9:55 all are not 'same' .. 1800+ films are made in India per year in 20+ different film industries (Most in World) .. More than Twice of Hollywood .. Do you really think all 1800+ /year are similar ?? .. that's like us seeing snippets of Fast & Furious series and thinking all US films are like that. Unlike the exaggerated stereotypes in West .. every f*king type of style/genre is made in India
Super valid! Obviously we're speaking from a place of ignorance, only seeing advertising for the big budget blockbusters, which are action movies with lots of cgi. And also to be fair, I think saying most Hollywood films are just like fast and furious would be an abt critique. Sometimes all the noise from those movies pulls the wool over our eyes about what else is truly out there. Thanks for the corrections! Hope you liked the review regardless!!
Great comment.. Americans think only America has variety and diversity while all other cultures are these big monoliths representing the stereotypes they have of the culture in their minds (Every Japanese is sword wielding samurai and every Indian breaks into dances all the time.. Smh) .. And no, this observation is not a stereotype. I have a met enough americans to know that.. Only very few have the world view to understand cultural nuances..
For anyone who would like to know: Remember the scene where Bheem sings and the crowd gets inspired to rebel. Many non Indians could not relate and found it lowkey funny but its actually very symbolic. Many Indian freedom fighters were great poets and authors, they inspired the masses, and the influence was so great that they and their work was banned and they were put in jails, even executed. Those poems really had a great impact on India's freedom struggle. They would sing praises of this great civilization while being tortured, publicly to inspire others and otherwise to stay mentally strong as the punishments were so brutal that those could break any human. One such example is Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev singing patriotic songs while they were being taken to the gallows, another when Veer Savarkar wrote patriotic poems on his cellular jail walls during kaala paani punishment. And if you don't know what kaala pani is, its the cruelest of the punishments a human can be given, people who visit that cellular jail even today end up weeping like babies, that place still holds all the pain and suffering of our people. Veer Savarkar would scribble poems on the walls using mud, blood, coals and the british would clean it off in order to break his spirit but he would continue to do so. He was so brilliant that he learnt all those poems by heart in the jail during his 10 year long sentence and published them after being released.
The actors themselves dubbed in Hindi so it's their original voice . And they did one of the best dubbed with accurate translation. They actually dubbed in four languages the main leads did.
the ending when Bheem asks Ram to teach him, its subtly saying Education is the true revolution. by educating his tribal people Bheem wanted to bring the revolution.
In real life, Alluri Sita Rama Raju who is an educated guy left his home for some 4 years and came back starting a revolution fighting for tribals against the British rule. Bheem who is a tribal guy who was not educated left his place, returned to his tribe an educated man and began his revolution against the Nizam rule. The gap of the missing records is bridged by this fictional story in Rajamouli's vision
35:56 slight correction here - the thing i found most amazing about the opening scene is they do that thing where all the bad guys jump on top of him, and he DOESN"T throw his arms up and knock hundreds of guys off like a god. He gets out without using that maneuver and It was really impressive the writers/ directors resisted including that trope.
Nationalism in India is about Civilizational nationalism and not ethnic nationalism as Hinduism is a polytheistic, non-proselytising religion so it's far more accepting than Abrahamic Religions, which most woke news sites hate about Hinduism especially after 2014, when Modi became our Prime minister. I'm myself a "lower caste" Atheist Hindu which is called Nastic Hindu. Yes, atheism is one of the streams of Hinduism! Some of the songs are Hindu traditional songs from Indian epics Ramayan and Mahabharata and others songs were also far more nuanced than the rubbish English translations😂😂 Which is true also for some of the dialogues. There are also a lot of symbolisms from our Epics like from Ramayan where Ram/Raju is literally shown as Lord Ram in the final battle. And Beem is like his loyal soldier Lord Hanuman who is the strongest but naive and innocent, somewhat like Hulk. Also, how Lord Hanuman, along with his Monkey army built a bridge in the ocean (that's why beem is water) to let Lord Ram burn down (that's why he's the fire) evil Ravan's Kingdom to bring back his wife Seeta, who was deceptively captured by Ravan. Also, every scene in Rajamouli's films have a purpose like the flag to save beem from fire, because beem is a tribal he is able to save Raju's life and capture all the animals, etc.

Indian action usually is a representation of the emotions going on and not really about physics and realism. Thats why in this movie, the action becomes crazier and crazier to a point he kicks and lifts a motor cycle. The emotions are popping off at that time. There are a lot of Indian film's clips circulating in the world about some ridiculous action scene (Eg. Singham scene). People laugh at it but in fact, many of those movies are the best movies here, because by the time that stunt happens, the protagonist usually being mentally/physically tortured to a point where he bursts out in gravity defining fashion and everyone in the cinema cheers because even we are also feeling the same bursting emotions. If Americans had not scene RRR, they would have made fun of all the clips and scoffed at it.
Great review…I think any non Indian interpretation is understandably going to miss certain cultural cues and sensibilities. The movie is very symbolic with roots in the Indian epics and philosophy, like Bheem speaking to the tiger (all living beings share souls), Bheem carrying Ram on his shoulders( inspired from Ramayana),the water and fire (individual qualities) and why a balance between all elements is necessary to attain one’s potential as in the end scene.Their biggest achievements are through combining their strengths.Even the flag used is a specific one from 1907,the first unfurled in europe. All while entertaining the audience of course. Kudos for getting a lot of background issues many other reviewers have missed .Eg.The issue of guns.’Gun culture’ and the ‘right to own’ is a very American thing. There’s no such thing in India. The guns were just a means to an end in the movie and not even the best one as Ram acknowledges when he decides to save Bheem. Same with perception of gender. It’s more fluid in these cultures. Men dancing or hugging doesn’t mean anything other than men dancing or hugging .Period. Even nationalism cannot be interpreted the same way in the west and India. Because their histories are different. For countries with an history of aggression nationalism is about superiority over others,in a non aggressive country like India ,nationalism is about loving one’s country, usually for its own protection, not hating any ethnicity. The basic reason being native cultures have their origins in observation not belief, pluralism is an accepted part of it. Belief in one’s superiority over others is not what drives the culture,it’s the people’s connection to its surroundings. So even in revolution,it was never about hate. It’s like if the native american Indians make a movie about their struggle with the Europeans and then get accused of hating the whites by fomenting toxic nationalism. This pluralism sometimes leaves these cultures vulnerable but can also be their biggest strength. But the current day scenario is different no? the BJP misuses hinduism to promote Nazi style superiority & oppression & genocide of non hindus. Bad acting by white actors on purpose- not really. It's more like acting to match the rest of the movie. Every language and culture has slightly different way of expression. American style of speaking would make it harder for many Indians to understand their English . They have to speak the way everyone can understand what they are saying or at least get the tone and emotion to catch what is going on, even without reading subtitles.
What's the next Indian movie you gonna watch? Whatever it is replace it with the telugu movie "Pushpa". It's on Prime with english subtitles. Don't watch dubbed versions.
*I think director made main white characters look blunt and unidimensional on purpose so that audience should not be able to connect with them but just hate them for their cruelty. This movie is showing British raaj in India. For example in movies about Hilter and Nzi, we cannot make those villians too emotionally connectable because they potrey cruelty. Villians should look multidimensional and complex in movies like Joker where it is not related to any real cruel person and is completely fictional character.* It's my opinion why I think director didn't make good white characters.

Very true….Think the disconnect comes from one’s own history. If one has an history of aggression, nationalism sounds like something with an ulterior motive. In a country like India with no history of aggression towards any ethnicity ,nationalism is about loving the country and not hating anybody.
Oh wow. Thanks for this insight! You forget when you grow up in a country like ours, that's nationalism could mean something else somewhere else!
But the current day scenario is different no? the BJP misuses hinduism to promote Nazi style superiority & oppression & genocide of non hindus. Gujarat, UP & Delhi “riots” are massacres & pogroms, no? Are Indians aware of that or too distracted by bjp’s “nationalistic & religious pride” narrative to notice the evil?
Maybe you don't understand the pacing and timeline because u r not used to indian movies but indian easily keep up with it and maybe because of culture thing.
Watch Sardar Udham on prime for better white actors.
You Can also check out the director's other movies Like Bahubali1and2, Eega, Maghdeera
Although Nick liked the bad white actors, I'm sure Marcus is going to appreciate the recommendation! Thanks!
Rrr was a movie for the masses Kantara is a transcendental experience
@45:54 OMG this reminds me of the movei Pokhran, you must watch it you guys, it's about how India tested her own nuclear weapons while America did not want us to. But it was important for us as our not so friendly neigbours had nuclear power. Pokhran is such a thrilling movie and it's based on true events, even more special. And even after getting our hands on the nuclear weapon by such difficulties, India adopted a "retaliation only" policy. We would never attack anyone first.
i recommend watching "Mirzapur- Indian game of thrones" or "the family man- indian spy thrill comedy".
they are universal in there work and genre. best thing is they both have only 9 episode -all intriguing to binge
Wait. There's an Indian Game of Thrones? Does it also have dragons???
@@nowtrythiscast not really, mirzapur is popular because of its abuses (which is not common in indian tv shows, hence the hype), family man is good though.
I recommend both of u watch tumbaddd it’s a 10/10. I promise u
Indian got will be ponniyan selvan which is coming out in sep 30.
*24:00** don't worry they are making RRR2 with same actors as best friends and We will love it I am sure.*
So happy that this movie is so well loved!!!
Same! Getting the praise it deserves!
You guys need to Watch Sardar Udham. One the best movie in my opinion.

Omgggg y'all rock. I seriously love this podcast.
Tumbadd is for horror lover
Watch Baahubali 1,Baahubali 2,EEGA by same director of RRR.
What are those movies about?? Still massive epicness???
@@nowtrythiscast they are still epic movies with over the top action scenes plot may not be very gd.
@@nowtrythiscast yes
RRR is the pinnacle of Indian cinema, you are not gonna find anything like this. Maybe Bahubali comes close, by the same director. Indian story telling and movies will be capturing world audiences, we are maturing. Check KGF you might like it.
Honestly we're just graceful we got to see it when the hype is so real! And now when the next thing comes, we're ready to watch!!
Next should be bahubali part 1and 2 or SARDAR UDHAM...
Apparently we must watch these films! Thanks!!
Please watch the movie Jhund Directed by Nagraj Manjule it's same storytelling like Slumdog millionaire with football team (Jhund)
They have playback singers so they are not singing themselves in this movie. However they are great dancers.
None of the singing is them?! Damn. A little disappointed, not gonna lie.
@@nowtrythiscast indian don't tolerate subpar singing. The movies would tank if the songs are not perfect.
Songs are such significant and deciding factors in making the movie a blockbuster that no producer would allow for any subpar song.
In indian music industry the songs made for movies. For a single song they hire hanfull singers to sing it and then they choose the singer who perfectly fits the movie and song.
Songs are serious shit. These actors will be laughing stock if they are mediocre.
You can make an American version of rrr where the main leads will be red Indians or native aztects Mexicans etc fighting against the colonizers
"They are trying to have their cinema to compete with bollywood" - that is so misinformed
Awesome review 🎖❤️🔥. You two such lovable guys. This is the Ultimate Manly/ Bros Till Death Movie Ever. Finally Got to see men actually being Men in a Movie after long long long f-ing time!. Absolutely Love RRR!.

Great review Guys. You guys should watch Sardar udham. It will be easy for you to understand because half of the movie is in English. It's also about British rule in India. And it was the Best picture of 2021. And the white actors did a great job in the Film 😂🤣 And last 40 mins of this Film will give you chills.
Ooooh, love a recommendation that says it'll give us chills. Thanks!
If u like horror movies,u should watch bollywood horror movie tumbaad
SCOTT IS JENNY’S UNCLE. THAT’S WHY SHE HAS INFLUENCE
You guys will love Magadheera, by the same director and actor. Mark my words
I liked the ultra campy actor and actress who payed the governor and his sadistic wife. They have fairly long resumes and are much more natural in the other roles, but intentionally chew up the scenery here. Everything is dialed up to 11 in RRR. It shouldn’t work, but it does!
You watch gengs of wasepur is super movie
What a great episode, I love this podcast!
Thanks for the support!
YOU SHOULD WATCH BAHUBALI 1 & 2, EEGA FROM THE SAME DIRECTOR
Since you like RRR, I would source you some cinema from different genres in India so it breaks the stereotype that Indian cinema is a monolith..There might be better movies but these are off top of my head.
Horror: Tumbbad (Hindi)
Romance: Sita Ramam(Telugu) +infinite list
Supernatural Drama: Kantara(Kannada)
Coming of Age: 3 Idiots(Hindi) Bangalore Days(Malayalam)
Anthology: Super Deluxe(Tamil)
Thriller: Monica, O my Darling (Hindi) [a lof of great movies in this genre, this one is recent], Drishyam
Historical Drama: Sardar Udham(Hindi)
Military Action: Uri(Hindi)
Fantasy: Bahubali 1+2 (Telugu), Magadheera(Telugu)
Sherlocky: Detective Byomkesh Bakshi
Unclassifiable: Eega(Telugu)
Political Drama: Jana Gana Mana(Malayalam), PS-1 (Tamil)
Mad Hype Stylistic Action Go Boom Boom: KGF-1 and 2
Sports Drama: Jersey, Dangal(Hindi)
Action Thriller: Vikram(Tamil)
Mafia Shit: Gangs of Wasseypur (Hindi)
Social Drama: Swades(Hindi)
Just Mad Action: 2.0, Dhoom 2
Awesome list... One of the best list for Indian cinema.. Must watch movies
U should watch bahubali and magadheera his epics.♥️♥️♥️loved the review
Don't worry dobbed sounds are of the same actors.
That's so amazing we got to hear them and didn't even know it!
Try to watch allu Arjun songs he is a great dancer
Please do watch the movie Sardar Uddham
What Rajamouli showed about oppression by Brits is less than one percent of what actually happened in India
Please review the movies "Andhadhun" and "3 Idiots"
BAHUBALI same director
Now Try This same hosts
RRR- The greatest and Most entertaining Flick from EARRRTH
Atleast watch the trailer of movie #Jhund
Bad acting by white actors on purpose- not really. It's more like acting to match the rest of the movie. Every language and culture has slightly different way of expression. American style of speaking would make it harder for many Indians to understand their English . They have to speak the way everyone can understand what they are saying or at least get the tone and emotion to catch what is going on, even without reading subtitles.
What's the next Indian movie you gonna watch? Whatever it is replace it with the telugu movie "Pushpa". It's on Prime with english subtitles. Don't watch dubbed versions.
I'd say its the greatest Indian action movie ever made, but there are bunch of other good ones too.
Great movie! Great podcast! Love you guys!!!
If you like foreign horror, watch the Hindi movie Tumbbad!
Watch kantara movie its best movie of 2022 by far
rrr for oscars
Plzzzzz review 8n kgf chapter 1 and 2 plzzzz kgf kgf kgf one of the great movie
Soooo, you're saying don't watch kgf? Got it.
@@nowtrythiscast Haha Thankyou. Kgf movie is so overrated in India at the moment and the movie is decent at best. You can avoid it.
Sardar Udham
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Modus Operandi
Ntr jnr is s good singer but for this movie he does not sing.
Ray Stevenson is surely a good actor , I am sure he was asked to act that way which is too dramatic

Is it as epic as RRR???
Hard for "conservatives" to create a remake when Hollywood are 99.9% far Left Liberal. You meant to say Hollywood would make the two new leads, Mark Ruffalo and Chris Evans, would fall into a gay marriage.
Far left liberal is an oxymoron. Liberals are either center left or center right.
Greatest action movie ever made? That’s too much bruh. It’s a well made entertaining movie, but this is just too much lol
South Indian movies can be a little cringe and unrealistic with over the top action…. Indian audience isn’t very woke so are some of the directors … just be prepared. Certain things they portray can be controversial and the west might find that weird/ cringe 😬 while some of the Indian audience find that alright
Thanks for the heads up! But if you look at our back catalog, we've watched some cringe movies, so hopefully we're a little prepared!
@@nowtrythiscast that guy just exaggerating the bad things...U can watch all good indian movies which are recommended to u... South India as some great stories
Greatest action sequence ever made i think you guys watch less movies🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 all the epic action and rememberable moments of this movie is stolen from superhit Hollywood movies 🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️to be honest this is the most over rated movie in worlds history 🤣🤣🤣🤣 with no logic fight scene and they buried the thing called gravity on this movie 🤣🤣🤣🤣 its actually total cringe movie to be exact 🤣🤣🤣 here are the copy from Hollywood info Avenger Infinity War - Thor Storm Breaker scene, 10000 BC - Face to face with Sabre tooth tiger, Kung fu Panda 2 - Flip on tower fight, The Avenger - Captain America punching bag scene, Ghost Rider - Let's ride together, The Star Wars animated series - Hand shake under the bridge scene was copy from, Passion of Christ - Flagellation scene and many more but i think this ones are more noticeable compare to others.
I can feel ur pain... Stomach Burning 😂😂😂
