Unfortunately from the UK owners it seems the software update is being charged for by many dealers. Anywhere from £40-160. Some dealers are also saying it’s at your own risk too, even refusing to perform the update as part of PDI, so even new cars being collected don’t have the updates. They really need to have a consistent approach otherwise it will hurt loyalty.
What was wrong with the parking? Bjørn, I see you just put the charge point on the vehicle to the where the charge cable would reach. If they wanted you to park in the space, they would ensure the charge cable was long enough to reach the charge point on all cars. I am a big long time fan. Thanks for vids. I notice on my MG ZS EV in U.K. when charging at home, the charging display shows about 10 miles more available than on the gom ! I have not checked to see what is displayed when fast charging. Anyone noticed this? Your friend in Norway said he got 22 kilometres more after software upgrade?
Hi Daniel. I realise the gom estimated mileage figure changes with different settings. But when you are charging you can get the car to display in the dashboard, percentage charged, time remaining to fully charge, miles of range in battery. This display seemed to show about 10 miles more than the gom was showing. So I don’t know what it used to calculate it, or did it include some safety margin the gom doesn’t show? I am trying to get my dealer to install the new software upgrade, but they are still on shutdown because they are over the border in Wales. Where do you live?
@@keithgeorge7338 my nearest dealer is Brown and Gammons in Baldock. I'm going to request the software update soon as well as the bonging and horn blows are driving me insane.
Excellent video. I noticed economy mode and KERS/regen level 1 was used, not sure if HVAC was on or off? I would have been good to see the tests in the default settings i.e. normal mode and level 3 KERS. The range of course would have been lower.
Good that they changed the software but this is my experience. I am currently looking at EV cars with the intention of buying one soon. I test drove the MG, it wasn't the best but the price is quite attractive. The sales assistant then started to tell us about the software update that you are describing. It hadn't been applied to the car we drove. The salesman said we might have noticed the 'boing boing' and other features but said "not to worry, MG have fixed all that with a software update and it costs just £85 (€93). WTF I couldn't believe that, you mean that every time MG release software updates to fix things which to be honest are wrong with the car they are going to charge me £85. Sorry that put me right off. Then we he explained how good a deal the swappage scheme only to discover that it didn't work well for our car we felt further disadvantaged. Those two things on top of a slow, basic and incapable infotainment system means that we will probably cross the MG of our list. I have never encountered a situation like this before where a salesman unwittingly did so much to put us off buying his car.
@@mrmachmer7740 Just sour grapes - it is a fantastic deal if you have an old car worth £250. It is a fantastic deal if you could prepare yourself and buy an old banger in advance. But the more your old car is worth the worse the deal is, in fact although we have an 8 year old diesel focus to get rid of, turns out that webuyanycar would give us slightly more than the swappage so we would have lost money. So the swappage is all about opportunity, if you are sat there with an valueless banger it is fantastic, if you have an old, good running car with a bit of value it is useless.

I found the range displayed in the car changes depending on if I switch between Eco/Sport and if I have the air con or whatever on, could it be that?
Hey Bjørn, when you will test the mg5 ev ?
Bjorn, I bought MG ZS EV after seeing your review, just got the car yesterday, can you recommend a 7kw EV charger to install at my home ? Ong from Singapore
