    • @DepDawg
      @DepDawg Рік тому +6

      @@msdarby515 Sort of. It was called the No Child Left Behind Act. Then Pres. Obama upgraded it to Every Student Succeeds Act. It doesn’t force schools to pass a student on to the next grade or to graduate them, but it punishes schools for every student who fails and is left behind. They have economic sanctions imposed on them, and as the fees increase, they add the additional punishments of the firing of staff and even the closing of the school. As a result, schools are reluctant to fail anyone because it is costly.
      The Acts don’t address why students are failing, they just punish the schools and staff for the failures. Since they began the implementation of these Acts, school has become a free pass for students. There’s really no way for them to fail unless they drop out.

    It's not just your school systems. Parents have had thier own minds turned to soup by reality tv where you switch off your brain to watch people who don't have one. This has resulted in a lack of critical thinkers and as a result we allowed our children to grow up watching and idolising people who aren't worthy of the life they lead. Finally because we became so pathetically docile and unwilling to face problems that require intelligence and nuance thinking, we submitted to anything that seemed "nice" which allowed people to focus and create issues that are simply not real. It's a lot easier to dye your hair and scream that you're a fucking penguin with special pronouns than it is to solve world hunger, cures to diseases and hell even your own homeless population.

    What's happened is that "no-one wants anyone to fail" attitude. So what happens is kids 'learn' to guess instead of think, because they are rewarded in just 'tryng'. Like the presenter says "yes" to each wrong answer... All those kids answered with a guess.

      I agree, my older kids lived with their father who would let them do anything they wanted. They have all either went to college and failed their first semester and didn't go back, or they decided they knew more than the degree required even though they didn't take any classes for that program. Funny right! My youngest son has made a point. He is 13, autistic, and has several learning disabilities. He said and I quote: "Why do they not want to learn? Do they just think the government is going to keep taking care of them. Mom I'm not going to college. I am not going to be funding the government by paying interest on a student loan to go to an overpriced college. I will continue our farm as an adult. I will live off of what we make as a family after you and dad are taken care of." Too many young people don't care about anyone except themselves. My youngest thinks most of the stuff he sees on social media is the dumbest things he has ever seen, granted that he is only 13. This is why we homeschool. My older children showed me something was wrong. Then covid hit, and we noticed the work my son was doing, he couldn't do it. The school never sent home school work to be done at home. We didn't get anything back until the end of the year. That is when we decided to homeschool and make sure my son at least learns basic math, science, and history. I don't care if I am teaching my special needs son till I am dead, at least I can say that I tried my best.

    Here's the thing: while our educational system does SUCK in the United States, the issue is multi-faceted. It's not just the schools that are to blame for our country's general lack of proper education and ability to think critically -- it's the parents, as well. If your child is going to school and then coming home and you aren't engaging with them and asking them questions about what they learned, and are instead allowing them to sit around watching TV and scrolling on their phones, you're part of the reason why they aren't absorbing any of the information they're receiving during the day. That's also how you catch it if they were given some misinformation, or if they were told something by an educator that you disagree with, and you can encourage your child to think critically about it. Parents are not engaged enough in their children's education and are usually distracted and/or zoned out in front of their own electronic devices, so what do we expect? This is the result.
    It's not entirely the fault of all of the parents, as many of them are the victims of all of our other failed systems and the stress of trying to manage finances and work and all of the other problems that we've got going on in this country that have left us overwhelmed, burnt out, miserable, depressed, etc. -- leaving a lot of them unable to engage fully in their kids' lives and education. But there are a lot of parents who choose not to engage, choose not to put in the effort of making rules and setting boundaries when it comes to electronic use, choose to sit around on their own devices and set a bad example for their kids, etc. -- and that's a huge part of the problem, from what I can see.

      I'm also from Canada. while my education in grade school was mediocre (we never learned geography or history until high school) and focussed WAY too much on religion... they still taught us a lot. Math was the primary focus.
      High school was great. Our health class stuck to topics like alcoholism, nutrition, and like a day on sexually transmitted diseases (catholic school board wouldn't approve more) But the teachers still went out of their way. My Sociology teacher spent a day talking to us, going above and beyond, about STD's and transmission, and prevention. She thought the 'abstinence" only approach the school had was stupid. She wasn't allowed to talk to us about that...but did it anyways
      And our high school religion teachers did break things down to us, making us think...pointing things out like how often was the Bible edited & revised? Who printed it? etc so you could understand that you can't take everything at face value.
      In high school we had a more structured schedule too so we had a couple electives each semester, and overall we still had to take certain classes to graduate. ie) You had to take grade 9 & 10 general science + 4 other science classes. I took biology & Advance biology & chemistry & advance chem. But if you could take them scattered throughout your time there or just do them all in senior year. They were flexible as long as you did the work and passed.
      They taught us critical thinking skills. And if you were bored in a class, ask for extra work or just take a book out and read so you were quiet and still educating yourself on something.

He replied and I kid you not "They gave me the answers!" I was shocked. This is why they never send home homework. They also have to share textbooks. The no child left behind program actually hurts kids by promoting them forward instead of letting the repeat the grade over. They run an age restriction for each grade. My youngest son who is autistic and dyslexic, failed kindergarten. He repeated, but he needed to repeat. I was for it. The teacher said, "I didn't have a choice to promote him, he aged out." Back when I was a kid you didn't get promoted until you passed. My brother got retained in kindergarten, and then he got retained in 3rd grade three times.

    When I was taking sex ed class in high school I got marked wrong for answering that the genders were male and female and the correct answer was that gender was however you express yourself or some BS along those lines. This was in a school in Chicago. These schools are not teaching kids correctly. Most of my teachers were activists. My civics class was really just an anti trump class. My history class was just had us doing pro blm work and teaching anti police rhetoric telling us that cops were out to harm us and the schools were having a vote to get rid of the officers we have for our protection. Our teachers told us the country was holding us down because our race and we would always be behind whites. My buddies high school teachers were live streaming the Biden inauguration celebrating. I got invited to a student held event on communist ideology telling us to rise up and fight for liberation. When you look at the younger generations and wonder why they are the way that they are its because of the schools.
