    Very cool Eric. We don't see a lot of honing videos involving a antique barber's hone these days. Have you tried using your ILR technique with it yet?

    • @AdventuresInWetShaving
      @AdventuresInWetShaving  5 років тому +2

      Stephen that's an interesting suggestion using the under the running water technique on this barber's hone! ;) I'll have to give that a go! Yeah Buddy!

    What do you use to oil your strops. I am looking forward to see the Sunday shave.
    I have a Straight Razors that was sharpened by Dr Matt. All I have done is to strop the razors before I shave and I still get good shaves I think I will hone them before I shave again. P. S. He finished them with a coticul

    • @AdventuresInWetShaving
      @AdventuresInWetShaving  5 років тому +1

      Great question Eldon! ;) Normally I'll use my homemade razor wax on my strop to condition the leather.
      I can't wait the try this barber's hone edge on the Sunday #SOTD it should be interesting.
      Dr Matt really can sharpen a razor nicely! ;) Yeah Buddy! Most of the time he does use a Coti to finish with. You should be able to get a lot of shaves from a well honed straight razor just by stropping it before every shave. Possibly hone one of your razors and then you'll have something to compare your new edge to. Please let me know how you get on with your straight razor.
      Thanks for your great question and comment, and thanks for watching! ;) Have a good weekend and take care, my friend! :) #Heart

    Nice video thanks for sharing.. Just a tthought any chance of seeing pictures from under the microscope before you hone and after you hone the razors ?..

      That's a great idea Demogorgon! ;) I'll give it a go in the next honing video! Which should be an interesting one as I'm going to try to shave after each stone to see what's the lowest grit stone for shaving comfortably.
      Thanks for your great suggestion and encouragement, and thanks for watching! :) Take care and have a good weekend, my friend! :) #Heart

    I see Eldon at the bottom of the comments mentions a coticule. Is the ILR the easiest to use of the three finishers?
    I got an ILR on order but curious over what is the easiest finishing stone.
    Currently i shave off a 12k shapton and chrom ox strop..
    Great video Eric...

    • @AdventuresInWetShaving
      @AdventuresInWetShaving  5 років тому +1

      Great question Luigi! ;) The ILR will be the easiest to use especially using the under running water (you can see this technique in my honing videos). I normally run all the way up the honing progression to the Shapton 12k and then finish with the ILR for a wonderfully smooth edge, but you could stop at the 8k as well and finish on the ILR. Please let me know how you like your ILR and how you get on with it.

    Have you tryed killing the edge and seeing if that stone can bring it back ??.

    • @AdventuresInWetShaving
      @AdventuresInWetShaving  5 років тому +1

      Another great question Demogorgon! ;) Haven't tried killing the edge and seeing if this barber's hone can actually bring back the edge. That's might be and interesting test ;) #Heart

    Great video my friend! Can't wait to see if this works. It would be interesting to know what grit this hone is. Maybe 6k? Have a great weekend brother!

      Martin, we're hoping against hope that's this works... it will be a good one for sure! ;) Yeah Buddy!
      It would be very interesting to find out what the approximate grit rating is on this stone.

    • @AdventuresInWetShaving
      @AdventuresInWetShaving  5 років тому +3

      Great question Jill! ;) Normally I'll use the ILR under running water, but you could certainly give it a go won't hurt a thing.

      Actually, I should've mentioned without the lather on it as the Barber's Hone to touch up my edge.

    • @AdventuresInWetShaving
      @AdventuresInWetShaving  5 років тому +1

      Jill you'll find the ILR is a very hard and slow cutting stone so it's better as a finishing stone. If your edge isn't to far gone your ILR possibly could work to touch up your edge. Please let me know how it goes... I'm very interested in your results. #Heart

      @@AdventuresInWetShavingI hadn't heard the term "Barber's Hone" before this so don't know if it is a special stone or what. There was no link for one in your info. Please explain for me.

    • @AdventuresInWetShaving
      @AdventuresInWetShaving  5 років тому +1

      This is a vintage barber's hone from eBay... it would have been used mainly by barber's back in the day. It's kind of a novelty and I've gotten a lot of request to try one. But the best way to sharpen a straight razor is to go from bevel set through the all the progressions to a finish stone. Hands down the best edge you'll be able to get on a straight razor. #Heart
