  • A girl suffers from idolatry and escapism, watching the same movie ad nauseum until each word is memorized, verbatim.
One night, the TV glitches and the film comes to life, a shape-shifting poltergeist murmurs sweet nothings into the dark.
She is trapped within her own fantasy, which has now become a nightmare..

(A Film Analysis Via Q&A with a viewer)
As each person will watch this short film and have varying and completely different reactions/take-away, to me that's the true art form- not only the art piece itself, but that moment of catharsis, the transference which occurs.
Honestly, you are free to interpret it as you like!
Though the main theme here is our intimate relationship with media and films,
the way they captivate us, hook and pull us in.. (it's sorta meta, ahaha)
    On a more personal note,
I was thinking heavily about escapism, and how we tend to use films that way,
even vicariously living through the actors' characters, or idolizing the actors themselves, completely transfixed.
I wanted to 'embody' that idea in physical form,
and that form happened to take shape of a "poltergeist"
(in this case, an entity made of static)
With this idea that.. you could practically project whoever or whatever you wanted onto this entity- sorta like changing a channel..
The static itself, which comprises both particles of light and dark..
there holds an ability to shape-shift into your greatest fantasy, or even deepest fear..
The symbolism goes a bit deeper even so..
In ways this entity is also an allegory for
"Lucifer" (translated as: "The Shining One")
Or otherwise, often referred to as "the devil" -
(This here, is a quote that stuck with me for a long time)
They say, "The Devil appears as everything you've ever wanted"
In this sense, as the media has been corrupted, yet and still remains a source of our viewing pleasure , it is something which holds a lot of temptation, illustrious imagery and fantasy/wish fulfillment..
though there is much trickery and esoteric symbolism to be found underneath, as well..
Altogether, my main goal was to make commentary about the romanticization of our relationship to the media and content we consume
and how both affects and shapes us.
So while we are watching our TV, it too, is watching us.
