For 90 bucks? This is a fantastic library. It fills a very nice niche for blending. You can put it behind a String Quartet to thicken things. Or even put this in front of something like Spitfire’s larger 60 piece chamber ensemble for more definition. There’s nothing of this size on the market. And it sounds great.
Ive been using Adastra Strings since it releases this summer. Great review of an often ignored product. Yes, like most enthusiasts, I have a ton of string libraries. I even have Anthology and Adagietto. What sets Adastra apart (besides the ridiculously low cost) is the integration with Soundpaint. Adastra can do tradtional orchestral music just fine, but as the reviewer has stated there is so much more (the insane dynamic control, morphing, sound design capabilities). I understand the pursuit of orchestral realism is primary to a lot of us. I agree with the reviewer that samples can be so much more while retaining those more traditional music elements. Bravo 8dio 👋
Thank you so much for this review. It really means a lot to us as we pour our lives and hearts into these creations. The intention with Adastra is indeed to start venturing into the possibilities of what we can do with all these samples, but in a new modular technology.
Thanks Greg. I was both humbled and surprised to see the review. I really appreciate you taking the time to do it so thoroughly - because we put years of our lives as developers into these creations. So its incredibly rewarding when the vision is aligned with the review. I realize its not easy to conform to new ideas and visions, especially not in conventionally locked domain like classical. But from a completely subjective point of view - I do think we are venturing into a new chapter of acoustic instruments with Soundpaint. One where, perhaps, the instruments can become something different and yet retain the timeless beauty. Thank you. ♥ Best Troels.@@totalmusicfreedom
Great overview of a fantastic library and sample engine. Well explained and demo'd. One suggestion is to open the keyboard view so we can see the notes and mod wheel action!
It's a wise choice! The chamber and solo strings have been released since this video was made! I just bought them a few days ago, absolutely beautiful!
Thanks for the thorough walk through. Does the Soundpaint player have to ability to create "smart" chords similar to Native Instruments Session Strings? As a sax player/producer I am not well versed in creating my own string chords.
Thanks for this review. If you're familiar with the earlier Kontakt versions in Agitato Grandiose, do you know if the really swoony Mancini articulations made it over? They seem to be buried somewhere, it's not entirely clear. I'm looking for more swooping portamento and glissandos, if you have other recommendations I'd appreciate that too!
Hi @torley! I believe that those indeed did make it over and are obviously now benefiting from the additional velocity layers and all of the capabilities of Soundpaint. If you have any questions let me know. Brian
@@thesampleist Thanks Brian, I'll re-watch parts of your video to see if I can tell. 15:45 seems closest but different. I wish they kept the articulation called out by name, since it really nailed "that sound". I've been looking for more "Golden Age of Hollywood" and space age bachelor pop-type strings and other instruments. What would your other recent recommendations be for really swelling, emotive strings? (Or strings in general!)
Everything is just a little bit different because of the extended capabilities and the samples are all there and most of the sound content from the original is reproduced although sometimes in a slightly different fashion to allow for the extended ability within Soudpaint
Disagree. I own it, and I love it. I use it for blending with my other libraries. Its size makes it very adaptable between both smaller and larger ensembles. It’s slightly out-of-the-box quality makes it perfect for cinematic applications.
Hello! We actually do not make any financial profit from The Sampleist. We set it up so there are no affiliate links, no advertising fees, no sponsorship deals, nothing. We just enjoy making the videos on the new libraries that appear for composers to hear and developers to get their work out there. Thanks.

Thanks for the video! Also, I'm MJ (Marissa Johnson) and I'm the Launch Producer for 8Dio and Soundpaint :) Thanks!
Hi Marissa, thanks for chiming in. Now I know who the MJ is whose initials are on the end of many of the patch names! Greg (from The Sampleist)
@@totalmusicfreedom For sure. Happy to clarify, since I know my initials pop up a lot in our Programs. And again, great work on this!

Hey thanks Soundpaint. I'm glad you liked the review. I hope I was able to convey some of the passionate work you guys do - Greg from The Sampleist

For 90 dollars this great especially in today's market where most string libraries are around 3-500 plus. Cannot wait to hear there solo strings.
Nice overview, well put together. Thanks for your work Sampleist team

Sorry, it sounds unrealistic. Very Synthy sounding, OK for sound design applications, but not for anything requiring realistic sounding strings.
