I mod my cameras to be full-spectrum. That gives me the option to use a whole range of IR filters to achieve different looks. A conversion with a fixed filter is a bit limiting.
Full spectrum is way more versatile - I had my NEX7 modded to full spectrum a few years ago and the guy who did the mod supplied a IR cut filter that fits inside the lens mount in front of the sensor so the camera can still be used for normal photography. Or it can be used with coloured filters mounted in front of the lens for interesting effects, or IR filters for images like shown in this video.
Did micro four nerd, snappines, and you get together to try to make me try infrared photography. If so you all are doing a wonderful job. This looks so cool. These pictures look like an amazing lisa frank explosion and i love it.
Ha ha ha, I guess infrared photography is the new trend of the moment... Emily from Micro Four Nerds also did a video on this topic a few days ago. Good job Tom. I hope you enjoy your new home in Calgary, by the way, it would be cool to do a video featuring Chris Nicholls, if you can get to him. 😉
I know! I messaged Emily and said that great minds must think alike 😅 Thanks! I'll be sure to see if Chris and Jordan are willing to tarnish their reputations and feature in a future video. Who knows, they might be crazy enough to do it!? 🤣
1:55 I had to say the same, just buy an IR-filter (even the stock filter in front of the sensor to block some of the IR light). In this kind of photography you have to think about the exposure, it has to be quite looooonger... :)
I was under the impression that a converted camera would result in faster images. Thank you for setting me straight on this before wasting my money. I use an 82mm filter, which covers most of my lenses using step rings. Cheers for the vid.
Infrared light causes more diffraction due to the wave length. Use of f11 at your photographs is too much on a crop sensor of Fuji. You'll get sharper images at f5.6 or f4. I was surprised with the results by myself. Give it a try if you will
I like your videos because you ALWAYS try the stuff that I always wanted to do (but I'm too scared/not convinced yet). And the information you give is ALWAYS more than I need. Thanks man!❤
Oh darn it Tom, I sold my M1 last week. If I’d known this video was coming out, I’d waited. We all know what your videos do to the second camera market 😂

Honestly, yes. I made the mistake of getting one modded only to IR. Will be getting the next one modded to full-spectrum.

how do you do that
Those pictures really look like something out of a fairy tale.
Cool, isn't it?
@@TomCalton yeah!

Haha! Maybe... 👀😅

I'd love for you to show us a bit more of your new home via a photo 'walkabout'.

these are very interesting! would love to see more camera moded content if that even something that people do lol
So this let's us see the colors that we can't see with our eyes? So cool.
Pretty much, yeah!
Your camera reviews are great. I would like to see you review the Fujifilm X70. Thanks! Also, keep up the good work 👍👍👍
You need to compare it to Fujifilm XE2, it has beautiful dial design, better LCD resolution and evf. Also the price is not too much different

Can't wait for the next version (X-M5) according to rumors, it could by the end of this year.
I WAS JUST TRYING TO DO IR PHOTOGRAPHYYY
How did you get on?
I really like how the photos look coming out of mine. I usually grab it over my XT-5 lol
Portraits look good in infrared imo. The skin becomes marble and blonde hair becomes blue. But eyes look a bit dead sometimes.

Ektachrome is back... In digital
Hey Tom what other cameras would you recommend to have this mod done to
Honestly, just about any old camera with a decent sized sensor would be good. An old Sony (a5xxx or NEX range) would also be a good choice.
Got the X-M1. Not sure I want to convert it though 😬
I do not like cameras that do not have an EVF ! Btw, it is not about the camera, it is the person behind the camera that matter...
Knew it, fujifilm has so many great under(known)rated cameras
Could you give xt1 fuzifilm please pplease please because i don't have camera to capture memory in $150 i have
No more money .
I taught we said goodbye tom
Goodbye to you
Did you actually watch the video?
@@TomCalton I didn't , cause I knew it's clickbait
