    As an audio engineer for forty years I appreciated your simple explanations of what could have easily been over explained. Audio, like lighting can make, break or take your haunt to the next level and beyond. Hopefully you have inspired the masses to give it a try. Another great, and appreciated, video. Thank you.

    I really got the depth when I head the church bell tolling and then you blew me away with the crow flying by giving the feeling of actual movement!

    Ok. Just when I thought my set up was complete you go and blow my mind with the addition of audio. After watching I marveled, “Just when I thought Derek couldn’t find another video to make about layers he blows my mind!” Amazing as always sir!

    How did you know I just sat down at my computer and got overwhelmed with learning how to throw together a quick soundtrack for my home haunt this year?
    This video came at the exact perfect time I cannot even begin to explain to you how coincidental and mind blowing the timing on this was.
    Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!!!!!

    Neat! Infrasound-any frequency at or below 19Hz-cannot be HEARD by humans but can definitely be FELT. It tends to make people feel unsettled and uncomfortable. One would probably require specialized playback equipment to include infrasound in one’s haunt but if you have the money, it will probably be an investment you won’t regret. So, Derek: you’ve managed to cover the senses of sight, sound, and touch. Looking forward to seeing how you incorporate taste and smell into your haunt! Burning or rotting flesh, perhaps?... Wishing you a wicked Hallowe’en this year!

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  3 роки тому +1

      Haha. No smells in our haunt. Mrs. VanOaks is very sensitive to smell, so it's an avenue we'll likely never go down.

    THANK YOU! I have been working in an uneducated fashion to create this depth in a much more convoluted way. I think lighting and sound often have a bigger impact than the quality of the props themselves. Keep these kinds of videos coming!

      I use inexpensive outdoor rated speakers. I have a variety of brands. They're all about the same. Spending a lot of money on speakers isn't a high priority for me, so I've always gone the affordable route.

    This is great! I have mixed my sounds and music using audacity for years. I've done left to right panning and messing with the volumes to try for a 3d effect but it ain't easy on audacity. This would make it so much easier and less time consuming. Thanks for this I will have to look in to this software especially since I want to improve my sounds this year.

    A useful additional trick is to take the same sounds, add some echo, delay them a bit and turn the amplitude way down. This audio can then have its source placed off in the distance as the echo of the main stuff.

    Great video, learned something new. Years ago it was either a cassette or cd for audio options, aging myself there. What are you using for speakers in the the yard. Wired or wireless? Wired I have found amplifiers on Amazon with SD/USB inputs. Wireless not sure where to start with hub for multiple Amazon Echos I already own. Thanks!

    • @VanOaksProps

    This was such an amazing and easy tutorial! As all of your tutorials are. :)
    A dream of mine is to make a haunt like Halloween Horror Nights. I love how they incorporate sound and lighting effects with their scares. The closest thing I can find that can replicate this scare would be the PicoBoo Controllers at Fright Props. Would you consider making a tutorial on how to make a scare with lighting and sound like HHN using these tools (or any other ones you have in mind)? Super appreciate all your amazing content!

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! I'll see what I can do. Our haunt is more atmospheric, so I don't have any triggered scares, but if Monster Guts or Fright Props wants to send me some picoboo's I'm sure I could come up with a project.

    As always, your Skill level is in the Insane region, Having said that However, A couple of speakers in the planter, or covered with burlap in the yard, is hardly going to reproduce a 3D type of sound you are teaching us about. I bet its sounds amazing with headphones on, but with a thousand trick-or-treaters that we get at are haunt, that would be logistically problematic. I use Audacity (freeware) it does everything we need for are multitrack playback in all zones of our haunt. Again, Thanks for your time on this, Your videos give us all the confidence to tackle any task....

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  3 роки тому +1

      Agreed. It will, however, create a feeling of movement for the non-casual haunt visitor. I mean, let’s be honest, trick or treaters rarely care about all work. Lol

  • @JohnJesensky
    @JohnJesensky 2 роки тому

    Not trolling - legitimate question - I've always been under the impression that Binaural Audio really only works when you are wearing headphones, since the cups are basically acting as your "ears to the world" and the cross contamination from separated speakers (anything not headphones) pretty much nullifies the effect. Did you find this to be the case?

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  2 роки тому +1

      That's true, although I found that using binaural software definitely gave my audio presentation a better feeling of movement. So while it's not exactly binaural, it was the best way I could think of to describe it (rather than just calling it "stereo")

    • @JohnJesensky
      @JohnJesensky 2 роки тому

      @@VanOaksProps awesome! Yeah that makes sense - every little bit helps. Id imagine that if you were doing the soundscape for a narrow scene where speaker placement can be opposite but still tight, it would probably go a long way with binaural mixing as well. Thanks for the answer!!
