future panic-self and give yourself the information that you need the most.
Cool well I hope this helped and if you have any further questions lemme know! Gonna be a lot of great comments coming in too over the next day so I hope they are all helpful!
are you mouseover healing? its looked like you were clicking each frame then healing then clicking a new frame?
I recommend looking into click casting and mouseovers to reduce the number of inputs you have to use to cast a heal. For example, I have have Holy Shock set to my left click button, so instead of my left clicks targeting a player it will cast holy shock instead. This is especially important for a holy paladin because you don't want to have to retarget an enemy in order to cast crusader strike and judgement, and it will help you to keep a priority mob targeted if there's a dangerous cast that needs to be interrupted. You used to have to use an addon like Clique in order to do this, but Blizzard added functionality into the base UI recently in Options - Keybindings.
I just want to say thanks for this. This is the type of content that made me want to sub and interact with your channel in the first place. I appreciate the passion with which you lead folks in the community. I hope to see more positive/helpful content. I appreciate all that you do.

Damn, that tank trolled that healer hard. Wtf was he thinking? 😂 feel bad for this guy, it isn’t his fault as you said.
@@dannyd806 ya rough situation there.
The tank played so bad there that it's kinda impossible to critique this healer. Not saying they played fantastic, but when the tank is pulling the most dangerous mob in the dungeon with 500 other mobs, not much a healer can do.
I think you should have this healer either show a key that got completed but not timed, or a key that started going well and went pretty far but got disbanded so they can actually get some critique.
@@cvilla1944 ya agreed.
I main healer. 50% pug, 50% with my static. On the UI thing, it’s very personal, not super something to fixate on. This key is so troll, I wish there was another key! Super bad pulls by tank, this ain’t mdi and don’t set you up for success. Biggest thing for healers this xpac in pugs is boss and ability timers so you can prep your cds and heals. And practice, practice and practice. Learn when to use your defensive cds, protect yourself! And then you can track defensive cds and spot heal, protect the squishes. Of course a key is a team effort, so despite what people say… ya can’t heal stupidity too 🤷♀️
@@YoWazzup303 well said!
I stopped even tracking Defensives on Team (with OmniCD). As Shaman and MW i dont have externals (yeah, maybe SLT and Cocoon), so i dont care. If people dont have them or cant pot, they usually just die in higher keys anyways. And knowing that they have Defensives, may trick you into thinking that they will use it. Which often is not the case. I track it on Party frames so i see who is good to go during AOE, but i dont take a look before shit happens. No time for that anyway.
@@MrVaeron gotcha if you're a healer without external cds but this is advice for the holy pally who in my mind has one of the best toolkits for externals so it will definitely benefit everyone. i even got our static's ret pally to start using omnicd for this reason.
For me whats missing from this guy is just persistence. The moment you see that your pug teammates are not completing the key for whatever reason, just quit and go next. Take the knowledge out from that run and go to the next one. Sometimes the group is just bad and you gotta deal with it. However you need to do more keys, you will be impressed by the good groups you might find. Don't just break one key and give up, the pug world is wild and sometimes you will have a good group, sometimes not.
That's why i love metro. Finish, finish +1 or +2 or fail. Metro is searching for the next opportunity to shine. No matter the drama the key before. Kinda jealous. I'm kinda demoralized after one or two disaster keys :(
100%. This is what's so awesome about playing healer or tank. You WILL get invited to basically everything. Depleting a key or disbanding a group is nothing to you, you just requeue and go next and you can easily learn from your mistakes from key to key, especially if you're recording and reviewing yourself.
@@VideosSobreHabbo great advice there! Embrace the chaos and you will thrive.
This poor person isn't utilizing any of their cooldowns! AC lightsmith is a very aggressive build. Weapons and wings should essentially be used on cooldown, and it works like a melee disc priest with your damage healing the group. I don't think this player understands how the build works at all.
Great advice overall, I'll be using some of these UI suggestions myself!

@@NeedsMorePants Use your Bulwark like you would use sac. Use your armaments on your biggest pumper. Blessing of summer + armament on your big pumper turns him into a mini aoe heal bot. The higher you go in keys the more you might need to sac/bulwark tanks on scary pulls. If you want some more UI/Clarity advice, just get rid of floating healing text, and dmg text. the targeting someone before healing and missing globals to movement (even tho pala is like 80% instant casts) are really limiting his healing . Also noticed his 1st death was cause he spammed Word of Glory for 2 sec even though he was missing holy power.
@@LeeMes1 agreed for sure.
Exactly this, he also could have stood behind this mob instead of right where the aoe casts - seems like he is target fixating on the health bars and not considering positioning as much as they could be
Two quick Visual clarity recommendations from a long-time healer.
1) Turn off the "floating" damage and healing text. It needless clutters your view of the ground for dodging things.
2) You should enable sort sort of Bar style for "Healing Absorb" on the target. This is essential for managing this affix. When the affix spawns (if you have no help) you instantly dispel one person (I usually hit myself), the start healing. Other players have passive natural healing so you need to know, relatively, of the 4 people left who still have the affix heal the 3 people with the smallest amount of healing absorb remaining. Your dispel will come off CD with about 2 seconds left, and you dispel that last big absorb. I usually don't dispel the tank bc they often can naturally passively heal it off themselves, unless of course there is a mechanic coming up that will kill them. But ALL this logic starts with a quick and clear visual representation of *how much* absorb is left on each person at any given moment.
That floating healing and damage text drives me nuts. That was gone in Cata....
@@FMGHarlequin thanks for trying to help!
He can't target team mates to heal. When you're in wings you heal through doing damage. Then he's targeting his team mates aka he can't use crusader strike to top the team. Maybe consider swapping to caster build

Healing frames on the dominant handside is spot on. My heal frames are always off to the right (but not too far off) so I can see under my feet. I'm also right handed

That's an interesting point with the party frames not on the dominant hand side.. @@robertjohnson375 cool glad that could help some one!
I think the main problem here is the lack of pugging experience. Healing in a pugging environment can get hectic very quickly. Only way to get good at it is to put a lot hours doing it under your belt. Compared to running with a premade group things get out of control a lot. And in the middle of the mayhem it can be easy to forget defensive cds because you are not used to it. A good pugging healer can carry a bad group.
Ya by the way this player talks about pugging you can tell this will be a big adjustment for them.

I always bubble, SAC someone, BOP someone, and LOH someone(if necessary) for that mini bosses first cast. You can basically nullify that first cast with your utility alone.
If you know when and what happens you can. "New" tanks are usually overwhelmed with "what's next".
@@SkimNms ya very strong kit there.
Not that it's the focus of the video, but ironically "kintsugi" (the guild name) is the name for the art of highlighting imperfections in e.g. pottery with gold paint. So you break a bowl, and you glue it back together but highlight the broken nature of the piece to show things can still be useful even when broken. Rather nice concept for a guild name, though possibly also a bit of a self own, implying you've been broken once or twice...
@@pamelajacosqui oh ya that's cool thanks for explaining that!
You went from paladin main to death knight main 😅 very Arthas of you
@@ericv738 absolutely. Love how the two specs are intertwined.
Alright I'll do my best here for him. Holy pally main here for 5 seasons now, Nazzgal-Illidan if you want to see my RIO and gear/talents. Like Metro said, this tank made it very difficult for you to really succeed as a healer, but, i noticed somethings that you can improve on as an Hpal.
1. Out the gate you need to start cycling your blessing of summer. Start that as soon as you can. The goal is to get to blessing of spring which is a great healing cooldown. Use it on yourself for more Hps output.
2. Blessing of sacrifice, correct me if im wrong but i was watching the WA and I didn't see it get used once. There were a few moments where that could have saved someone for sure.
3. Holy Bulwark/Sacred Weapon. Again i could be wrong but it did not look like you pressed it. I watched it a few times and one of them i just stared at the ability the whole time and didnt see it change to a weapon. You're losing a lot of DR/healing and damage output just sitting on those.
4. Lay on Hands. I think there is this misconception the LOH is this big, last minute, hail Mary cooldown that needs to be used in as soon as a player is about to die. You get little value out of this cooldown when you approach it that way. If you try to LOH somebody on the brink of death, more often then not you're not going to get them in time. If someone is getting the piss beat out of them, use LOH to get them to full. You are running Tyrions devotion so the CDR will kick in. You have it for a reason, use it.
5. I know that 1st pull was scuffed but I 100% believe you could have saved it if you would have popped wings earlier in the pull. AC/Lightsmith calls for the very aggressive use of wings, basically on CD. Its cooldown being 1m allows you to alternate it with divine toll so you always have something ready to use.
6. As far as the affix goes, its trash but there are ways to, well, I would say manage it as an Hpal. First get a dispel off immediately. As soon as you hear her voice get ready to remove it from someone. Prio people who cannot do it themselves and people who are dying. The one exception to this is if you know there is another DOT coming. At that point you can hold for a sec and remove both with one dispel.
I won't beat a dead horse, like Metro said, you died with wings up. We have all done it, myself included. Laugh and move on.
Your gameplay will improve with time and experience. Don't let one bad key derail your progress. Pugging past 10 as a healer is possible, you just have to keep going. Identify your mistakes and fix them. Remember that good healers are born through trauma lol. I hope this helps you and i hope you keep playing Hpal because it is very fun and rewarding when you are nailing it. Good luck out there.
@@danoizedafunk753 thanks for the contribution!
There are Cursor Weakauras out there that you could probably customize for your own spells. Basically it is just a visual Weak Aura that has like your main CDs or whatever you want to track, on your cursor and might be interesting to get you in the habit of knowing EXACTLY when they are available and as a visual reminder to USE them (including defensives).
I'm going to echo that the biggest part of healing feels like really knowing what is coming and making sure you have a plan for those worst case scenarios. Because, in pugs, you will see those worst case scenarios lol

100% fucked by the tank imo in that Ara Kara.
For the UI thing. Never heard of the dominant hand thing, and personally that would not work for me and would be so uncomfortable. I'm a right hand dominant, and flicking my mouse from the middle to the left is way faster and feels more natural then going middle->right. That's an awekward angle for my wrist. But again, this is 1000% personal prefrence. I also have mine to the left, pretty much in the same spot. I used to have them slightly closer, but found that it actually caused more problems by not having a clear view of incoming mechanics and seeing my character clearly.
General pug healing stuff that I've learned by pugging 90% of my keys. Always prio yourself and the tank, and sacrafice a a DPS is needed. Sometimes you can't always save everyone.
Don't really have anything to add as healer and hpally main that hasn't already been said. Do another key without tank that thinks you are doing MDI for better insights xD

seems the biggest issue in this one is the tank lol, but one thing i can suggest is mouseover/click casting. looks like he targets each person then heals, slightly faster if you don't have to change target and lets you keep a mob targeted for interrupts/dps etc
I will second this and say that Cell has click-casting included (even spec specific).
This is so easy to do, frees up so many keybinds and cognitive load and very easy to do with Cell.
My personal preference is even to work with mouse clicks +modifiers. i.e. Ctrl + all mouse clicks are all different heals and shift + all mouse clicks is dispel and DRs and so on.
Any type of logic or keybind is similar effort to get used to but having a kind of logic to it enables you to easily switch between different healers without much needing to relearn your hotkeys.
Absolutely agreed there.
Tanks been watching too many high keys as guardian. A lot of them pull to the mini boss. Rarely does it work in a PUG.
There's a way to do it where you pre-incarn, pop barkskin, gather mobs, speed cd, then charge into miniboss. The dps and healer have to be on point though with kicking and cc so the castor mobs dont destroy the group.
@@Icarus-l8z Problem with a non paladin tank mostly is the castermob is starting to drool, grin and foam from the mouth while happily freecasting somewhere far from reach and zapps one of the npcs in your group after the other. Not to get super critical of the H-pal, but playing Lightsmith and not using your armaments, SaC, BoP or Lay on Hands seems a bit odd to me. Sure a lot to deal with, but I do think using some of those key CDs, alot more would be beneficial to the healer, in every situation regardless of how terrible these pulls look to be. Totally agree that a lot of the first 2 pulls shown here are not on the healer though.
Ya agreed the CDs are languishing.
Yeah as someone who doesn't really go above +11 keys, in pugs that big first pull is always dangerous if you aren't mobile enough to ensure it happens quickly and don't have enough coordination to make sure all of the mobs are kicked (especially the fear). They aren't particularly dangerous alone but what happens 9/10 times is that you just have a bunch of spread out casters spamming bolts, a wasted lust, and everything dying super slowly. It should just be a no-go in pugs imo.
What I do instead is pulling conservative on the first platform, but then on the 2nd minoboss platform I pull every single mob *except* for the miniboss, as almost every single mob is just one of those exploding spiders that are very easy to avoid, and like two low impact casters that are very easy to interrupt and move with the group. Then I pull the miniboss after all of that is dead and move to the third platform. It takes care of so much count in a single big pull while ensuring that the boss platform is clear, + it's super fun for the dps instead of just really annoying for the dps and healer.
Its a bullshit pull, that is completly unnecessary. More often than not, 2 people die and you are time negative anway. Just go for half and then chain into boss. Its so messy and hectic thats its absolutely not worth doing it on any key level beyond +10 in a pug.
Agreed, totally not needed. Not sure why it's become such a common thing
Should use click-casting or mouse over for sure, especially as holy pally since you need to be targeting mobs to crusader strike. Targeting then healing adds an extra step everytime you heal and that can easily overwhelm and cause panic
@@joshphilbs98 good point about crusader strike.

@@YusufKhan-dh5yq not at all.
He should have popped Avenging Crusader as the AOE cast started. But there were way too many exploding mobs around the mini boss for him to effectively heal anyway. As to your UI points. I tried once to move my party frames to the right and was totally confounded for 3 days when i moved them back. Something to be said for familiarity i guess. Also i keep player frame ready and easy to see because when i'm in open world I don't have a party frame up, only my own and my target. Also, while plater covers most things i find a target frame useful for bosses who's healthbars get moved out of frame so I can still see thier resource and casts. For trash though I agree that plater is sufficient. Healing this season has mostly been about tanks knowing how to the pull the dungeon and healers being prepared before the bad things happen. Seems clear to me that he was caught unprepared for what was going down. Though with the tank pulling that way i'm not sure he actually could be.
@@SuffragePriest thanks for the tips!
Only 3 mins in but I can make some comments since I saw hes playing holy pally and talking about healing the mechanic. The antiheal mechanic SUCKS as hpal, nearly every AoE heal you have only hits "injured" allies so you literally can only single target heal the mechanic unless it overlaps with damage. Your major cooldowns, Aura Mastery and Avenging Crusader, both do nothing to the anti heal as they are primarily DR and "injured allies" respectively.
Some comments after watching fully: His rotation doesn't seem very good. As lightsmith Judgment is literally 1/4 of your healing, it should never be off cooldown.
Playing holy pally without mouseover healing macros or some sort of focus enemy + target ally macros is insane, you switch so much between damage and healing spells.
During AC you shouldn't be pressing anything that isn't Judgment, Crusader Strike, WoG, or a major CD.
I cant find Awakening in his UI, I can only see it in the top right buff bar, Awakening is almost a stronger cd than the main Avenging Crusader button in keys. Also the infusion procs are pointless to track, especially twice (once around character and once in his weakauras).
Divine Favor is technically worth it, but thinking about it if you aren't doing everything else perfectly is going to be an HPS loss.
Aura Mastery should have been saved for the first Call of the Brood, but it wouldn't have mattered with that pull anyway.
This is great feedback, I hope they see it!
Thanks a lot for helping!
@@matthewwalsh9183 Yeah, awekening proc + beacon of virtue is bascially group wide lay on hands. Really handy to track imo.
I cannot speak for HPal, but as a healer myself, I have keybinds for my own self-heals; I never click/mouseover my own frame.
As a righty, I have my frames on the right side of my monitor, both raid and party. I felt “weird” crossing mid-screen with my mouse. But that’s just me.
KISS (Keep it simple stupid). Only have the WA’s that you need.
This group in particular were ignoring mechanics from what I saw. You cannot stand in shit; I don’t care what your IO or iLvl is. As a player, you need to respect each other; making the healer work harder is fucking non-sense. Pulling for the tank is fucking non-sense. When I play my DPS I am well aware of my role; it’s not to top the meters, it’s to stay alive! So I break contact to avoid a mechanic.
This "pull to miniboss" is really annoying in my weekly +10s as a healer. Like I can make it work if we commit lust to it, but even then everyone needs to get to the miniboss before they start attacking, which in a PUG is a lot to ask for. Just not worth the risk and I prefer to have lust on 1st/3rd boss.
@@vanzi9229 ya very stupid strategy in such an easy key.
While his UI needs some work, based on the few pulls I would say he does not have that much experience as a healer, the tank pretty much screwed him big time but he could have done so much better, its not a big deal if I could talk with the guy, I would tell him to just push past this, at one point he will break the wall skill wise and once he does that the quality of players in his party will improve

i've healed 10s and 11s as a holy pally, and i will say sometimes the bracket can be worse than 12s because of the way the affixes interact with certain mechanics
that aside, i notice you dont really cast ur holy armament or blessing of summer much at all, that really makes them wasted talents. If, like you said, you're panicking, try going herald instead of LS. I alternate between the two and I can say both are viable at this range of keys
as for blessing of summer/seasons, i find it good to macro it to cast @player and slap it on holy shock as a macro so I will use it on cooldown and i can forget about it while it's just doing its thing in the background
hope this helps a bit
Also kicking casts as a holy pally (or any healer cept priest/druid) is really useful, prevents damage, and gives u 1 holy power (if talented)
imo a good gauge if you're really doing your best and its your team not you, is your healing output. if at high stress situations you're outputting 1mil - 1.5mil hps that's a good gauge that you're healing rotation is sufficient and if you still wipe its likely because of a failure on mechanics by the team
i'd just like to add, that im only referring to the very first pull, you obv did fine with the other pulls and it was mostly the grps fault for not interrupting or the dps dying to the crawler's death aoe, no way those were your fault

Good thinking but ya it only works with completed runs.
The thing about healing is that who's to say what is a reasonable amount of healing expected? Of course you can point to bad pulls, missed kicks, and lack of defensives, but if you didn't have any of those you pretty much wouldn't even need healing in a 10. Maybe it's just me but a couple of things I found personally distracting. First and foremost is the combat text. If I were the person in this situation I would remove combat text entirely. Knowing how much damage and healing each little thing you do is irrelevant in the overall scheme of things. And can just be a distraction as it realy fills up the screen quite a bit here. I would suggest turning it off in the options menu under combat. Second I would suggest investing in some "stinky bright potions" This dungeon in particular always feels SUPER dark to me. (This could just be a me thing.) The stinky bright potion puts everything into focus better because eveything is no longer SUPER dark like this. It just makes everything pop and allows you to easily discern what is going on with less delay as your brain tries to sift through layers of darkness. Sure itneeds to be reapplied after death but slap it on a convenient open keybind and you sill always have it going. Now I don't pretend to understand healing or being a healer so all I will say is from what I can see your positioning looks good except for that first pull as you move past the group. This is a mistake I make from time to time myself as it opens you up to a butt pull situation. You did REALLY well marking the tank with the blue box. I tend to do that myself but I also find that (and I am a melee dps) if I am past the tank I am always in heavy danger and if I am behind them I am usually good. Don't get me wrong those exploding mobs have farmed me a TON as I am learning but I try to always err on the side of being behind where the tank is instead of in front of them. Other than that I don't see TOO much that I can comment on. Keep plugging away I still only need 3 portals myself so I am right there with ya. Pce.

@@kfactor99 ya I would t recommend that personally. I think that's what this person did honestly. And it's not working for them at all.
Hes not mouseover healing! hes clicking each frame. i can guarantee thats why hes having so much difficulty. you have to mouseover heal there is no way around out it, each click is such a waste of time and puts you so far behind
And his UI is just bad. mouse over healing, should be as close to your cursor as possible. i also heal with my frame long ways over the frames being stacked. i found it easier.
If he is on US server, he can join the guild i am, im not leader, but we do M+ days during the week. when i joined this guild my gameplay got so much better. i feel people really should try to find a good guild to play with. the game becomes much better imo.
keep up the great work too i appreciate this content alot.
@@TheUnderJaker thanks for saying so and thanks for lending your voice to help!
@ you’re healing community one video at a time my man. It’s great to see. Thank you very much.
@@TheUnderJaker means a real lot, thanks for taking the time to say that!
Maybe don’t heal or dos while tank is gathering l, not healer’s fault i even noticed dps just start dps’ing on bridge.
Lots of issues there for sure.
never be afraid to use defensives tank screwed viewer on this one to but if u know big aoe is incoming u need to be rdy otherwise your just gonna die
@@acerimmer9894 agreed
Hpal is a odd healer ive seen some do well with no gear and some do horrible fully geared but then again it could just be lack of know of said class but in my opinion it felt like he was focused so much on the group and stuff but never healing himself atleast that what i saw a bit during this
hpal is just that, a healer, it isn't a savior. Many heal specs can single-handedly save a pull full of bad pug play by sheer throughput, cc, large party cooldowns, etc (especially in a 10). A good example is a resto shaman or MW monk. Hpals can't do that as easily. It's more reliant on the other 4 players not being bad.
It's the CDs. Hpal Cds are exceptionally strong and basic Hpal is very weak.
People who manage CDs well (or just use them at all) can/will do well, people that do basic healing and save CDs forever do horrible.
I think it's under tuned now but it should still always be good for mythic plus.
I will say, ive pugged as all the healers and Hpal is the hardest for me. It doesn't have any really good "oh shit" buttons. That button you push when you get behind or need to hit everyone at once. Hpal requires smart smart CD usage.
Oh ya!? Surprised to hear that, they were always THE "oh shit" healer with all their burst healing, lay in hands, bubble etc.
I have a similar experience with all the healers. Holy paladin is by far the hardest healer for me. The healing output outside of CDs feels very underwhelming and it's very easy to get behind.
dont play holy pala T.T
why not?
@@heythereguysitsMetro you cant heal outside of burst and atm its a horrible design, i remember it in my pvp day in df, god what a shit show you rly only on cd and crit of judgment, holy shock and wog are just jokes
@ Gotcha, but it looks like they have a LOT of cds, so surely you just have to manage that burst well and its good
