  • By far the toughest fish of the day I landed. Good thing a fellow angler was behind me watching and waiting to help with his net. RIGHT ON TIME! p.s. Make sure to change your video quality to 1080 it seems to default at lower quality sometimes.

Thanks. I live here for almost 10 years before I realized there were trout this far south. On top of the trophy streams, there are also many many miles of wild and native fishing as well.

What a fight i have some San Juan but never fished them much. I use a mop fly or stone fly most of the time mixed in with streamers. I will have to try them an see how they do. Great video

Looks like you use a yarn indicator. Do you cut it down any and also do you add floatant to it? Been beng watching you videos there great. Fished duke's about two weeks ago for the first time and got skunked, going back in two weeks. Just subscribed look forward to more.

Sometimes white yarn sometimes white foam football style indicator. yarn is definitely the most sensitive indicator I've used. I generally don't cut them unless they are just really big. I do used some floatant. I'll be at Duke's March 2nd with my dad who's coming down from PA. Might try to get on before then. Thanks for the sub.

What rod, reel, and line are you using?

Hey Jack. Sorry for the delay in response. I use a 9 foot 5 weight Redington rod with a Sage reel. I cant remember the brand of fly line I have on. It was 45 bucks at bass pro shop and its ok but not supper impressed. I will be looking for a better line. For leader I have 3x super strong plus nylon Orvis for about 2 to 3 feet then I blood knot tie on 5x Orvis line to make a total of 9 to 11 feet of leader. If no rain for days and stream is crystal clear I do about 3 feet of the 5x after the 3x then the rest 6x. The small tippet makes for a tough fight and some break offs but many more hook ups. This particular stream is a trophy managed stream so if its stained I will go with the heaviest line I can. But when I fish true wild back woods streams I always go to a 6x tippet. Nothing like a good fight.
