- Discover The Magic Of Kamchanod In Southern Isan, Sisaket
Wat Lumpuk Udom Phanaram, also known as the Southern Isan Khamchanot, in Sisaket Province. This temple has an interesting story about the construction of a waterfall and the unexpected appearance of a vision involving two Nagas.
The current abbot, Phra Athikan Somchok, initiated the construction of a waterfall in front of the sermon hall to enhance the landscape and the garden. During the construction, the abbot had a vision of two Nagas, each about 40 meters long, tangled in a palanquin emerging from the ground in front of the sermon hall.
Despite not initially intending to create a Naga statue, the abbot took this vision seriously. The next day at noon, he lit 108 incense sticks and prayed for a miracle. He asked that if it was meant for him to create a physical form of the Naga, a sponsor would come forward to help complete the construction of the sermon pavilion.
After two weeks of prayer, a sponsor from Bangkok appeared, showing interest in supporting the construction. The sponsor proceeded to sign the construction contract immediately, allowing the abbot to fulfil his vision and create the physical form of the Naga as part of the temple's landscape.
It's not uncommon for temples to be referred to by names that highlight their geographic location or a distinctive feature. In the case of Wat Lumpuk Udom Phanaram, it appears that its popularity has led people to colloquially call it the "Southern Isan Kamchanod" temple.
