I'm a child of war and was always pissed off that those who could do something, didn't. Then I moved to the West and realised that the political structures in place are so vicious, that no matter what normal folk say or do - nothing changes. Not in a meaningful way anyway. The military industrial complex and the greed for natural resources is too vast. Also, people who have never experienced conflict or that level of horror couldn't possibly understand anyway. So sometimes it is better just keep quiet if you don't know what you're talking about. I don't look to entertainment to reinforce the sadness of the current state of the globe.
I agree to the point that people should not be going to someone on social media and shaming then for not taking a stand on this. I don't believe that it is difficult to take a stand on a side of who is the oppressor and who is being oppressed.
THANK YOU for this 🙏🏻 As someone who is currently living and suffering from this conflict- It is SO refreshing and genuine to see someone come out and say that hashtags, Instagram reels and the other social media tidbits mean NOTHING- people hear 0.0001% of the biased history and the truth and think they’re experts. Good for you for admitting you’re not knowledgeable enough on the topic and keeping your mouth shut. That is the BEST WAY TO SUPPORT, the world is cruel and there is so much pain and grief all around, and only those who are effected by it daily know what’s it’s really like, and we don’t need Influencers who know nothing about history or the conflict taking a stand this way or the other 🙏🏻👍🏻 the world need more COMPASSION and less criticism and hate in the name of politics/religion/opinion of people who live on the other side of the world.
I am so sorry you’re living in suffering. I am hoping for you and everyone else that your suffering ends, now. I feel so strongly about what you’ve said. I’m a teacher for 16-20 year olds, so making sure I have an outlook which isn’t damaging or impressionable on them is important. I do not know enough to give helpful informed information. Reading your comment just helped me to know that hopefully I’m approaching it in a positive way for the younger generation. Thank you for sharing your words, I’m thinking of you and hoping peace can be found, take care.
Hey Stef, I completely respect and understand your viewpoint. I think what frustrates people like myself who follow these creators, is that they chose to speak out on the Ukranian war, but considering the death toll and genocide has been far worse in Palestine, creators are now silent. How does one pick which war they speak out on? I think for some followers it just reinforces the fact that those suffering in countries where the population are not white, don't need to be spoken about yet when it's close to home based on the skin colour of who is suffering, creators are happy to throw out an instagram story or post. This is proven in history time and time again and sadly the suffering of those from countries like Palestine doesn't need to be spoke about because we're uneducated, so best to stay uneducated right?
If you say you are too uneducated to speak about it... educate yourself. Would that argument still stand if you said the same about BLM or Ukraine / Russia. And no, a distraction is not needed, if anything the genocide needs to be highlighted even more. I get it though, it is too 'political' to get involved whilst babies are being killed.
silent viewer here from your time in London. As someone who lived both in the UK and Israel i feel that most people form an opinion or as they call "take a stand" on this specific conflict more than any other conflict in the world while they have little to no knowledge about the facts. The only support people who are not impacted by this directly can do if they care so much about the conflict is to educate themselves in private before sharing a meaningless Instagram post because it's trendy. the only act of Social media activism is to make people feel better about their so-called high morals and create biases among younger generations who get all of their information from social media. I admire your conviction in not succumbing to pressures from comments of people trying to have you conform to the way they themselves respond to atrocities in the world which is truly unhelpful to the cause they are trying to advocate. and also thank you for the distraction from this tough time in my life! lots of love
As a long time Jewish follower of yours with family half an hour from some of the worst affected areas I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your ability to just say what I wish everyone else would. I cannot express how frustrating and insulting it is for former friends, social media people I followed, people at my uni (while I’m just trying to get to class) to be lecturing me about my own family’s experience when they couldn’t even begin to understand their situation or the country itself. I have so much respect for people like you guys who are willing to admit where something may not be an area of expertise therefore acknowledging commentary on it may not be productive merely because it’s not your area of expertise! After seeing the title I was so ready to be disappointed as I have been with so many stupid people online spouting their dangerously misinformed views but I was so pleasantly surprised with what you actually had to say. This shows so much integrity I cannot tell you. Thanks Stef and Hannah, love from Sydney. x
I, for one, am thrilled you don’t talk about every heinous war, conflict and horrific act against humanity! There are UA-cam channels who spend all their time dissecting these horrors. If people want to wallow in atrocities then they can help themselves. But trying to shame or bully content creators into picking sides is incredibly inappropriate and offensive! Everyone is allowed an opinion and also have the right to keep their opinions private. This is a channel full of things artistic, aesthetic, family, humor, travel, lifestyle, personal interests, and sometimes an opinion on random things, ideas or concepts and a lovely spot to unplug from the death and destruction going on in our world! This is not a news outlet. There are plenty of other places to go if that subject matter is all that holds their interests! Stef and Hannah are certainly capable to decide for themselves what they want or don’t want to discuss. People can choose to appreciate and enjoy what is uploaded here! They also have the option to go somewhere else to quench their bloodlust! Enough with trying to find more division! Enough with the hate! Just enough already! 🤦🏻♀️🤨🤦🏻♀️ Let he without sin cast the first stone.
On one hand I agree that the majority of us are far too ignorant to share anything helpful on the topic and I absolutely agree that a random content creator making an instagram story will not help the situation, nor will a hashtag etc. That said, we can easily use our ignorance as an excuse to pretend it is not happening and avoid seeking our information to educate ourselves on these topics. Yes, we need to remain compassionate but we also need to stay curious and question all the sources from which we are getting information and we do have a responsibility (even to ourselves) to learn more and gain our own understanding -- on the negative things AND the positives, too.
I take your points regarding not knowing enough or anyone expecting that you should take a side or project an opinion, they are completely valid. I think that the problem that we all face is that because so many of us have been so unaware of who is actually "running the world" and the way that they have been manoeuvring into these positions of absolute control, there is going to be less and less that we can do about it. I don't, however, believe that there is nothing that can be done, there are ways that we can collectively have an impact. The whole Covid shitshow has been very telling of what a shambles the government is, if we are educated on who is being funded/lobbied by whom then we can at least vote with our eyes open. Mass protests and boycotting do work if enough people get involved. For me, the reason that I think all of this is so important is simple really, after seeing how our freedoms can be removed at whim and not liking the way the world seems to be heading, I don't want to look back in ten/twenty years time and tell my kids that I was too self absorbed to realise what was going on or didn't care enough to do anything about it. What we do or don't do now and what we are willing to accept or not undoubtedly sets precedents which shape their future.
Hey Stef, even though I do understand the point you made about creating a distraction from current events, staying silent / neutral feels like endorsing indifference. Me personally, I want to feel that the creators I follow are living in the same reality as us, not detached from it. Authenticity matters now more than ever, and standing for what's right (to you at least) is very important.
our boiler broke down in the coldest winter about 10 years ago cost us that much as well. Recently we had to replace our immersion heater as well then had to flush out the whole system that cost well over £1,000. Hope you get it sorted out asap!!! as its going to get colder! The first home we bought in 1977 had no heating just a gas fire and I was born in 1956 so no heating at all!!! feel for you all
9:30 commentary - SPOT ON. You've explained it well; I wish I could have been so succinct during these last 3+ years. I listen and learn from you, Obiwan. Thank you.
Loving a morning video that isn't chosen by my tiny 2 year old dictator 🙃 Grayson's website is brilliant and he's learning such a huge variety of important life skills. Very excited for the course too 🎉
Fuckkk, this video really got to me. With Grayson learning about websites, Hannah's cool new desk and her love for her old desk - not wanting to throw things away and Steph's speech? at the end. It could be the raging hormones or just life right now - but I'm crying and I feel so down. Anyway, I hope everyone has a good week!
Thank you, Stef. People are so mad at me for not saying anything, but you stated everything perfectly. I would rather not be a performative activist. The highest form of philanthropy is to work silently without any expectation of being congratulated for it.
a lack of education is no excuse for not speaking up for what's right. this is about humanity, not about sides. it's not about hearing your "hot take" or "opinion". posting does not create a distraction.... EVERYBODY, especially those with a platform, who tweets, posts, or simply just repost something in support MAKE A DIFFERENCE. you know why? it forces those posts on the algorithm to go higher and higher which reach new areas/people they hadn't reached before & display the TRUTH of what's happening. of course its not about going to you or hannah for political updates, but making a video about why you're afraid to talk about it doesn't excuse the fact that you couldn't take some time to understand the real history of this "conflict". Or at least provide resources?
Another video that shows how special and different you two are. The world would be a much better place is every content creator was way more like you when it comes to core values, courage, and honesty. Much love to the whole fam.!!
its important that someone with a platform would inform themselves and then project the voices of people that don't have the same reach. Think it's a really lazy to say "it's complicated. I don't know enough.' Let's face it, most 'influencers' are scared of speaking up because they'll lose potential or existing sponsors, that the honest truth and thats the bit you missed out on when you were spouting about atoms.
It would literally take years to properly educate yourself on just the two (the ones that are in the media the most) of the SO MANY conflicts currently happening in the world. You're talking about hundreds of years of history that someone would need to learn, digest, form an opinion and than use that opinion (still not fact) to inform others. And how do you choose which of the humanitarian crisis you should talk about? Just because one is in the media more than the others, doesn’t mean that others do not exist. So let's just turn all the content creators into historians and news broadcasters. None of them are qualified, but they have a platform, so they should speak? It's unrealistic and potentially dangerous. The goal is for everyone to help what they can, and who they can. For some, the focus will be on their community, their city, their country. Some will be educated and informed enough on the topic you want them to talk about, and they will. Great. Expecting everyone to focus on the thing you want them to focus on, or expecting all the content creators to turn into news channels every time something horrible happens in the world (every second) is useless. Focus your anger on the ones that make the decision, not the ones that are trying to live their life and bring a little positivity to an otherwise shitty world.
@@noush6338 It actually took me no time, because it’s logical. It is absolutely ok to do nothing for some things, and everything for other things. And you, or the press, don’t get to decide what those things are. The only ‘right’ thing would be to say something about every injustice, aka literally spend your life trying to right every wrong. And I’m guessing you’re not doing that either since you have time to be preoccupied with what Stef and Hannah (who btw already said a while back that she doesn’t even read the news) of all people have or have not said about one specific injustice.
I understand not feeling well-read enough on the geopolitical aspects. But that’s not what’s asked of influencers or people with social media platforms right now. In all honesty, if you’ve come across even a fraction of the atrocities happening currently in Gaza and the West Bank in your feed, if you’ve heard what the UN, Amnesty, WHO and countless other international organisations are saying about what israel is doing and has been doing long before October 7th (bc God forbid anyone listen to the actual palestinian people on the receiving end of this), you would know, deep inside, that this is unconscionable. People on social media are just crying at the sight of palestinian children and babies murdered in cold blood, bc they could relate as parents to the grieving parents. It’s not complicated, it’s actually ridiculously simple. Entire bloodlines have been wiped out, journalists, doctors, even UN staff. This is about humanity, and people (not politicians) in the UK have been really wonderful and vocal about their support for a ceasefire, which is absolutely the barest minimum at this point. I’ve been a huge fan of yours for years, even before Grayson was born. I won’t insult you or yell at you, that’s not what it’s about. I’ll just tell you that I’m incredibly disappointed you’ve chosen this stance. The fact that you can even choose to not address it and even say that you want to provide distraction from it, is however, incredibly tone deaf and insulting at this point, and is an obscene privilege that oppressed people do not have.
Not a mention here in your comment of the October 7 massacre or the hostages? This is why it’s easier for Stef to say nothing. Because it isn’t actually that simple, and your one sided argument proves that.
@sophiegladstein6730 no because the western narrative gives that more than enough airtime conveniently refusing to address all the history leading up to that event.
I agree with you, things like “it’s a complicated conflict” or “I’m too uneducated to understand and talk on it” just sounds like a cop out if I’m honest and simply don’t want to engage with reality. The Current occupation of Palestine isn’t complicated to understand, Genocide isn’t complicated to get either.
Don’t want to start any arguments but based on your comments I always wonder if you have many friends who work in healthcare. Not saying all decisions made by governments during covid were great but I also know that there was a genuine fear that there would not have been enough staff and supplies to keep people alive and that many countries were quite close to having committee who would have to determine who got healthcare resources and who didn’t. There were people, mostly the more elderly or those with preexisting conditions, who did give up the next ICU bed or other treatment to others who they felt had more to live for or a better chance of living. Have you spoken to family members of frontline workers who had to work, got covid and then died? Most healthcare systems in the world were in survival mode and healthcare workers in various fields, the military, etc. were often used to try and support the staff who typically worked in ICU and to keep the other sick and vulnerable people alive. Sadly some of the elderly especially in care home paid the highest price. The lockdowns were to prevent the healthcare systems from total collapse. Have you spoken to someone with long covid? Someone your age who or younger leading very active normal lives who are now bed bound? What about the healthcare workers who now have PTSD because they saw so many die in a short period of time and had to call family after family to tell them their family member would likely not make it and then died? Researchers and doctors are now seeing the longterm effects of Covid infections especially multiple Covid infections. More data should be coming out in the next few years but longterm implication of Covid infections have left societies which much higher level of disability, lots more cardiac issues in young people even children becoming diabetic and requiring insulin after Covid infections. You seem well versed in the economic implications of Covid but would suggest being as aware of the reasons behind the lockdowns from people in the health system and how bad it actually got. We still are 5-10+ years away from having more concrete data about the longterm implications of having Covid infections (ie. an inflammatory disease).
I’ve been a viewer since before Grayson was born. I am not upset that you haven’t shared your opinion about the genocide (although there is no space for opinion when a GENOCIDE is taking place), it’s how you have reduced the atrocities taking place to “moving atoms”- really?! You surely didn’t reduce COVID and the economic issues to “moving atoms”.
Hey Stef, I was wondering, now you are experimenting with AI, if it's also possible to figure out if you can do some automatically translation subtitles where you can choose from. So I could choose for instance subtitles in dutch to understand your messages for the better. Just wondering...
I wish more people would have just 10% of the awareness of their own limitations like you do, nobody knows it all and pretending to do so develops more miss-information rather than the opposite. You are absolutely right that the basic feeling of compassion for all the losses (everywhere) is there and needing to say it so it's incredible disappointing. How low humans have gotten to need this in record? Thanks for the lovely message and to give us that little break of the awful reality here by seeing some normalcy in other places. Big hugs from Israel
I'm a relativist too... But wondering if your opinion changed after 200 days of constant bombardment that transpired in so many innocent men, women and children killed, maimed, and starved to death... .. And how many lives could have been saved if people spoke up to their representatives to stop supporting it instead of staying silent because it was too controversial .... We have a responsibility to our communities to speak up against injustices... Imagine how many lives could have been saved during the holocaust... Slave trade if people didn't just want to cowardly protect their little bubble of safety (which burst with Ww2) That was a disappointing response from someone that actually has a platform to speak up and reach a greater audience .... They wanted you to project their cry for justice and let it be known it is okay to speak up again what's happening..... instead you justified your silence by making it seem like all they wanted was a hashtag...... I agree it's a shame. You should have said anything at all.
I've been in so many arguments recently about this war and the words people use around it that I'm beginning to think all these powerless people are just trying to argue with me (your friendly neighbourhood librarian who has no choice but to face the public) because they can't argue with anyone who has any actual impact. People accusing you of apathy sound like they just want to argue too. Do people really want 2 people living in Bath to make an opinion piece on a country they have no experience in or understanding of at the risk of getting something wrong and then being put on blast and losing your livelihood? Do. Not. Engage.
Disappointed to see this mutual stance you have taking on a genocide. I guess you are afraid to speak out fear of losing income, so morals go out the window. Many people can not stay silent when they see wrong and especially when it involves innocent babies being starved made homeless and then blown apart. What a cruel world we live in.
We come here Stef and Hannah so we dont have to hear the bull.... on tel a vison, which i dont have, when i want to hear from Israel, i watch this christian jewish couple there, Sergio & Rhoda in Israel, and one for Israel, also i red a book, Son a Hamas which describes accurately about the Hamas subject , so keep on doing what you are doing and dont bother with the hypnotised tel a vision watchers who regurgitate what they see there...
I’m in Texas and love to talk politics, war, poverty, religion, etc, however, I don’t come to your channel to hear y’all talk of those topics.
Because it isn’t actually that simple, and your one sided argument proves that.
agree with you totally, going to unsubscribe now , why is it so hard to understand that there is a genocide happening.
THANK YOU!
thank you for being you
Don’t want to start any arguments but based on your comments I always wonder if you have many friends who work in healthcare.
Great to see the vids back in full flow , seeing you get Hannah use that camera is like me with my wife 😂 x
The real issue at stake is Hannah using the phrase "growing veg."
Hey Stef, I was wondering, now you are experimenting with AI, if it's also possible to figure out if you can do some automatically translation subtitles where you can choose from. So I could choose for instance subtitles in dutch to understand your messages for the better. Just wondering...
Just wanna say am loving your videos. Wishing you guys an abundance of money that somehow flows into your bank account💕💕💕
Have you tried changing the fuse in the plug for the coffee machine?
Also for the future get boiler cover. It's about £20 a month 😊
Great video as always xx
I have an allotment in bath, happy to help/give some advice.
Spot on!
Love you guys ❤
Great URL securing (I mean, it must have come from securing that, right?)
Well said 🥰
I'm a relativist too...
Unfollow, hope you never get better at this.
honestly talk about what you want to talk about.
Thought you guys were moving abroad? X
Give me that onlyfans link Stef!
Do. Not. Engage.
This 💯
This video is so incredibly disappointing you’ve washed your hands of being informed about the facts of a genocide 😢
The us exactly how the holocaust was allowed to happen - people saying it isn’t my problem
You do believe in utter nihilism then and that’s a hook to hang your hat on if you don’t mind picking up your hat alot 😅
I’ve been a subscriber from the beginning for your wickedly talented story telling abilities that takes me away from all the ugly of the world. I have always appreciated your content because of your independent thinking. 🤍
