At least this wasn't the infamous "My humble homelab" video where the person has more gear than a good portion of smaller businesses with 4 fully filled racks sitting in their own climate controlled room.
Love these kind of videos! Cool to hear about your journey - where you've been, where you are, and where you think you're headed. Makes my inner project manager happy
I live in California. Power rates are awful. I’ve downsized my home lab into Intel NUCs and raspberry pi5. Footprint reduce tremendously along with power consumption.
Great video! Nicely explained what it is about. A lot of gear to play with, I'm jealous. Only thing that is strange is referring to Storage Array as SAN. It can be a part of a SAN but without fiber-channel backbone it is just regular server, even you mentioned what is a SAN in showing DELL server, separate network just for storage. And 3D pritner farm ... now I'm super jealous.
Great video. Gave me some great ideas on what to look for and what I want to do. I'm not so much a network guy , just a miner that wants to get into more AI stuff and diversify myself and gear. Thanks again for the video!!!
Hehe, the usual setup is three used Dell servers (mixed models), used Cisco switch, Synology, Promox with Kubernetes on it. Just to run Plex and HomeAssistant 😀
typically it's just easier and looks tidier in the end. No special tools required. I use them on my rack. plus i use different colored keystones that immediately alert me as to the vlan i have on each port.
I've never used TP link. Is TP good. I would think with all the $$ in graphics cards you could afford 1,000$ in Unifi equipment. A couple switches, AP and UDM pro
@@davidweinknecht9713 I got a new Unifi dream router and a couple used access points for $300. Yes the 24 and 48 port switches are expensive but almost everything else is reasonable.
I had other GPU machines that I was renting out on Vast, but the power cost was to high to keep it going. After power, i was making like $100/mo and it wasn't worth the hassle.
Well I would say downsizing is a good idea. LOL That is a neat set up for sure. I went through that several years ago. I have access to clients discarded rack servers too. Our boneyard has dozens of old servers in it. What I learned after paying some absurd electric bills is that it was kind of silly for me to have that much stuff. So what is my home lab now? A Lenovo mini pc with a 2Tb SSD drive and Proxmox. Now I'm not doing any crypto mining so I get why you would want high end equipment for that. But for just experimenting with new configurations it works perfectly and my electric bill is much happier.
Overkill? Nah, I have a 3u patch panel and at least 3 switches in my rack. Through in a few 4u or 5u cases, pdu and you are done. It is surprisingly easy to fill up the whole 42u rack :-) You need a pull-out KVM console in that rack, though.
Your content is way too high for the most GPU miners i'm afraid lol Amazing batcave though, hat-off to you man, living the dreaming over there 🔥🚀 Have a great weekend and keep on extreme geekitude lol
DUDE...... RESPECT, talk about OLD SCHOOL...... All I's got in comparison is a ubiquiti System with managed Level 2 switches and 48TB Synology DS423+ non ECC NAS, naaah I dont do Crypto, I am lookin at getting an APC UPS, by the way man your UPS link goes to motorcycle gloves on amazon.
To paraphrase Hannibal Lecter: What does he do? What is the first and principal thing that he does? What need does he serve by having a Homelab? He Covets. How do we begin to covet? You suggest the next thing is to build something that shrinks power, memory, connectivity, increases speed ...............but to do what? What have you seen? What is it that you covet? Think about that and you will have your answer.
No proper router with intrusion protection and Geographical blocking? But makes sense, added to the fact that you need Windows for your crypto wallets.

Well the one your talking about isn’t a regular like us but a cto who knows what he’s talking about or managing
I have no idea what you are talking about! ;)
Labhome > homelab
it doesn't matter what you have - it matters what you do with what you have
Nice Rack *Giggity*
But one thing I really enjoy that you brushed by quickly was the LARGE WHITEBOARD! Thats what I need...
I actually have 2 of them next to each other. 3x4ft lol
@@GeekOfAllTrades well I have 0, 0ftx0ft & if my math is right an SA of 0ft^2 lollllll… I need it!

Honestly, starting the video by asking chatGPT what a home lab is gives the same vibes as starting an essay with a dictionary definition.
Does your UPS make sound while running from the grid?
Are the fans spinning?
the fans are spinning, and with minimal load on the UPS its pretty silent.
How much watts that beast is eating (heating lol)?? Is your crypto or solar system can cover that power consumption?
I live in California. Power rates are awful. I’ve downsized my home lab into Intel NUCs and raspberry pi5. Footprint reduce tremendously along with power consumption.
That's what I'm thinking I will do as well.
Start some videos on power optimization, with meters on the boxes to show consumption, real data.
Very nice, but where did you get your Reduxio HX550 from? I've been looking since I seen your reel come out I can't see them anywhere.

Nicely done 👍
Is a coupler style patch panel better than a punch down style? I've used both but never really put any thought into it.
typically it's just easier and looks tidier in the end. No special tools required. I use them on my rack. plus i use different colored keystones that immediately alert me as to the vlan i have on each port.
In for so solid action video.
What's your fiber speed/s going into the home DC?
Like your gaming setup with 4 monitors. Been thinking about my dual M setup and add more
did take all these parts with u when u moved?
Saw the 12G, who had it first? You or CraftComputing?

TP Link with Omada is just fine for home use and small businesses. No need to spend the type of money Unifi requires.
@@davidweinknecht9713 I got a new Unifi dream router and a couple used access points for $300. Yes the 24 and 48 port switches are expensive but almost everything else is reasonable.
Wicked Awesome. Love it! 😊 😊😊
Damn. Nice Rack 🤰🐐
Giggity
I am looking to get an R730. so if you decide to let go of one. maybe we can make a deal?
Why not rent your hardware out to VAST AI or create your own web hosting with cPanel?

You are so correct I prefer nested virtualization for my home lab.
