I think you make an absolutely good point, I really wish that Sega would use Sally in the games, that would make an awesome game in my opinion. We should make a petition for Sega to start using ideas and characters from the comics to create better Sonic game story-lines.

Sega cant use characters exclusive to the comic series because Archie Comics owns them, not Sega. Sega would have to get licensing rights on the comics in order to be able to use the characters.

I needed this... I've got hope for Sonic now. I always knew about the comics, but I've never had an opportunity to read them. I'd give up shadow at this point to turn back the clock on all of Sonic Team's most recent adaptations.

Nice vid. I see how you look for a more interesting story, and that's exactly what the comics are for. It builds a continuing story. The universe from the comics and the Universe from the games are entirely different, so using them as a main source won't work. Yeah, they share some characters here and there. Also, to build a story like that of the comics will take an entire reboot since because of how long the characters in the comics have been around. They can't just pop up in the next game. Even so, it would take a large continuity through out the games which isn't really present. By that I mean once and adventure is done it's on to a completely unrelated adventure... But i guess we'd try or accept anything if it meant Sonic would be at the top again
you were a bit wrong on the part about Eggman coming back in the comics. The Eggman now was one of the alternate dimension Eggmans who conquered his world and came to Mobius prime to conquer it. The original Robotnik is dead. Other than that detail, everything else was right.

If you've read any interviews with the creators of the games in the last ten years, you would know that they HAVE listened to their fans. In fact, one could argue their fans are very much responsible for the state that Sonic is in now. Remember Shadow The Hedgehog (the game)? It was fan requests that led to Shadow having a gun. Remember Tails in Sonic Adventure 2? He originally wasn't even going to be in the game, but Sonic Team heard an outcry of Tails fans complain, so they included him last minute to (attempt) at satisfying the fans. Remember Sonic Unleashed's and the games afterwards? Sonic Team listened to the reviews, and realized that the general audience loved the day time stages, so they improved on that gameplay style (up until Lost World). Speaking of Lost World, that game was born from all of the "Boost to win" (a ridiculous claim) complaints. The problem here is, Sonic Team HAS been listening to their fans. But because the fanbase is so split, with so many differing ideas, the ideas Sonic Team has been borrowing from the fans only appeals to certain sections of the fanbase.
The reason why the don't make the games the way you discribed here is because the characters of the games are the original(CANON) characters from sega of JAPAN, NOT the AMERICAN versions... SALLY was an AMERICAN=NON CANON character.. The only NON CANON games ever made was Dr Robotnick's Mean Machine and Sonic Spinball... ;)

This guy is wrong on so many things, Amy was introduced around the same time as Sally with a month difference, Sonic doesn't date or marry because he's a free spirited hedgehog, not because of Sally he just doesn't get tied down. What type of shit is that anyway? Sonic isn't about drama, it's action, speed, challenge and epic stories. Hyper Knuckles and Super Tails were left behind in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, not left from the comics. Kuckles didnt knock Sonic out of his super form because he was "awesome" it's because he is the guardian of the master emerald and he can utilize chaos energy which is likely the reason he was able to knock Sonic out of his super form, chaos emeralds after all just like the master emerald use chaos energy. There's a main reason why a lot of the comic ideas weren't used, it's because they aren't original and they'd rather take a gamble on a story they have than some cliche'd comic story on which they'd have to get rights from the owner to use and losing profit that's getting shared with Archie while potentially failing. The comics have unoriginal designs that they don't want to use, female Sonic characters wear dresses not jackets exposing their fur, this was taught to you since Amy and then Tikal. The Archie character design is just furry with Sonic written on it. Although you are very wrong on a lot, I do want the whole Zonic the Zone Cop idea to be used because I personally like it. The original was Eggman not Robotnik, Robotnik is just some evil Eggman that was created by America, America switched his name to Robotnik although the original creators did not like the American changes to Sonic at all. Eggman's personality of the TV show and comics was not equal to his of the games so they just kept the name Dr Ivo Robotnik as another alias and his full name while Eggman as the nickname/what he goes by. Keep in mind that where these games are created are in Japan and they don't have the comics or the terrible American Sonic. Seriously man get your stuff right because you sound dumb as hell. If you're referring to Sonic characters reproducting then we have no idea how they would do so and we also have no idea of whether or not there are government laws there that pertain to them so it doesn't matter the age. Keep in mind that Sonic characters can be an age for however Sonic Team decides (meaning from age 15-16 they could become old men or adults but that's up to Sonic Team) so aging in their ages isn't really something rely on and based things to.
The American properties (aside from Penders' and Fulop's) belong to SEGA of America. It wouldn't hurt to make a game about them,but instead,SOJ is a bunch of racists who believe in Japanese supremacy instead of admitting when their American counterpart has surpassed them.

I have to agree. SEGA and Sonic team need to get some storylines from the comic. Why? Here why. 1.Amy is not Sonic's true love. It's Sally. 2.There are wonderful characters 3. And give great answer what's in Sonic true life.

This is so true. I've always wondered to myself why they never used Sally. Or Knack the Weasel. Or Ixus Naugus. Just imagine how awesome it would be if Ixus Naugus got into the games. Uh, no. There was going to be a game based on SatAM, but Sega didn't want the series to go in that direction (smart choice) and there will never be a Sonic game that takes place in the Archie series. because the AMerican and the japanese cannons are way too different and the archie series is dead.

As for the Robotnik Eggman thing... I'm sure many people know the answers behind that already. The comics had to make it overcomplicated because it's an overcomplicated on-going storyline. But for the games, Eggman has ALWAYS been called Eggman. Like... no really. The whole thing about Robotnik being his name in the manual for the U.S.? Well that's only in the manual. They don't speak in those games and Wing Fortress still said EGGMAN on it. And when they finally DID start speaking in the games they refer to him as Eggman. His real name being Robotnik. Meaning in the manual they're just referring to him by his real name. That's not what was originally planned. BUT, when they make a change to include both names in both regions and the line of games up til that point had only his name as Robotnik in the manual... it makes it easy to come up with that explanation. Anyhoo... after finishing the video I can't help but feel like the video gives off the vibe that the games are poorly based on the comics leaving out a bunch of "facts" about the character when it's actually the comics inspired by the games. o.O I'm sure he knows this but that's not how he portrays it. lol

Dude I totally agree with you, Sega and sonic team are getting lazy and unoriginal (*cue Blonic joke*) and they should incorporate ideas from the Archie comics. But not only that they should also incorporate ideas from the cartoons (except AoSTH) and the fleetway comics, even the more obscure sonic Mangas and Graphic novels. The games are missing out on good plot ideas that are still sponsored by Sega.

back when I was a Sega kid, the Sega Megadrive was my world Sonic the Hedgehog was the meaning behind it.Sometime after me dad came home from work one evening and gave me a comic book called Sonic the Comic, it had the 1st real origin story I was introduced to in comics at the time and it also had a story for the game, Revenge of Shinobi, it was awesome! I was way into the comics and every so often I would draw from the comics, kinda like tracing them but at the same time, not really, just look and draw it on a blank sheet of paper.There was 1 issue that opened out to reveal a huge poster and showed all the freedom fighters but it sadly go ripped up. Unfortunately at some point, my mother got rid of my Sonic the Comic collection, along with a carboard model based on Crash Bandicoot, as a Sonic fan, that was a dark day in my life, even after that when there was a music show in our town, I went to 1 of our news agents and saw an episode of Sonic the Comic with a Flickies story line but I past it up because I just couldn't pick up from where I last left off. Sonic the Comic is the ONLY comic I really ever wanted and my mother took it all from me but, hey such is life, at least she missed the 1st summer special of the comic that I still have to this very day!:) Good video man, it reminded me of better days and yes I do agree that some of these stories should have been in the games!

A sonic game based off the comics would be interesting, but the legal hurdles they'd have to jump through.... as for knuckles knocking sonic out of super form, personally I attribute that to knuckles catching sonic totally off guard.
It could have just been a freak accident. at the end of SA2 shadow loses his super form and for no apparent reason. and in that fight sonic and shadow have to go and gather rings every 30 seconds to maintain the form. maybe sonic didn't have many rings to begin with, and that blow depleted the little that he had. in the metal overlord battle taking hits depletes some rings, maybe that's what happened.
Also, it's easier said than done. They have to come up with a way to introduce all the new characters (if they just have them come in out of no-where it'll raise questions from people who know and don't know the characters), give them a more Sega look, make the models from scratch, learn and understand the characters, mind money in the budget for their voices, come up with some super amazing story, make all their animations if they become playable characters, somehow keep Sonic in the spotlight-

Then I started to play the classics and now I love sonic again😄
Scourge started off as evil Sonic, another sonic from an alternate dimension with a leather jacket and looked just like Sonic from the 90s up till a few years ago, where he adsorbed power, which changed his color, and he changed his name. He could be considered a recolor now, but considering his origins, it does serves a porpose. x)
It probably has to do with Sonic needing the seven emeralds to sustain his super form, and Knuckles having the power to command chaos emeralds, or something...there doesn't need to be an explanation though...retro games.
The "random fast paced aging" was explained as a retcon. Either that or Sonic was actually 11 at the time. That would explain the huge height difference between Classic and Modern Sonic.
I used to love the Sonic comics as a kid but I've always understood that the comic canon is different from the videogame canon. I prefer it when the latter has as little story as possible to be honest. I'm loving Sonic Generations right now and hope to see more games in this mold.
Well, Sega placed mandates on the Sonic characters for one thing, limiting Sonic team and Archie. In Sonic Heroes, they had reached their budget limit. Now Robotnik, he was originally supposed to be called Eggman, but America wanted him to have another name. Also, the Eggman with all those other Eggman suits is from another dimension, the one that got teleported was tricked into bringing that other dimension Eggman to his dimension, where the other dimension one took over his body.

Scratch and Grounder were in the Master System version of Sonic 2 as well as Dr Robotniks Mean Bean Machine and Sonic Spinball, these were released around the same time as the Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog cartoon. Sonic Spinball actually combined the two cartoons together and featured the entire SatAM cast as well as scratch and grounder.

I agree with Edward, they should stay in their own universes, plain and simple. Honestly the ONLY character who would ever have a chance to cross over to the games is Snively and that's only because he's a part of Eggman's family. But even then his appearance and time frame would most likely be changed drastically. They'd probably place him in the future with Silver and Blaze. And that concept alone is still far fetched in their eyes. Why? Because then people would want every character.

Thumbs up if you caught his mistake about robotnik's death. Robo-robotnik is from an alternate universe, the one cyber sonic came from. STH#19 and 22 would be his introductions for robo-buttnik. After being "Melted and destroyed" in #75 he was the one to download into another body, formally becoming the new Robotnik. The name Eggman has a long history and was incorporated properly if anyone looks it up on how the empire was then forged by the new Robotnik. Loved this. I'm a hardcore fan.

Because for some reason, SOJ decided to hold back info on Sonic's World, so SOA was forced to improvise. Also, Sonic was never popular in Japan anyway, so SOJ actually should give a care about our take on their mascot, because we're their biggest audience. If anything, Sonic is mainly popular in almost any country BUT Japan. x)
Robotnik was always Eggman in Japan. Translators didn't think Eggman was a good name, so they called him Doctor Ivo Robotnik. Yuji Naka, the man behind Sonic to begin with, has recognized that Doctor Eggman's full name is Doctor Ivo 'Eggman' Robotnik, even though the official japanese Sonic site claims Eggman's name is a mystery. Also, even though the Sonic comics were commissioned by Sega, the Archie (Comics)/DiC(SatAM) storylines are seen more as fan fiction, rather than canon. Instead, the original trilogy, CD, both Adventures, Shadow the Hedgehog, and both episodes of Sonic 4 are the only games that seem to have a connected canon. All of the other games seem to not care about previous stories.
I would say that you forgot by your listing of connected games a few like Battle that reverenced Amy's backstory form CD, Amy's and Gammer's friendship from adventure, the purpose space colony arc and Gerald's time during imprisonment and Rouge, Shadow's as Omegas Adventure from Heroes. Than is sonic Advance 3 directly continuing battles story with gemerld being build using emerls scans from battle as well as the few salvageable leftovers from Emerl Sonic heroes story is also over shadows mysterious re-appeared connected to shadow and adventure 2 so it is also connected. Also yes the Archie comics are not canon to the games but because there are official lizents calling them fan fiction is kind of wrong but beside this 2 things I agree with you.
As much as I agree with you on the Sonic games being more like the comics, the hard truth is that they cannot. Yuji Naka created Sonic the Hedgehog and went on to Sega of Japan to make his dream a reality. He wanted Sonic to be a brash, short-tempered speed demon who doesn't stop for anything. After a few months of Sonic 2's release the corporation, DiC decided to make a cartoon adaptation of the game since Sonic now had a sidekick, Tails. Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was made, but was nothing more than a slapstick comedy for kids and it wasn't received very well. Alongside AoStH was another Sonic cartoon simply titled, Sonic the Hedgehog, which later became known as Sonic SatAM by fans because it aired on Saturday mornings, rather than the weekdays like AoStH, also to differentiate the title from the games. SatAM was a darker, more deeper version of its comedic counterpart. It was also the debut of Princess Sally Acorn, Rotor, Antoine Bunny Rabbot and Snivly. This was the series that was watched more and kept airing long after AoStH's runtime had ended. Sadly, after two short seasons, the series was cancelled and never brought back to life again. However, due the the mysterious cliffhanger that was at the end of the final episode Archie Comics made it their duty to finish what DiC had started, And continuing the show of Sonic SatAM as a comic.The comic became enormously popular by Sonic fans and reader of other Archie comics eventually found themselves ordering subscription for the Sonic comics. The comic also introduced a wide variety of new characters, heroes and villains alike, and it brought life to the Sonic universe, but only the Sonic SatAM universe. The games are made in Japan and have zero relation to the comic adaptation. The only way for anything to be made from the comics to the games is if Sega buys the rights to their comics, stories and characters. Meaning that if that were to happen, more than likely, the comics would either cease or be changed dramatically to suit the Japanese audience. And although the characters and backstories from the comics would be canon, because Archie Comics no longer has the rights, they cant give you the story that they want and everything would be completely different. In my opinion. I'd like the Sonic games to take the route of what the comics are doing, but in its own way. if Sega buys the rights to the comics and includes everything the comic fans wanted, the Sonic fanbase will become more diverse than what it already is and nothing would ever be the same again.
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood was actually inspired by the Knuckles: The Dark Legion comics. For some reason, though, the game left out all the complex plot development and dumbed it down for the gamers, even changing the look and feel of the brand-new characters.
Another thing...Sonic Team may have lost their spark, but you know what? The stories in the Adventure games blew the comic series away. THAT'S what they need to get back to, a middle ground. Not overly dramatic, not overly cartoony, just cool and original. Eggman was VERY intimidating in those games, but not straight out evil like in the comics. He revealed a softer side in Adventure 2. It gave him what I call dimension, yet another thing he lacks in the comics.
The comics may be a side thing but i think the thing he was getting that they should take ATLEAST SOMETHINGS FROM THE COMICS you know make knuckles DO something in a story make him a badass again introduce scourge make him a villain or use turbo tails some things in comics can be used in the games as one way or another.
I AM SO GLAD I'm not the only one who thinks the comics are better (in the story and character development department) than the games. I love the games until it got to Sonic Adventure 2 (my favourite game: NO NOT BECAUSE OF SHADOW!!!, But the story itself got to me, but that's something for another day. All that bullshit about Sonic and Knuckles being roboticized, Sonic's love life, Sally, the Freedom Fighters, Scourge, that nonsense with Eggman and Sonic being an Orphan is all things that are made in the (now dead) Archie universe. all of that has nothing to do with the games. they are two different universes. that's why they have never (and will never) put Sally, the Freedom Fighters and other archie characters in the games. fact #2 : the comics, games and cartoons have different characters with different universe and designs (the comics universe, the 90s sonic cartoon universe, the game universe) so sega does not make games follow cartoons, the comics modified the story to make a version of their own story. so therefore, you would not expect the 90s cartoon characters like sally in present games
Fun Fact: Sally is the ONLY character SEGA has ever place Sonic in a relationship with, this was done at Sega World, a theme park constructed by SEGA where statues, merchandise, a clock, and even what is seen as throw away items such as plates and cups featured both characters. Yeah, Archie changed their story, personality, age and even origins and love life. Sonic is older than Amy who is older than Tails which all of them are younger than Knuckles. I find it funny since Classic Sonic is 10 and when he was in Sonic Generations, he met Modern Tails, who is 8 meaning Classic Sonic is still older than Tails which i find funny.
I think you make an absolutely good point, I really wish that Sega would use Sally in the games, that would make an awesome game in my opinion. We should make a petition for Sega to start using ideas and characters from the comics to create better Sonic game story-lines.

Sega cant use characters exclusive to the comic series because Archie Comics owns them, not Sega. Sega would have to get licensing rights on the comics in order to be able to use the characters.

Nice vid. I see how you look for a more interesting story, and that's exactly what the comics are for. It builds a continuing story. The universe from the comics and the Universe from the games are entirely different, so using them as a main source won't work. Yeah, they share some characters here and there. Also, to build a story like that of the comics will take an entire reboot since because of how long the characters in the comics have been around. They can't just pop up in the next game. Even so, it would take a large continuity through out the games which isn't really present. By that I mean once and adventure is done it's on to a completely unrelated adventure... But i guess we'd try or accept anything if it meant Sonic would be at the top again
you were a bit wrong on the part about Eggman coming back in the comics. The Eggman now was one of the alternate dimension Eggmans who conquered his world and came to Mobius prime to conquer it. The original Robotnik is dead. Other than that detail, everything else was right.

If you've read any interviews with the creators of the games in the last ten years, you would know that they HAVE listened to their fans. In fact, one could argue their fans are very much responsible for the state that Sonic is in now.
Remember Shadow The Hedgehog (the game)? It was fan requests that led to Shadow having a gun. Remember Tails in Sonic Adventure 2? He originally wasn't even going to be in the game, but Sonic Team heard an outcry of Tails fans complain, so they included him last minute to (attempt) at satisfying the fans.
Remember Sonic Unleashed's and the games afterwards? Sonic Team listened to the reviews, and realized that the general audience loved the day time stages, so they improved on that gameplay style (up until Lost World).
Speaking of Lost World, that game was born from all of the "Boost to win" (a ridiculous claim) complaints.
The problem here is, Sonic Team HAS been listening to their fans. But because the fanbase is so split, with so many differing ideas, the ideas Sonic Team has been borrowing from the fans only appeals to certain sections of the fanbase.

The reason why the don't make the games the way you discribed here is because the characters of the games are the original(CANON) characters from sega of JAPAN, NOT the AMERICAN versions... This guy is wrong on so many things, Amy was introduced around the same time as Sally with a month difference, Sonic doesn't date or marry because he's a free spirited hedgehog, not because of Sally he just doesn't get tied down. Hyper Knuckles and Super Tails were left behind in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, not left from the comics.
Kuckles didnt knock Sonic out of his super form because he was "awesome" it's because he is the guardian of the master emerald and he can utilize chaos energy which is likely the reason he was able to knock Sonic out of his super form, chaos emeralds after all just like the master emerald use chaos energy.
There's a main reason why a lot of the comic ideas weren't used, it's because they aren't original and they'd rather take a gamble on a story they have than some cliche'd comic story on which they'd have to get rights from the owner to use and losing profit that's getting shared with Archie while potentially failing. The comics have unoriginal designs that they don't want to use, female Sonic characters wear dresses not jackets exposing their fur, this was taught to you since Amy and then Tikal. The Archie character design is just furry with Sonic written on it.

The original was Eggman not Robotnik, Robotnik is just some evil Eggman that was created by America, America switched his name to Robotnik although the original creators did not like the American changes to Sonic at all. Eggman's personality of the TV show and comics was not equal to his of the games so they just kept the name Dr Ivo Robotnik as another alias and his full name while Eggman as the nickname/what he goes by. Keep in mind that where these games are created are in Japan and they don't have the comics or the terrible American Sonic.

If you're referring to Sonic characters reproducting then we have no idea how they would do so and we also have no idea of whether or not there are government laws there that pertain to them so it doesn't matter the age. Keep in mind that Sonic characters can be an age for however Sonic Team decides (meaning from age 15-16 they could become old men or adults but that's up to Sonic Team) so aging in their ages isn't really something rely on and based things to.

Sonic was doing great.then the dark age began,starting from sonic 06 and ending in Secret rings.then,Sonic Unleashed came along,(which according to the fan base *is the best sonic game so far*)which brought the franchise back to life.then black knight game,which was liked,but nothing too great.then colors came,then generations,then lost world.Colors and generations were great.lost world was just good.and now we're waiting for the upcoming game Sonic Boom,and the majority of the fan base thinks it's gonna be great,but it's not out yet so i guess we'll see.

As for the Robotnik Eggman thing... I'm sure many people know the answers behind that already. The comics had to make it overcomplicated because it's an overcomplicated on-going storyline. But for the games, Eggman has ALWAYS been called Eggman. Like... no really.
The whole thing about Robotnik being his name in the manual for the U.S.? Well that's only in the manual. They don't speak in those games and Wing Fortress still said EGGMAN on it. And when they finally DID start speaking in the games they refer to him as Eggman. His real name being Robotnik. Meaning in the manual they're just referring to him by his real name.
That's not what was originally planned. BUT, when they make a change to include both names in both regions and the line of games up til that point had only his name as Robotnik in the manual... it makes it easy to come up with that explanation.
Anyhoo... after finishing the video I can't help but feel like the video gives off the vibe that the games are poorly based on the comics leaving out a bunch of "facts" about the character when it's actually the comics inspired by the games. o.O I'm sure he knows this but that's not how he portrays it. lol

Dude I totally agree with you, Sega and sonic team are getting lazy and unoriginal (*cue Blonic joke*) and they should incorporate ideas from the Archie comics. But not only that they should also incorporate ideas from the cartoons (except AoSTH) and the fleetway comics, even the more obscure sonic Mangas and Graphic novels. The games are missing out on good plot ideas that are still sponsored by Sega.

back when I was a Sega kid, the Sega Megadrive was my world Sonic the Hedgehog was the meaning behind it.Sometime after me dad came home from work one evening and gave me a comic book called Sonic the Comic, it had the 1st real origin story I was introduced to in comics at the time and it also had a story for the game, Revenge of Shinobi, it was awesome!
I was way into the comics and every so often I would draw from the comics, kinda like tracing them but at the same time, not really, just look and draw it on a blank sheet of paper.There was 1 issue that opened out to reveal a huge poster and showed all the freedom fighters but it sadly go ripped up.
Unfortunately at some point, my mother got rid of my Sonic the Comic collection, along with a carboard model based on Crash Bandicoot, as a Sonic fan, that was a dark day in my life, even after that when there was a music show in our town, I went to 1 of our news agents and saw an episode of Sonic the Comic with a Flickies story line but I past it up because I just couldn't pick up from where I last left off.
Sonic the Comic is the ONLY comic I really ever wanted and my mother took it all from me but, hey such is life, at least she missed the 1st summer special of the comic that I still have to this very day!:)

It could have just been a freak accident. at the end of SA2 shadow loses his super form and for no apparent reason. and in that fight sonic and shadow have to go and gather rings every 30 seconds to maintain the form. maybe sonic didn't have many rings to begin with, and that blow depleted the little that he had. in the metal overlord battle taking hits depletes some rings, maybe that's what happened.
Also, it's easier said than done. They have to come up with a way to introduce all the new characters (if they just have them come in out of no-where it'll raise questions from people who know and don't know the characters), give them a more Sega look, make the models from scratch, learn and understand the characters, mind money in the budget for their voices, come up with some super amazing story, make all their animations if they become playable characters, somehow keep Sonic in the spotlight-

Then I started to play the classics and now I love sonic again😄
Scourge started off as evil Sonic, another sonic from an alternate dimension with a leather jacket and looked just like Sonic from the 90s up till a few years ago, where he adsorbed power, which changed his color, and he changed his name. He could be considered a recolor now, but considering his origins, it does serves a porpose.

The "random fast paced aging" was explained as a retcon. Either that or Sonic was actually 11 at the time. That would explain the huge height difference between Classic and Modern Sonic.

I used to love the Sonic comics as a kid but I've always understood that the comic canon is different from the videogame canon. I prefer it when the latter has as little story as possible to be honest. I'm loving Sonic Generations right now and hope to see more games in this mold.
Well, Sega placed mandates on the Sonic characters for one thing, limiting Sonic team and Archie. In Sonic Heroes, they had reached their budget limit. Now Robotnik, he was originally supposed to be called Eggman, but America wanted him to have another name. Also, the Eggman with all those other Eggman suits is from another dimension, the one that got teleported was tricked into bringing that other dimension Eggman to his dimension, where the other dimension one took over his body.

Scratch and Grounder were in the Master System version of Sonic 2 as well as Dr Robotniks Mean Bean Machine and Sonic Spinball, these were released around the same time as the Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog cartoon. Sonic Spinball actually combined the two cartoons together and featured the entire SatAM cast as well as scratch and grounder.

Honestly the ONLY character who would ever have a chance to cross over to the games is Snively and that's only because he's a part of Eggman's family. But even then his appearance and time frame would most likely be changed drastically. They'd probably place him in the future with Silver and Blaze. And that concept alone is still far fetched in their eyes. Why? Because then people would want every character.

Thumbs up if you caught his mistake about robotnik's death. Robo-robotnik is from an alternate universe, the one cyber sonic came from. STH#19 and 22 would be his introductions for robo-buttnik. After being "Melted and destroyed" in #75 he was the one to download into another body, formally becoming the new Robotnik. The name Eggman has a long history and was incorporated properly if anyone looks it up on how the empire was then forged by the new Robotnik. Loved this. I'm a hardcore fan.
Dude we totally think exactly the same. I also think Sega ran out of ideas for sonic especially when they made sonic turned gold like a Z fighter. However, the comics as well as the games have gotten more creative since then. By the way did you see Sally' s new look? Totally epic. But you really think Shadow looks emo?

I agree so much with this vid, obviously Sega can't use Archie characters but there's nothing stopping them from creating their own back story for sonic just as Archie did, instead of just ripping off ideas from other successful game franchises :(
Because for some reason, SOJ decided to hold back info on Sonic's World, so SOA was forced to improvise. Also, Sonic was never popular in Japan anyway, so SOJ actually should give a care about our take on their mascot, because we're their biggest audience. If anything, Sonic is mainly popular in almost any country BUT Japan.

Robotnik was always Eggman in Japan. Translators didn't think Eggman was a good name, so they called him Doctor Ivo Robotnik. Yuji Naka, the man behind Sonic to begin with, has recognized that Doctor Eggman's full name is Doctor Ivo 'Eggman' Robotnik, even though the official japanese Sonic site claims Eggman's name is a mystery.
Also, even though the Sonic comics were commissioned by Sega, the Archie (Comics)/DiC(SatAM) storylines are seen more as fan fiction, rather than canon.
Instead, the original trilogy, CD, both Adventures, Shadow the Hedgehog, and both episodes of Sonic 4 are the only games that seem to have a connected canon. All of the other games seem to not care about previous stories.
I would say that you forgot by your listing of connected games a few like Battle that reverenced Amy's backstory form CD, Amy's and Gammer's friendship from adventure, the purpose space colony arc and Gerald's time during imprisonment and Rouge, Shadow's as Omegas Adventure from Heroes.
Than is sonic Advance 3 directly continuing battles story with gemerld being build using emerls scans from battle as well as the few salvageable leftovers from Emerl
Sonic heroes story is also over shadows mysterious re-appeared connected to shadow and adventure 2 so it is also connected.
Also yes the Archie comics are not canon to the games but because there are official lizents calling them fan fiction is kind of wrong but beside this 2 things I agree with you.
As much as I agree with you on the Sonic games being more like the comics, the hard truth is that they cannot. Yuji Naka created Sonic the Hedgehog and went on to Sega of Japan to make his dream a reality. He wanted Sonic to be a brash, short-tempered speed demon who doesn't stop for anything.
After a few months of Sonic 2's release the corporation, DiC decided to make a cartoon adaptation of the game since Sonic now had a sidekick, Tails. Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was made, but was nothing more than a slapstick comedy for kids and it wasn't received very well. Alongside AoStH was another Sonic cartoon simply titled, Sonic the Hedgehog, which later became known as Sonic SatAM by fans because it aired on Saturday mornings, rather than the weekdays like AoStH, also to differentiate the title from the games.
SatAM was a darker, more deeper version of its comedic counterpart. It was also the debut of Princess Sally Acorn, Rotor, Antoine Bunny Rabbot and Snivly. This was the series that was watched more and kept airing long after AoStH's runtime had ended. Sadly, after two short seasons, the series was cancelled and never brought back to life again. However, due the the mysterious cliffhanger that was at the end of the final episode Archie Comics made it their duty to finish what DiC had started, And continuing the show of Sonic SatAM as a comic.The comic became enormously popular by Sonic fans and reader of other Archie comics eventually found themselves ordering subscription for the Sonic comics.
The comic also introduced a wide variety of new characters, heroes and villains alike, and it brought life to the Sonic universe, but only the Sonic SatAM universe.
The games are made in Japan and have zero relation to the comic adaptation. The only way for anything to be made from the comics to the games is if Sega buys the rights to their comics, stories and characters. Meaning that if that were to happen, more than likely, the comics would either cease or be changed dramatically to suit the Japanese audience. And although the characters and backstories from the comics would be canon, because Archie Comics no longer has the rights, they cant give you the story that they want and everything would be completely different.
In my opinion. I'd like the Sonic games to take the route of what the comics are doing, but in its own way. if Sega buys the rights to the comics and includes everything the comic fans wanted, the Sonic fanbase will become more diverse than what it already is and nothing would ever be the same again.
And perhaps the Sonic Fanbase will be less crazy than it already is.
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood was actually inspired by the Knuckles: The Dark Legion comics. For some reason, though, the game left out all the complex plot development and dumbed it down for the gamers, even changing the look and feel of the brand-new characters.
Another thing...Sonic Team may have lost their spark, but you know what? The stories in the Adventure games blew the comic series away. THAT'S what they need to get back to, a middle ground. Not overly dramatic, not overly cartoony, just cool and original. Eggman was VERY intimidating in those games, but not straight out evil like in the comics. He revealed a softer side in Adventure 2. It gave him what I call dimension, yet another thing he lacks in the comics.
The comics may be a side thing but i think the thing he was getting that they should take ATLEAST SOMETHINGS FROM THE COMICS you know make knuckles DO something in a story make him a badass again introduce scourge make him a villain or use turbo tails some things in comics can be used in the games as one way or another.
Nack the Wiesel and coconuts, scratch and grounder are all in games, Nack being one of the bosses.
I AM SO GLAD I'm not the only one who thinks the comics are better (in the story and character development department) than the games. I love the games until it got to Sonic Adventure 2 (my favourite game: NO NOT BECAUSE OF SHADOW!!!, But the story itself got to me, but that's something for another day. I'm not here for arguments even though that would spice things up at the moment. BUT ANYWAY...) Yeah...Go comics!
All that bullshit about Sonic and Knuckles being roboticized, Sonic's love life, Sally, the Freedom Fighters, Scourge, that nonsense with Eggman and Sonic being an Orphan is all things that are made in the (now dead) Archie universe. all of that has nothing to do with the games. they are two different universes. that's why they have never (and will never) put Sally, the Freedom Fighters and other archie characters in the games.
Why should Sonic Team take shit from the Comics? that is very lazy. I especially don't want to see romance in Sonic. that is not what Sonic is about.
It's crazy that this was his last video. you'd think that people would've been a lot more positive back in 2012. Since Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations put Sonic in a better light.
fact #2 : the comics, games and cartoons have different characters with different universe and designs (the comics universe, the 90s sonic cartoon universe, the game universe) so sega does not make games follow cartoons, the comics modified the story to make a version of their own story. so therefore, you would not expect the 90s cartoon characters like sally in present games
Fun Fact: Sally is the ONLY character SEGA has ever place Sonic in a relationship with, this was done at Sega World, a theme park constructed by SEGA where statues, merchandise, a clock, and even what is seen as throw away items such as plates and cups featured both characters. Segas opinion of Son/Amy is "Sonic isn't interested in her"
The truth of the matter is that... SONIC WAS A COP. I'm not kidding. The first game was about him in a car chase against Robotnik. That's why Sonic does the "no-no" thing with his hands. Of course, all that is obsolete as of now.
Yeah, Archie changed their story, personality, age and even origins and love life. Sonic is older than Amy who is older than Tails which all of them are younger than Knuckles. I find it funny since Classic Sonic is 10 and when he was in Sonic Generations, he met Modern Tails, who is 8 meaning Classic Sonic is still older than Tails which i find funny.
