There is no thematic inconsistency with the TMNT content. Turtles in Time (i.e., transported to feudal Japan) is the 3rd live action movie. They absolutely fit in with this pan-Asian theming.
It's like time travel or dimensional travel, if you're approaching it from the side of the time travel or dimensional travel, then it makes sense. But if you're approaching it from the side of someone who wanted a medieval theme, then it's out of left field. You can throw dimensional travel into a Harry Potter story and it makes sense.
@@BoardGameCo - It's a story about magic (fantasy) time travel to medieval Asia. Nothing about that violates the theme of an Asian medieval fantasy game with magic... I mean, we've never seen time travel over that long a time in Harry Potter (that I know of). But I would have said exactly the same about a Harry Potter expansion to Black Plague. If we're in a universe with magic, then a crossover with an IP that already contains magic time travel makes perfect sense from both ends... 🤷🏾
The TMNT is actually what sold me on getting this. Prior to seeing the TMNT, I was like, I have enough Zombicide (with Marvel coming soon), I am going to pass. Then I saw the TMNT and decided I needed White Death. I am not thrilled with all of the extra survivors that currently are not pulling me in... maybe once I get them, I will find I like the plethora of options. I did purchase a handful of survivor packs for Black Plague.
Im looking at this late and comparing this to DCeased (which is out now). I think the DC game is a better choice for me. I like the asian theme a lot but not sure why they mixed animal people as well. Idk. I also didn’t get Marvel except maybe retail.
I love BP & GH. So of course I need WD for the trilogy. Theme is all over the place, figures from multiple countries, cartoon characters, furies, gods, I think even anime. I personally think I’m going to be playing with the toons and furies. It’s a fantasy setting so why not. And yes, I backed Usagi Yojimbo, loved the comics, can’t imagine playing without him.
@BoardGameCo - what are your thoughts now the all in pledge has been revealed? Looks like we got extra zombies (yay) which I know you’d say is great for gameplay variation. I think the content is great even though the theme is a little “off” for me. For me it’s definitely worth backing. PS thanks for all your content, you’re the reason I got into ZBP in the first place 🎉
Thanks for this! I'm with you on the theme disconnect and that's really stopping me from backing this. I got 1 1$ pledge in just in case I change my mind. If one didnt back this KS, what game play changes do you recommend on keeping and incorporating with Black Plague? I know you already do a variation of the Necromancer and Abomination decks, but what else would you bring in from WD?
I was thinking about getting the Divine Beasts to get more abominations that seem unique, but I cooled a little after my initial I really want them. Not sure If I will get them or not at this point.
Marvel Zombies will be my first Zombicide, and thanks to my love of the comics, I'm much more excited about that one. I also really struggled with the thematic disconnect given how White Death was being advertised. Summer will be here before I know it and I'll have to find space for a ridiculous amount of Marvel minis. 😆 Plus, I have a feeling they'll get around to pirate Zombicide sooner than later.
Same here! Man, White Death looks cool. But I've got a BUNCH of Marvel Zombies coming in (it's my first Zombicide KS), and honestly, it might very well be my last, since the games DO play fairly similar to each other.
Shortly before this video was posted, they did announce the Massive Darkness 2 crossover buy-in. From the responses I could read about BP/GH Kickstarter re-releases, CMON apparently have said they were a "limited print run". So they probably won't be offered. I could be completely wrong and they could change their minds, but every time someone got a response to this, the response was basically, "Don't count on it".
At this point I am planning to get the core box, the extra zombies and the battlements. The other survivor packs look great, but as someone with far too much content for Massive Darkness (1 and 2), I will have plenty with the core box?
Thank you for the video and your thoughts on Zombicide: White Death. As a backer of (Zombicide) ”Marvel Zombies”” do you think that White Death is sufficiently different to warrant getting? Also, you mentioned that getting the Kickstarter Exclusives might be a good thing; with the Crossfire Pack being available at retail, would it not make more sense to hold of on that, and getting Crossfire later - probably at a discount at retail - instead of here, where it would also just add to shipping costs?
I really thought this would be my first zombicide. Sold as a sequel/expansion to BP considered the best it seemed a no brainer. I did like the core box but everything else not so much from the theme to the art etc... so I ended getting a retail copy of undead or alive lol found some long dead walkers and having a blast :p
I'm so unbelievably annoyed with the crossover pack for MD2... they make it only apply to stuff that'll be available at retail, but then make the crossover pack KSE...
@@BoardGameCo I have questions about the TMNT expansion... do I have to have White Death to play it, or can I snag it at retail and play it with Black Plague?

Should I just back every CMON game whether I plan to play it or not, at the base game level, and then sell the stretch goal box? Is that an effective use of my time? Core pledge + stretch goal box will sell for about $100 profit, right?
Is it worth all the bother? That’s up to you. But your logic holds. Backing at base to get the stretch goal box will usually be worth it if you are planning on reselling.
Is it worth it to own a zombicide game if I already own Cthulhu death may die (which I adore at 3-4 player, my usual player count) and Massive darkness II (which I don't enjoy as much at 3-4, seems fine at 2 but way too easy right now... seems like it would require a lot of house ruling to make it enjoyable). How does zombicide compares as far as difficulty? What's the best player count?
Not really. Cthulhu: Death May Die is a superior game system to Zombicide. And even that being said, this is a weird Zombicide. This feels like CMON was designing an Asian themed game that fell through, and they needed somewhere to use all the sculpts, so they pushed them into this Zombicide. Save your money and focus on Death May Die.
TMNT is the only reason I'm backing this. Every time a nostalgia heavy game hits KS (Marvel, MOTU, etc) a part of me has always wished that it was TMNT instead. I had so many TMNT toys when I was a kid! Can't wait, thanks for the advice!
Massive Darkness 2 crossover is confirmed. It still doesn't convince me to go in, went all in on MD2 and Most of Green Horde (with the MD cross overs). There's enough content there to last forever and I told myself I would not back anymore CMON until Trudvang delivers. I might pick up the turtles and MD2 cross-over kit from the secondary market if it isn't too pricey, having the Turtles in MD can only be a net positive.
Today I saw they released the Massive Darkness crossover, just as you said; sadly no old content, I dont understand why, I would love to get something from blackplague, maybe some special guest etc.

This Zombicide campaign is not great. The only thing that keeps me in it is that I somehow like the miniatures of the basegame zombies and guards and maybe the berserkers. I even doubt that the wall defense gameplay is good. I really didn't wish for the Asian stuff and especially not in this mish-mash kind of way. I have no use for most of those Asian miniatures and don't know to what origins they refer to. The worst thing about it is that it prevents CMON from doing a true Samurai Era Zombicide later down the line. It's sad. Not sure why CMON shoots themselves in the foot. It looks like they are scraping the bottom of the barrel although they don't have to because there are so many possibilities to make a good Medieval Fantasy Zombicide campaign with a focused theme (Samurai, Pirates, Vikings, GoT, Black Plague 2nd Edition, ...). It's actually hard for CMON to do badly because people buy anything they put on KS, but somehow they managed to suck this time. The campaign could easily have 1-2 million more if it had a focused theme and better gameplay. It looks like "White Death" could come out under UoA and that is pretty bad for a Medieval Fantasy Zombicide campaign because UoA was pretty niche and had less content, so that even CMON expected less success for it back then and was surprised when it slightly overperformed.
I don’t even have to watch the video to know that you shouldn’t back white death if you haven’t played any zombicide system. Cheaper price points to get into the zombicide game with other versions.
We decided our first one is Undead or Alive and its amazing. White Death seems ok, but I dont like the asian theme to much. Also I think the corebox having only 6 Survivors is annoying. So defiantly one I will get later at retail and next buy will be undead or alive expansion
This campaign has been really weird. It's like somebody at CMON got mixed up and released the wrong stretch goals, as the core game and the unlocks seem so disconnected. Normally the KS exclusives and the added gameplay they bring would make a pledge worthwhile but here there are far too many survivors, of which very few are actually all that interesting. I was glad to see the MD2 Crossover pack released ........ until reading that it doesn't include cards to crossover any of the core enemies as mobs, instead giving you cards for enemies trapped in two of the addons. It's a joke
I'm still not happy with most of the stretchgoal characters and the whole asian martial arts etc. I hoped that they would have stuck with a more reasonable cast of characters but that's CMONs descion

We decided our first one is Undead or Alive and its amazing. White Death seems ok, but I dont like the asian theme to much. Also I think the corebox having only 6 Survivors is annoying. So defiantly one I will get later at retail and next buy will be undead or alive expansion
Undead is incredible, a good choice
I’m guessing you meant “definitely”, and not “defiantly”, right?
Gonna pass the amount of add-ons they have is ridiculous.
It's a joke
The answer is "no".
Slow down… breath… in… out…
You’re speaking so fast it’s hard to hear what you’re saying.
I think this might have the best gameplay with the worst theme
I'm still not happy with most of the stretchgoal characters and the whole asian martial arts etc. I hoped that they would have stuck with a more reasonable cast of characters but that's CMONs descion
