Sounds like everybody calling out the liberal and them using trumps name and other non important things to cover up real world problem and take away from it like balenciaga, what happened in Ohio, what’s going on with the banking system, using COVID to make bills behind peoples back and make schools indoctrination camps, as well as launder money through Ukraine and make secret deals with China and hide Biden daughters diary and his sons laptop as well as using COVID to fear monger the public and force people to get the vaccine with they heavily invested in before pushing it to the public….I can keep going
The Netflix documentary seemed too short. But learned something I didn't know, thanks to another outspoken woman that stood her ground! Rest in Paradise, Martha Mitchell. ❤️

Martha Mitchell is having a moment with the Starz show starring Julia Roberts, now this. Good that history is being told and the record is being cleared. I'm confused that when I studied Watergate in high school Martha wasn't mentioned.

Good documentary and not drawn out for length. I love that she supported Nixon when it felt right to her and didn’t flinch to call him out in public when it felt right too. If everyone took her approach we would have a better 2 party system. She didn’t put party over justice.

such an innocent time. compared with what yahoos on both sides of the aisle get away with nowadays.
There may physically be "two sides of the aisle", but the reality is that they're two wings of the same bird. Politics is 🎭🎭. It's meant to distract the population from what's really going on behind the scenes.
This isn't meant to be rude, but it wasn't really an innocent time, though those of us who lived through it thought it was. Things were just as 'dirty' back then, but they were more easily hidden from the general public. As an example, there were so many people who believed that Woodward and Bernstein were so called 'heroes' for breaking the Watergate story and following that up with so much more, when the reality has been known for quite a while now. Woodward was working for the CIA in its successful plan to take Nixon down.
So, things were just as bad back then, but there WAS innocence. It was the innocence of the American people, who believed everything the media told us. Unfortunately, many people still do!!

Wow I just watched the whole series with Julia Roberts playing her. She was a great woman she was pegged for having a big mouth cuz people hate hearing the truth till this day women wrong or an embarrassment to have a big mouth who cares have a big mouth say what you have to whoever don’t like you who cares life is to short to worry about what everyone thinks and says about you look, even her daughter turned against her and she probably has/had a long life to suffer with her guilt so in the end like Martha all you have is you
Julia Roberts really doesn’t capture her that well in ‘Gaslit’ - whether that was a collaborative decision by everyone, or just Roberts’ own choice. I can see how someone could get carried away trying to impersonate her exactly. But the accent is way off. And I realize in private, Martha probably wasn’t that crazy energetic... still, I think a better balance should have been done in ‘Gaslit’ I’m very intrigued to watch this - I think I’ll have a much better understanding of this woman.

"Gaslit" is a cartoon, playing for kitschy laughs. This looks like another (yawn) political re-branding of a historical person through a modern lens. I wish they'd just approach her as a human being and not as a symbol of anything, because she was a fascinating character. Crazy? Sure, a little, but that's just where the story begins.
You've missed the point, Joe.... as Nixon said himself, "if there were no Martha Mitchell, there would be no Watergate" because SHE was the one that kept the story in the headlines. That's why she is a "symbol" to you but a Hero to many of us.
@@SammyNeedsAnAlibi I've read a lot about Watergate, and I just disagree with Nixon on that- as with much of his scapegoating. I don't think Martha Mitchell drove the investigation at any point. And if you look at my comment, I didn't say she was a symbol- I said she is being treated as such.

I lived through Watergate- everyday our teachers would turn on TVs so we could watch the hearings, and then the teachers would use what was discussed into a lesson for the class on the US Constitution. So I can tell ya from the front row, the Martha kept beating the drum- thinking she was HELPING her husband John Mitchell by doing so. She didn't know that he was knee deep into it and was actually hurting him instead of her intended target- Nixon.

MM is admittedly an area of the whole thing I've neglected a bit and am learning quite a bit more lately. I'll boil my disappointment with "Gaslit" down to this: it looks to me like the women are acting and the men are in an SNL skit. I wish it had taken a more believable tone. But I'm really looking forward to CNN's special on Sunday (timer all set)- and the forthcoming MM documentary, if I can access it. Cheers!
@@SurferJoe1 totally agree with you there- I prefer documentaries that show the actual people, but it's my hope that docudrama's like this will encourage people to read up on it or watch the old youtube videos to see for themselves how this all unfolded. It did for my kids and some of my grandkids- they ask me about it and the first thing I do is find youtube videos to show them that the docudrama isn't that far from the truth.
