    Blaze! Another awesome video, thank you for saying this! This and your ‘abandon Wicca’ video go really well together, I know personally I spent so so long getting obsessed over what to call myself and what I believe, it’s so easy to get lost in the endless pursuit of having that want to know and understand yourself, and the world around you, and how you perceive it, that you just forget to sit back and remember why we seek this in the first place. This stuff is so so interesting, so many schools of thought and so many ways of thinking about life. Learning by living your life and just taking the time to notice things around you have been the biggest teacher for me so far. That and your videos! Haha. It’s nice that new comers who are interested can find stuff like these videos blaze, “a wiseman can learn from a child, only a fool needs an ancient text” . You have a super level headed and down to earth way of explaining things, hope all is well!

      thank you very much pixxel, very kind of you to say so. I would add my video on "What are you called? Witch, Wiccan, Druid, Priest/ess" ua-cam.com/video/bKGqrLK4qMU/v-deo.html If you've not seen that, that is along the same lines of what you are talking about. I myself have been through this many times, a name, a title, and identity. I've moved away from organized religion at this point or even paths. I consider myself spiritual and am more concerned with learning and research as well as experiencing over trying to find what I should refer to myself as. So far, I've felt more content with my path and self. Time will tell if I change my mind :D

      @@BlazeLeeDragon yes!! I have seen that video, i loved that one as well :) whenever i find myself having those thoughts those videos are what i refer to, so thank you for that! Yeah, that makes sense! If i recall correctly you mentioned it in one of those videos your path was called the '1 second path' because its always changing!. I agree with the organised religion part there, i can understand how it comforts those who need that sense of community and identity, i just cant stick to any specific label!! Each path and philosophy brings so much to the table, its such a beautiful thing to explore and find what parts you agree with and what you want to explore!

    Really glad you are advocating digging deeper into sources. First thing I do when I find a book I'm interested in is check the bibliography and acknowledgements. Says a lot about whether its worth the effort, right there!

      facts! yeah I'm starting to get sick of repeated hear say and miss information. I feel like I've wasted years on non-sense...but I guess I did learn something in all that time.

    I am so glad to hear you are delving into the source materials--so much is available now vs when I first started researching pagan ways in the early 80s. You do a great job presenting these key materials and I am sure it will inspire others to 'do the research'.
    As to group practice man is that tricky--I haven't done that in a long time--unfortunately too much ego battling spoils the energy. Sometimes I prefer just one or two person loose groups or solitary. I have this theory that the more unique you make your practice the more powerful it becomes. Ex finding materials and making your own tools, exploring deep resources and incorporating various concepts that resonate into your practice. I would love to hear what others think regarding this theory, maybe you could include the idea in a future vid. As always, great work! 🍃✌🏼🧚‍♂️

      that would make for two good videos. both on groups and on solitary practice and customizing it. (spoiler I agree, making it your own CAN make it more potent. IMO).

    Tara (from Niagara area Canada) Great food for thought as always! I recently had the same type of debate with a friend who has gotten hardcore into Wicca. I've been away from the path a while and coming back to it and they berated me as I put my Altar facing West as I feel more attracted to the element of water and it looks better where I placed it. They insist on East or North facing and when asked why...because the book says so. Great if I came back to the Wiccan beliefs vs just the witchcraft element so there ya go. :)

      yeah that always frustrates me, IMO one should act with purpose and understanding. Not just cause others "tell you too".

    Great video. Thank you for this. You have to realize that when you do the kind of research you are speaking about, it can go on forever and really lead you down the rabbit hole. And that is only assuming that what you are finding is true.
    You also have to look at the fact that there are quite a few people in Paganism that were raised in Christianity or something similar and these people were raised with only 1 book being the end all be all of all truth. To go from that to what you are speaking about is quite the culture shock (so to speak)

      very good point! and great way to paint a picture of folks that come from christianity.

    The Wiccan Rede was written back in 1975

    • @BlazeLeeDragon
      @BlazeLeeDragon  Рік тому

      There are claims that Doreen Valiente recorded a version of the rede in the 1960s. Ed Fitch has a "witch's rede" in his grimore of shadows (no idea on origin or if he wrote this). I have not been able to find an older version then Doreen's.
      according to wikipedia it was 1964 but the reference site is missing.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiccan_Rede
      another source I found is this:
      www.learnreligions.com/the-wiccan-rede-2562601
      "One version of the Wiccan Rede was made famous by Doreen Valiente in the early 1960s, and in 1974 a lengthier version, by Lady Gwen Thompson, was published in the Green Egg, a Pagan magazine. Thompson credited her grandmother, Adriana Porter, with the original work. Although there is no scholarly evidence for this claim, the work remains one of the most popular writings in Wicca today."
      This is the oldest reference I can find. I do not have any book that says when the rede was written or where it came from though.
      To me the rede is a prime example of regurgitation. Everyone knows about it, a lot of folks can quote a version. But no one seems to know its source origin, unless we go off of these obscure websites. Yet its the center piece of the new age movement called wicca today.

    I'm beginning to research things more and more. I'm seeing that some things aren't fact about what I once believed about "Heathenry". Some of it is total bs.
    Oath Rings and making oaths to a particular god is what I'm researching now.

      same, its disappointing considering how much stuff is "religiously" repeated by the community and folks get hate for trying to dig out sources...

    As far as I have read online, Hindu texts and religion, if u want to call it that that than sanatana dharma) are the oldest on earth. Do u agree?

    • @BlazeLeeDragon
      @BlazeLeeDragon  11 місяців тому +1

      possibly... I'm not sure on all the official records but I do believe Hinduism is one of the older ones one would have to consider what is a religious text and how much has it changed from when it was written vs today. For example there is the Kesh Temple Hymn from 2600 BCE that is almost 5,000 years old. Many faiths claim being ancient but how do you prove that and that it hasn't changed?
      Some old ones:
      Hinduism
      Mahabharata
      Zoroastrianism
      Judaism
