    "A Bill for an Act Relating to the Protection of Sharks."
    The Department of Aquatic Resources (DAR) is now responsible for deciding whether to create a permitting process for shark fishing, and if so, deciding under what activities and reasons would the permit be given.
    Any input provided on the matter is greatly appreciated!
    The purpose of this survey is to provide insight into how Hawaii’s non-commercial fishing community views a shark fishing permit which can help to insure the finalized rules closely align with what the community wants and believes is best.

    What are the details on the Shark Fishing Ban, Act 51 (House Bill 553)-
    The 2021 State Legislature passed a bill banning shark fishing which took effect January 1, 2022. The name of this bill is “Act 51 (House Bill 553)”. The Bill makes it illegal to knowingly capture, entangle, or kill a shark in state marine waters. The new law applies to all shark species found in Hawaiian waters.
