Greetings and thanks from Dublin (Ireland). I have about 400 LPs of Indian classical music, and this is from one of my favourites (MUSIC FROM INDIA SERIES - 1, ASD 2295). I bought it in Manchester (England) on the 20th of May 1982, just over 40 years ago! I am so happy to discover this UA-cam upload because my LP recording of this beautiful Chaiti Dhun has a scratch in the middle of it, and now I can listen to it complete again. I have seventeen Gramophone Company of India LP recordings of Ustad Bismillah Khan (I couldn't choose a favourite one), and eleven of Ustad Vilayat Khan's (here, too, a favourite...), plus this single one of them together. My most beloved Indian musician is the late Pandit Nikhil Banerjee. A small story about Pandit Nikhil Banerjee and Ustad Vilayat Khan: in the mid 1980s a nephew of Panditji's - Joydeep Mukherjee (his mother Swati was a sister of Panditji's) - spent two summer holidays with us (my wife Mary and I) here in Dublin. Joydeep told us that they (N.B. and V.K.) were great friends, and, that when they used to meet each other, the first thing they did was to inspect each others hands to observe finger wounds. Who had been practicing the most?! A beautiful friendly rivalry. These musicians should be household names wherever music is loved.
What a great masterpiece. Have had this in my collection for years. Mesmerizing. Both Ustads maestros. One of the most melodious jugal bandis of all times.
Wow! My childhood favourite. I am surprised that how do I remember every move still now. Perhaps I am hearing it may be after 30 years. It is still so fresh in my memory like I heard it just yesterday. Thanks a lot for uploading this Gem! Thanks a lot!!
This is one of the sweetest jugalbandis on LP record. in fact this is one of the pieces which, when I first heard as a teenager in the late 1960s, broke through my ignorance and resistance and opened my mind to, "there possibly may be beauty in classical music and it is worth listening". And there was no looking back. Within a few months went ahead and had converted a few of my bosom friends(who can come only in childhood and adolescence years) too to the cause!
I think such great things rarely comes. The sound of tabla by pandit santa prasad especially the vibration of bayan is rarely heared...Ustad vilayat Khan 's sitar and Ustad bismillah Khan 's shennai is melodious...what a jugalbandi
I had this LP record ..with Gujaree Todi on the other side ...Tabla by Shantanu Prasad ...every note and palta is still fresh in my mind... almost 35 years past
