My understanding is that its specially made, The disk brake side is regular disc brake mounting holes, but the other has a mounting hole pattern for a dirt bike type rear sprocket instead of a bicycle cassette.
Because your making it yourself, you can set the specs for the rear so I'd suggest just using a pit bike hub laced to a larger size dirt bike wheel, or if you want to stick to mountain bike tire's lace it to a MTB rim.
Great detailed video! Thanks for not putting some lame song on top of it and keeping to the facts ;)
You should be able to use any plain dirt bike throttle, I got mine from sick bike parts. For the switch I use an on/off but have since changed that to a momentary push button so hitting the switch accidentally for a second wont kill the engine. You can get those on eBay (called "button killswitch")..
I havent had any issues with the Police, not even stopping me to check it. I went 125 to 140 then down to 50cc to stay legal.
Those who have ridden mine love it - even MX guys.
It says "ELECTRICROSS", with a wheeled lightning bolt above it. I haven't seen anything similar. If you search for information on Electricross, they made a bike called the drift in 2009, were out of Santa Cruz and their domain redirects to Zero Motorcycles. Cam Woods of Motopeds works for Zero Motorcycles now, so my guess is that Electricross was just a brand name/other project prior to Motopeds and Zero bought it when they hired Cam.
It is 2" OD, but it's a single spar and doesn't have a triangle type frame to distribute the loads or add stiffness so my bet is that smaller diameter and thinner walls wouldn't be a good idea.
I love your vids. I love my motoped. I would love to see a parts list. Headset and forks in particular. Or an idea of specifics to look for in a new set.
I think the motoped is a great platform. Electric upgrades are something I like to see coming more to the market.
Keep up the good work. Thanks again.

All the way at the bottom of that page is a list of all the parts I used in the video - no links to sellers, as I got the vast majority of it on eBay and the links would be dead by now.
Total cost was $2500. The frame/swingarm from Motopeds being the biggest single expense at $1500. Next was the Lifan Engine at just under $300. I got a good deal on the front forks at $125 which are generally a bit more than that.
On the Motopeds kickstarter page they say their sprockets are made by Azusa Engineering. I checked the Azusa site (add a dot com to their name) and couldn't find anything that matched. Unfortunately I cant get accurate measurements with it mounted on the hub, I'm sure Asuza or Motopeds would be happy to help with that though.
I did, if you google "motoped intro" its on the first result. Unfortunately its not a very complete list with vendor information as I bought a lot of the stuff from eBay and sellers come and go there.
As far as I'm aware they currently only sell the frame/swingarm/hub kit and you have to buy the other parts yourself.
The Steerer tube on the forks is 8.5", the frames Headtube on the frame is 5.5"
@2239968 I think its mainly because I went with the cheapest components. If you get a more expensive seat you don't need to make that bracket (sikk50 etc).
You don't need those plastic washers on swingarm.
The front brake shouldn't have needed anything, but again I went with the cheapest DH fork I could find.
The crankset came from a 2001 bike that wasn't designed to be taken apart so if you bought a single speed or a DH crank set you likely wont need that, and can adjust with washers.
The drive sprocket on the engine turns, but its disengaged from the rest of the engine. I dont feel any extra drag/resistance caused by the Engine.
@bigdiesels Pedaling isn't hard, its just slow. It's faster than walking, but not by much. The exhaust isn't too restrictive.
RST was $150 from eBay (in 2010), guy had 8 of them.
Hey man nice build great work! are your brakes cable driven? You should install some hydraulic ones!
I'm so Fat and Lazy that I even have to use a car to get around.
The cranks off a 2001 specialized I had to adjust chainline. The regular cranks I replaced those with which I believe were FSA, the chain line was perfect.
May I point out that the forks are terrible - shitting on those would be a much better use of your time when the chainline issue is actually moot if people get the right ones.
Hello,
nice video we got here, can i get an info?
how long is the headtube of that forks??
Thanks - I had not found that. A lot is self-explanatory, except for throttle/cable/grips/switch - maybe there are generic sets for motorcycles. Did you go 50cc? How about 125cc, but marked 50 ;-) Cops find it interesting where you live? Do you still ride it - what's your take now?
Is that rear hub one you can buy off the shelf? Wondering if I could use a chris king hub..trying to build my own but just finalizing my spec sheet..
But in your video the rear hub has a logo on it..is that a custom one you put or the one they sent..thought they didn't have a logo on it
Also, am I seeing that right..that frame tubing looks like its 2" tubing...seems like over kill..if it was like 1 1/2 tubing with really thin walls it would be fine but just curious if you knew
On the rear hub is the sprocket just a pitbike sprocket? Trying to find a sprocket that looks like that one. The only thing I have come up with is a pitbike sprocket. And do you think you could measure the bolt pattern and the inside diameter of that sprocket for me by chance?? Would greatly appreciate it.
Do you still have bike? If so do you know how thick the aluminum plates are that the jackshaft mounts to?
When pedaling this does the engine turn as well or is it in neutral or something so that its not causing more drag while pedaling? (when engine is off)
I'll work on a specific parts list and post it to the mopeds page on my n1bpd website (not enough space here and cant make a nice list in the description).
I also sent you a PM.
Hi - Did you finish your bill of materials? I'd love to have a copy too.
Why did you need all of these one off pieces? I have been in contact with motoped about their 2011 kits and do not really want to deal with all of that?
Great job! upload more videos please!
what was the overall cost of this project ( rough figure) ?
respect
No its not. Its designed from the same guy that makes Zero electric motorcycles, its a cross between a pit bike and a dh bike. Some hate it but I think its great. Well built.
I dont sell these, I'm just a poor sap who posted his build on the internet to get berated by random people.
So I used cheap cranks? Why would I go out and buy new cranks and chainrings when I wasn't even sure what ratio I wanted to use - I instead opted to use a set of cranks I've had sitting around doing nothing for ages, and I made them work with a tiny bit of effort.... made sense to me at the time.
@bigdiesels Its easy enough to pedal, but slow due to the low ratio.
you have the wrong front caliper adapter i did the same thing at first but i used the presta valve lock rings as spacers the worked perfect, but that's dangerous get the correct adapter
Thanks - I should edit the video to mention that. I ended up realizing that when I took it to a bike shop and we found the right adapter.
a edit would be great so people are setting their brakes up correctly, otherwise thanks for the video im sure it will help many people out whats the deal with the delrin bushing you made for the rear end
The rear swing arm clamps onto the outside of the bearing and I was worried that the swing arm might shift left or right and hit the frame. The bushing was to stop that happened.
Ended up being unnecessary as once torqued down to spec the swing arm isn't moving.
Dude u guys are totally discouraging potential future motoped owners. This kit is made of the beast craftsmanship i have seen in a while. There is nothing wrong with the kit he received. He was just trying to make parts fit that were not meant for this application. This is why I'm buying the rolling chassis. Go to the web sight and look at the parts they put on this and tell me if you could have made it for cheaper than 2000.00. And I'm getting a 800.00 engine 155z ho. 2800 for super nice motoped with parts they recommend for this bike because don't forget this is not a 20lbs. Mountain bike these can way between 100-150lbs. That's why they use 4piston hydraulic brakes to stop this beast now. These things are sick don't let anyone else say otherwise.
im not talking about this guys biuld im talking about the frame and concept
Im considering the same thing Scott. I recently found a video of the guys testing out one with a pitster pro 155z motor with manual trans. It seems to have plenty of power and claims to go 65mph. Would make a sweet ride /watch?v=M473J6H9fV8
why didnt u put "real" oil dh-breaks instead of this cable shit?
it's just a cheap homemade motorbike purchased from a IKEA like factory, DH bikes don't have motors in them ffs
Put a better forks and hydraulic disc brakes on it and its done!
Delete Ozzy the loser. Even his parents didn't like him. Great video.
The negativity that some people force on others is bewildering.
This guy (beautifully) machined everything that wasn't to spec. Great job, I completely admire the craftsmanship and ingenuity in this video.
Most consumers would simply purchase components and higher-end materials to compensate for their lack of skill and confidence. Making-do with what you have can be an empowering concept.
Thanks for taking the time to share this.
