I think former Gilas Coach Serbian R. Toroman formerly handled a bunch of talented collegiate players to an international tournament and they were crushed by their taller, faster and more althletic opponents. Coach Toroman is a champion Serbian coach but still lost not because he is not a good coach but he lacks the right players who would give the opponents a toe-to-toe battle - are tall enough to match up with their opponents big men, very fast and very athletic. The same can be said of Coach Josh Reyes. As an champion American coach said during the holding of the 2023 FIBA World Cup, he also experienced ups and down in his coaching career. Ups when he has the right players that fit in to his requirements in terms of height and heft, skills, speed and athleticism. And downs if he does not have all the right players. He said it is like a puzzle, the players must fit in perfectly.
Whatever offense strategy you used, it would not work if your team is against much taller opponents. Height is might. In the recent FIBA World, Montenegro (whch almost beat USA) Germany and Canada used their height advantage to control the boards and to harass and negate USA shooters.
Let us be contented of what our players achieved. First place was the aim, third place was an achievement. Kudos Gilas.

In order to beat height advantage. You need hassle play, agressive defense, double teaming, fastbreak or speed, dictate the tempo etc. You can't beat them in slow break or setting up plays throughout the game. You need strategy to overcome your disadvantages.
That would make your energy effort twice as your opponent and it will draw out you tired easier than your enemy. Once your tired you cant keep up with your still feeling fresh enemy.

@@concernpinoy9228He won 3 tough games with two coming from our usual kontra pelo, South Korea and Japan. The players given to Coach Josh Reyes has only a 6'5 who plays center. If the team have at least have a couple of 6'9 or 6'10, the team can battle China's 7-footers for control of the rebound. But as it is, the team does not have them. And so let us reconcile our expectations with reality, meaning what we have on hand.

PBA style is still being implemented in Philippine basketball. The NBA learned from the 2004 Olympics that a team of talents is not the same as a talented team. Until the basketball philosophy being forced by SBP is changed, Philippine basketball will languish in mediocrity.

This is what I've been saying all along. Kung ang coach natalo lang ang isang malakas na team at kung makaceleberate ay parang nag champion na sya, it shows wrong precedence sa mga players. Dapat mamba mentality. Sabi nga ni Kobe "Job is not done". Kailangan nilang maisip na that they are not there just to beat one strong team. They are put in a situation to win a Championship, anything less is a failure.

Ball handling, footwork at stamina ba lang kailangan ng malalakas at maliliksi na kabataan saka na yang shooting, nangyayari kasi sa mga may potensyal na tumangkad eh sa mga liga sa grassroot level eh sentro na agad . Naghihintay na lang ng pass sa ilalim ng mga maliliit na guards .. tambay sa ilalim ng ring taga tira taga dribble mga maliliit kaya pag isinalang na mga matataas nating player sa labas ng bansa mahina na galawan.. para maiwasan ito, ibukod na agad ang mga bata na may potensyal na tumagkad at ayuain ang training. Para naman sa mga nag aambisyon na magcoach o trainer, idevelop din at ipadala sa abroad para mas umunlad kaalaman .

That is any head coach wish list. But what can he do if the secondary schools can only give the team this much. Besides, it is very rare to find secondary school or juniors Filipino players standing 6'5 and above at age 15 as he is still in the growing stage and will only reach his maximum height at age 18. Unless he takes growth hormones which might be a banned substance.

Pagtuunan ng pansin yung shooting skills. Irony is pagnakakashoot sa labas, luluwag sa ilalim at pwede nang mag dribble and drive. Ung bansot , di nakashoot sa labas, tapos dribble drive lang ang alam, sa kangkungan pupulutin yan sa international tournaments. Wala pang teamwork, parang mentality ng players ay huwag mong ipasa ang bola sa akin, dito lang ako at magtatago, pag-ipasa mo ang bola sa akin di rin ko naman maiishoot yan sa labas at pagdinadrive ko naman wala akong patutunguhan kasi ang tatangkad ng depensa, so ang gagawin ko hahanapin ko ung shooter/goto player at ipapasa ko lang rin ang bola sa kanya. DAPAT SA PILIPINAS, 1 POINT LANG ANG SCORE SA SHADED LANE, pare matuto magscore from outside.
