Thank you for sharing. I took delivery of a New 2001 C5, December of 2000. I put 142000 miles on it. Over the years I've changed a few batteries and tires that's about it. Still going strong.
Love my 2001 C5. Heads up display. Power seats. Power telescope steering wheel. Red interior. I did Minor mild mods. Love my car and it's quick for a dinosaur 4 speed transmission. It is what it is.
Just a minor correction 97-00 345hp 350tq 01-04 LS1 auto 350hp 360tq 01-04 LS1 manual 350hp 375tq 01 LS6 385hp 385tq 02-04 LS6 405hp 400tq There was NO rated horsepower decrease in 2000
I have had my millennium yellow 2003 ZO6 since it was brand new on the showroom floor 4 weeks old from the factory and almost 7 miles on the clock 19 years later $1805,000 mi on the clock five sets of tires one set of front brake pads and it's still all stock and runs great even with the original spark plugs and wires on it,,
Other changes for 2004 cars , Leather on the shift boot came all the way up to the knob prior to 2004 they were about 3/4 inch below the knob. Also that’s when they started putting the ls1 or ls6 sticker on the throttle body. P.s. I love my billy boat prt on my zo6 as well.
Good details. Learned a few things. There were a few notable items on the 2004 Commemorative cars........most notable was that the carbon hood was only on the Commemorative cars, not the other '04 Z06s. Additionally, they are the only ones to get the polished Z06 Speedline wheels and black interior with crossed flags embroidery.
Been watching and lurking/commenting since I bought my 2003 base. Just want to say thanks for the wealth of knowledge! I honestly think I will be using your channel as a reference for what I do in the future.
That is a cool bit of info about the hood on the commemorative edition. I thought the first carbon fiber production pieces did not show up until the C6 Z06 hood and fenders. Nice.
You forgot that in 2004 its harder to change the fuel filter cause its buried deep in the gas tank. I been doing tons of research and watching videos and making notes for when i buy one next year as soon as i get a new house with a garage. Im itching bad, lol. I come from the mustang world mopst my life but love all mucle cars in general. Im glad i can turn wrenches too so i cant tackle just about anything except on these cars doing a clutch and drive train mods. Btw have u evr has issues with the grounds on the car or the steering column lock on you?
Thanks, Mark. I'm sorta in the market for a C5 and appreciate your breakdown on model years. Love the yellow but if I find a Nassau Blue 'vert...she going home with me!🤔
@@VetOnVettes I did the conversion myself and after owning this coupe 20+ years I love the new look of the body line it’s much more fitting of this particular car. I seldom remove the roof being there is no place to put it with a cage but it’s nice to leave at home for a short run here and there.
Thanks for the video… quick question. You mentioned that 02-03 had problems with the valve springs… what about the 04 Z06? Did they fix the valve spring issue by then? I just got one and I’m wondering if I should replace them… thanks Be strong and courageous
I saw that you added a push button start/stop. Do you have a video for that? I had looked it up once on Google but I didn’t have much luck finding a system that would work. It may have been forums saying that they don’t work, IDK?
You mentioned a couple of times “hubcaps” when referring to exhaust changes I believe. What were you referring to? The only time I have ever heard the term hubcaps used is for the plastic covers used on steel wheels, which corvettes obviously do not have
You mentioned that some of the C5 rims were “chrome”. I have an 03 Z06 with chrome rims but read that they are actually high polish aluminum. You would know better than me. Which do you think they are? Thanks
My favorite color. Im looking for one myself. Definitely a rare color. I drove an auto when I detailed cars for Chevy years back. Loved that color since.
Hey there Mark. You are not an idiot; we're just humans with cool cars. One addition to the list may be on the 2004 model year the car came equipped with top post battery terminals and no longer came with side post battery terminals. The late model year 2004 example of a C5 I drive daily does. I would like to share the components the C5 I get to enjoy does NOT have, and I really like it that way. It does not have HUD so no cut out on the dash, just smooth all the way across. It does not have electronic tilt-n-tele steering column, so know broken, stuck steering column there. It does not have auto dimming chromatic mirrors so no bronze discolored glass. No magnetic ride control to have to replace expensive magnetic shocks. No telescoping radio antennae; this C5's antennae is embedded in the glass and spans across the top part of the windshield. No memory seat function which gives way to power adjustable seats with air-powered lumbar and side bolster support for driver and passenger. It does have dual zone climate control, 12-disc CD changer which actually works, both the smoked glass and color matched roofs and fog lights. Torch red paint, carpet and seats with chrome Z06 style wheels. It's a fairly analog car with far less stuff to break and attempt to source for replacement.
Mistakes, mistakes......The thin spokes were NEVER chromed from GM. They were polished aluminum. The telescoping column switch is on the LEFT side of the steering column, NOT anywhere near the ambient interior temp sensor, and not even visible from the passenger side. 2000 models STILL had the plastic swaybar endlinks-In the '01-'04 they were metal. Horsepower ratings remained unchanged until '01. 2000 models had the best non Z06 cam, perhaps to help retain the 345 horsepower rating with pup cats. Also, the EBCM failures on the pre-'01 models is far less common than it is hyped to be! I can speak with experience, having owned a 2000 model for nearly 20 years. Additionally, not all 2000 models got the airbag light, only the very late ones did. Also, the F45 variable suspension was changed to an improved "magnetic ride" F55 in 2003. Nice job, otherwise......👍
Props on the name if it's from what I think it is...'just one more thing, sir'...loved the Robert Conrad character who had that name on that episode! If I'm wrong feel free to think I'm insane lol...
Are there any Corvette specialists in Norfolk? Im looking to buy a C5; do you have a shop/mechanic recommendation for a pre-purchase inspection in the area? Great video, just subscribed, cant wait to watch more. Thanks.
If you look up "LSX 757" Facebook group there are a ton of local resources on there that will point you in the right direction for any LS based platform.
Im starting to look at corvettes. I had my mind set on a C6 GS Manual, but the costs are stupid atm. So i started looking at C5 Z06's, which are also way overpriced right now. I guess it all comes down to how much money you want to spend, but isn't a C5 Z06 a car that is going to need quite a bit of money put into it just to bring it up to relatively modern standards? I had a list of around $9-$10k for some standard upgrades for interior, exterior and some simple bolt ons? Would a C5 Z06 in any way be worth it over a C6 at this point?
Depends on your end goal. I heard c6 are more comfortable and easier to drive. Better trans shifter all that deal. C5s are a little lighter so a little more performance oriented I guess.
A different Vett channel recommended the 2003 over the 2004 because something in the fuel system (maybe the fuel pump or some other part that would eventually fail and have to be replaced?) was moved inside the fuel tank, making it a big job and a big expense.
I’ll probably upgrade to a c7z06 in a couple years. I’m just really wanting that stock 650hp. But I’m 6’3” so it’s a tight squeeze. I’ll have to drive one to see if i can get comfortable.
7k for a C5 is a deal for sure. However, at the age & mileage a lot needs to be replaced if not already. Every ball joint, tie rod, wheel bearing, every piece of rubber hose, leaf springs etc etc. Plus the anxiety of the EBC failure. If it's super clean & taken care of id offer 6500 and mention all the maintenance that will be required. My 2 cents.
I was looking at the roads around town today for the first time ever.. was disappointed.. might look for something a little higher clearance. I really want an 02-03@@VetOnVettes
I agree about the wagon wheel too. First impressions are pretty important and in 1997 I graduated from high school outside of Atlanta, Ga.. Big city, lots of cars and a new car dealership outside of town called Maxie Price Chevrolet (they still sell lots of Corvettes) and started seeing this McLaren F1 looking car driving around here and there.
C5 Z06 very ugly, 😂 thats why they never made another style like that. And it tops out at 160 and the base model yall keep talking down on is 175. Look it up. Its faster off the line and race situation only.

Been researching C5 Z06 Corvettes. Love all the information. Hopefully pulling the trigger soon.

Thanks, great info your very knowledgeable 👍on vets of those years.
The commemorative had polished aluminum wheels, almost looks chrome. The carbon fiber hoods are pretty light compared to the standard
That is a cool bit of info about the hood on the commemorative edition. I thought the first carbon fiber production pieces did not show up until the C6 Z06 hood and fenders. Nice.
3:50 it is no Chrome, it is High Polish Aluminium. Very Big Difference.

I believe only 2004 CE Z06 cars came with carbon fiber hoods, not all 2004 z06 models.
Hey man, what happened to the video you made on the sound deadening installation? I found that video very useful
It's still in my library. I did it quite a while ago.

They are all the same. You can adjust the ride height up or down on all C5 about 1.5 inches.
