    Fun demo, well done! I've seen that before on the starter post, I find it confusing. Presumably the drop is from minor corrosion/resistance through the signal wire or starter relay in the fuse box. Lately for fun I've been using a scope to diagnose these, since you get a file of waveforms you can save and ponder over. One channel is current through the B+ wire, one channel is voltage at the B+ post, one is current to the trigger post, and if possible one channel is voltage between the starter solenoid and motor. If the latter is not possible then the last channel could be to the B+ post of the battery itself, or maybe the signal post. It's interesting how often you see the contacts bounce when you zoom in, even in a normal starter. On my old Dodge Ram the trigger wire carries a spike of 34A, flattening out to 12A while spinning, which is surprisingly above the breaker limit for the power probe.

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  3 роки тому

      Using the scope is always fun. I decided to start using the scope even when i need the multi meter just to get used to always having it around. Thanks for mentioning using the scope . i can check for voltage drop on both the ground and power at the same time(two channels only)... I just need the leads to do so lol

    • @spelunkerd
      @spelunkerd 3 роки тому +1

      @@themechanic6117 As I read my note again I wonder if I might piss some guys off because a scope requires extra effort and tools that most guys (and many hard working techs) don't have time or money for. Thank you for understanding, I do this for fun, which results in a very different workflow.

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  3 роки тому +1

      I completely understand. I can see how it eats up more time but for the sake of learning i think it's important. With more experience with the scope you'll become faster at your diagnosis

      You are correct-the battery delivery driver checks the voltage and amperage and if it checks good, they just replace the sticker with the current check date. I used to work at a retail auto parts store and saw this recheck done every time he delivered new stock but the older battery/batteries were moved to front of the stock.
