Niki, Alain, Ayrton, Murray and James. Unbelievable 4 of these Legends are already gone. It brings a smile to my face knowing that the 201X Niki battled with Senna at some point.
3 things that I wanna point out: 1- You gotta give it to the reflexes of drivers in the past, not a single one colliding with Nelson Piquet at the start despite him being stalled in Pole Position. 2- Lauda and Prost's aggressive maneuvers putting their wheels into the grass when trying to overtake someone, comes to show how different cars handled back then. 3- The Legendary Podium: Lauda, Prost, Senna, just a 💯👌🏼...
Sorta sadly, entering 1986 Mclaren signed 1982 World Champion Keke Rosberg, who decided to retire at the end of 1986 like Niki did in 1985. In Keke's Final race he also lead and retired. Weird how things happen.
That had to be absolutely spectacular to be there at that time and being a Marshall, being able To walk in the garage and look at the cars, and then when it came down to race you went to your position. That would’ve been Epic!!
It was a great weekend. I’ve also marshalled at Pau, Le Mans several times, Zolder, Spa (and played cricket on race day morning at the old bus stop chicane, plus Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Oulton Park. Then marriage came along and life changed. Went to Silverstone this year for the first time in over 30 years.
Nah come on, jokes aside FIA was already annoying, you could get disqualified for anything like a car too wide, some fuel regulation,... The worst part is that FIA was really slow back then and you could be disqualified like 3 months after the race
@@miriamreiss mordern tyres are much harder and would last multiple races probably. modern cars put much more energy into the tyres which is why they are so hard compared to in the past. although i dont think these cars would be able to put enough energy into the tyres to heat them up so they might just remain cold and shred the surface instead.
Hearing the names of those racing and realizing that these were the legends of their time. The same people that our current F1 legends listened to. Is shocking. And honestly they should do a parade lap for the ones that have died since then who raced this very circuit
The way I see it it's the best driver of the 70's (Lauda), the best driver of the 80's (Prost) and the best driver of the 90's (Senna) all racing together in 1985. Lauda was at the end of his career. Prost was in the middle of his career. Senna was at the start of his career. Pity Senna's career was tragically cut short for I believe he would still be racing in 1997-1998. I also think he would have won at least two more titles. If Senna raced as long as Kimi Raikkonen he would still be in F1 in 2002...

I never considered Prost to be the greatest. But his achievements are really something, considering the competition at that time. Senna, Lauda, Mansell !
Also interesting that you consider Mansell stiff competition. Prost thrashed him at Ferrari in 1990, and what did Nigel do, he started whining of course. Mansell is one of the most overrated drivers in F1’s history. Couldn’t even beat De Angelis over the course of four years together. Beaten by an injured Piquet in ‘87. Derek Warwick was a driver far more deserving of praise than Nigel. Ayrton Senna was scared of Derek, he was never intimidated by Mansell, hence why they got on. Ayrton knew he could easily beat Nigel.

That's because Prost never had the hype or propaganda around him like others, and was choosen as the "enemy" of Senna. Only recently people are starting to analyze the 80s and early 90s, finally giving him the credit he deserves. In my opinion Prost is without a doubt the best of his era, won more races, titles, with two different manufacturers, had 5 world champions as team-mates and beat them all, most straight dominated by him. He also has a very solid case for being the greatest overall.
Man things were so different then. It’s unbelievable. And it just shows how much better the wheel to wheel racing has gotten and how much closer the field is in time and pace. I love this new erra I can’t wait to see the next gen cars man. So exciting.

Another reason was that he really had to spend more time with his airline Lauda Air and this meant that racing was out of the question.

Next time we don't have a proper GP, it would be nice to see one like this, specially for those who never had the opportunity. After so many years, it's so interesting to see Prost and Lauda in a big fight. It seems that Prost judged Lauda as already retired from F1 and Lauda showed that he was still the champion. In podium, the smiley face of Lauda with Senna looks like he had a lot of fun in the race. The last win of Lauda became one of the greatest memories of his career. Thank you for all, Niki Lauda! 🙂
Before refueling was banned pitstops still took around 8-10 seconds. Just changing tires is no sweat, but you can't refuel a 120 liter fuel tank very fast. If they ever re-introduce refueling of cars you will see the pit stop times increase dramatically again.
They couldn’t give us race highlights for the Belgian gp, but this was a pleasant surprise
