@@puzzlejinx Nah, you put it there hoping someone misclicks or all the supply dries up and someone doesn't care. After you past 50mil gil, gil doesn't really matter. Gil is insanely easy to get in XIV. The RMT is done with mannequins. There's no tax and you can do way bigger amounts faster.

@@Wolfremmi Dye is probably the worst to do this with. Low demand, and most dye can be easily bought from vendors for low low. You gotta find something that’s often used in endgame recipes, or locked recipes, but a hassle to gather legit. Your stonks will go high.

At 1 point, my name was on universalis sale history at least a hundred times in a row. I was leveling desynth and sometimes you can get material worth 5000 gil a piece from them.
Thankfully this is something you can not do anymore! Being able to travel across Servers and Even Data centers ( from Character selection menu ) to buy from their Market makes it almost impossible for a single person to Monopolize. Its a good move thought to buy something cheap from one Server and resell it back to yours for profit.
First, do maps in PF or with friends to amass a Small Fortune (between 10-15 million gil). Use that money to buy the materials/gear to powerlevel your crafters using Ishgard Restoration, Leves, Custom Deliveries, etc. Do NOT skip on the job quests, as at level 65 in each crafter job quest you unlock Manipulation, which is incredibly powerful. Then, just craft whatever you can turn a profit on. There's dozens of videos talking about how to identify what stuff is going for sale on your server for a good price. I've made over 400 million gil in the last 8 months, even when spending money on dumb stuff like this.
