  • I had a couple bad hydraulic lines on my bucket. I removed them and made two new ones. This video shows how to make a hydraulic line.

No, that's how YOU make a new hydraulic line. The rest of us are too poor to buy the machine to make one.

I was about to write a similar comment. Looks like the shop that I have build hydraulic hoses.

Me too. This is a hydraulic shop, not my garage.

I made a die&punch with a grinder, and let my local locomotive roll over it

The cost of the equipment is far too expensive to be cost effective for the average homestead/small farm. Maybe the title should be something in the order of how your local hydraulic shop males up hoses. I think it would be quite helpful if someone made a video such as this using tools and equipment that is more in tune with the average homestead/small farm budget. I've seen a couple of such videos here on UA-cam but the people making the videos neglected to provide information about the tools or where they can be purchased. I've checked out several online hydraulic parts and tools suppliers, but they all seem to only offer expensive, professional shop equipment. Looks like for the time being, we're stuck with cheesy, Chinese, Big Ag Box store, off the shelf replacements with expensive adapter fittings.

Totally disagree. I am lower middle class. Especially with a family of 9. These hoses cost around $35 to get made. Not ridiculous at all. It will last me a long time. I have a 21 year old tractor. I take good care of it.
You can afford to live a great life of contentment on a small farm with a tight budget if you do it right. We've done it for almost a decade now.

Totally agree. The title is misleading. It makes it seem as though he's going to show how to make a hydraulic hose at home - like the average person can do it. He then makes a hose with high-dollar equipment.

@@TheCookFamilyHomestead I think you're missing the point. He's not saying the hoses cost too much to get made, but that the equipment to make them with is too expensive, and the video title makes it seem as though the video is about making hoses at home. By the way, I like the video; it was informative, but, it doesn't show how the average person can make hoses.

@@billsmith7673 The title says "How to make a hydraulic hose for your bucket". Where would you get that I'm making home made hoses? Maybe I'll change the title to "How a hydraulic hose is made for your bucket".....would that make you happy?

@@TheCookFamilyHomestead not trying to be a jerk, but I thought it was being made at home too. However, I definitely found value in your video. I bought a used Gates hose press ($2000) and have another $1000 or so in some hydraulic hose and fittings, and I still need a bench, reels, cutoff saw, etc; so probably another $500-600.

Appreciate the video but you crimped it wrong. The stem should have been fully under the die. You left some on top and it mushroomed. I was taught to put to stem end (the end where the hose goes in at) under the die by about 1/16" just for good measure. That way the entire stem gets crimped. But hey, now I know what it looks like when someone mushrooms one! Thanks again!

Nope....you are incorrect. This is 100 percent correct. I run a hydraulic hose shop. This is an Aeroquip fitting. The crimp is to start at the line that is grooved at the top of the fitting. That is the purpose of the grooved line. This is a textbook crimp. If you go above that line, you can distort the hex below the fitting made to put a wrench on to hold when tightening. ALL fittings should be crimped just below where the fitting starts to round as that is where the hose inside ends.
I love how people, like you, who have zero training in hydraulics, tell me who has made 1000's of hydraulic hoses and has extensive knowledge of hydraulics, that you know better. LOL.

    • @2001BornAgain
      @2001BornAgain Рік тому

@@TheCookFamilyHomestead zero training yet just made an observation that only trained people would know. I work with Gates fittings. And in order to make the crimp right, you need to place the fitting 1/16” below the top of the die cast.
So no, your crimp isn’t textbook unless it’s the page that has a picture of your crimped fitting with a red circle and a red line through it.
Mushrooming the head pulls the metal away from the hose being crimped. What good mechanical purpose is there in mushrooming? Make a video so I can send it to the trainers at Gates.

@@2001BornAgain you work with Gates fittings? Who cares. I work FOR Aeroquip fittings. This is a perfect crimp for an Aeroquip fitting. I've crimped thousands. Not going to argue with you. You are ignorant. If you don't like it feel free to go troll someone else.
