    Downsizing was extremely hard at first - then it became extremely easy and pleasurable. Hard to imagine going from 3K sqft to 400 sqft but we did. You have the will and you will find the way.

      I too have been through this exact same situation...the time crunch, going from SC to PA, having to go from a small (500 sq ft) home, to whatever I could pack into a pickup truck and a small tow-behind Uhaul, along with 1 one large dog, 3 cats, one adult driving, and myself. Downsizing is rough at first, but once you get going, you'll be wanting to clean out your entire neighborhood, lol. Good luck with the sales!

      Ditto. We did the same when leaving Texas. I even left my old chop saw and contractor table saw behind, as well as my dad's old steel and wooden drafting desk. Boy that was hard.

    Go for it guys! Yep sell all you can. Much cheaper and easier to offload, and then have the fun of building the new shop when you find the new place. Silver lining, all that new content that will be possible fitting out the new place! Also, it's great to purge. As you said, there will be timber (and tools) in Michigan. No need to haul things across the countryside unless they are irreplaceable. 😁

    I would consider a pull behind camper and load it with what you're taking. A motorhome I am afraid will be problematic along the trip considering you would have to purchase a older one. It will all work out. Praying for the best for you both.

      Appreciate the comment and that was our logic for a bit too, but what we found was a tow vehicle was equal to price of a decent older RV or even more. One of the RV's locally(inset pic in video) has a new motor with less than 1K miles, new tires, 6.5K generator etc, so actually to compare a 20 year old dodge with 180K miles for the same price was somewhat obvious to me.
      I can probably get the RV for less than 5 grand compared to a high mileage truck for 7 grand(pic inset in video)
      3 months ago the local market was flooded with cheap campers, but it is hunting season and they are all snatched up now because lots of people are camped up in the mountains using them.

      @@MakinSawdustI thought you already owned a tow vehicle my mistake. I have seen in our area on the east coast motorhomes and campers are through the roof on pricing. We can all make suggestions but yours is ultimately all that matters. Don't forget take time to breathe.

    I know time is of the essence Kevin, but would finished projects and value-added creations be a better use (and faster seller) of the wood? Vintage coffee tables, distressed wood barn doors, etc....those would eat up a TON of wood and dang would they sell too. Make 3-4 projects over the course of 2 weeks, have triple the $$ vs the raw wood, more video content, more "portfolio pictures", more enjoyment, and most of the wood gone?

    • @MakinSawdust
      @MakinSawdust  3 роки тому +2

      I wholly agree with the projects, vs lumber aspect and I am actually doing just that. Some of my hoard is a slew of unfinished projects that I hadn't finished for one reason or another. Usually a paying customer came along and I stopped the 'side project'. These are the ones I am finishing up :)
      I am always so pleased when you stop by and share your time by watching and commenting :) Thanks friend.

    Inventory reduction! Just think of the fun you will have building it back up again on the other end. Can you rent a U-Haul trailer?

    Glad to see you're making progress on the lumber pile. you mentioned FB; have posted the same ads on craigslist, too? you might get exposed to a few new customers. Good luck on your vehicle and trailer shopping.
    And you're right about 5-1/2 years ago. The Detroiter days are long behind you. Good luck and Godspeed on your voyage to MI
