    Fun fact: Eva was inspired to arrange this version after attending a BeBe & CeCe Winans concert where Eva said, "BeBe & CeCe's voices captivatingly reflects the spirit of God." She was so inspired that she began recording.

    My life goes on in endless song;
    Above earth's lamentation,
    I hear the ring of a far off bell
    That hails a new creation;
    Above the tomb of Endless strife
    I hear its music ringing;
    It sounds an echo in my soul-
    How can I keep from singing?
    While tho' the tempest around me roars
    I hear the truth; it liveth;
    While tho' the darkness 'round me close?
    Songs in the night it giveth.
    No storm can shake my inmost calm
    While to that rock I'm clinging;
    Since Love is Lord of heaven and earth,
    How can I keep from singing?
    When tyrants tremble sick with fear
    And hear their death-knell ringing
    When friends rejoice both far and near
    how can I keep from singing?!
    No storm can shake my in most calm
    While to that rock I'm clinging
    Since Love is lord of heaven and earth
    How can I keep from singing?
    My life goes on in endless song
    above earths lamentations
    i hear the ring of a far off hymn
    how can i keep from singing
    Lord, how can I keep from singing?
    How can I keep from singing?
    Thank you lord, thank you lord.
    (Thank you Eva. May the world know your grace)

    Well here I go again! Has anyone ever given more of themselves to their music? I just don’t see it. It just seems to me that Eva felt and thought so deeply about every single moment of her singing. It’s so much more than her incredible voice, which is truly the best ever. Her gift comes from a place so deep within her soul that only deep spiritual connection with one’s self could approach such greatness. To have been her friend must’ve been amazing. Some have said there was a presence about her that was indescribable. Just something really special and very different. Listening to Eva gives us our own beliefs of who Eva was here on earth. For sure she wasn’t perfect. No one in human form is. However, all her great traits and things in her life that were imperfect all contributed to who she is and why her gift is so phenomenal. Sing on angel! We all love you and are so thankful for your time with us. I truly believe there is heaven waiting for those who believe for you are one of Gods angels sent here to open Our souls. Thank you Eva. Thank you so much.

      Don Strasbaugh - Not sure if you saw my post on Eva's public facebook page, but you can order her biography as written by those who knew her. Awesome book - Songbird - Autographed by her parents, Barbara and Hugh. If you're an Eva fan and don't have one, it is a must have! Eva's sisters manage the web store and if you order, tell Margret I said hi. 😉

      I lived in Northern VA in the late 1980s-2000 and worked in Rockville MD from 1990-2000. I was lucky enough to see Eva perform live twice--once at a July 4th festival in Maryland, and once at Blues Alley in Georgetown (I had seats right next to the stage).
      I consider seeing her performances to be some of the high points of my life. In person, she radiated joy, love, intensity, and sheer power on a level that I've never seen before or since from a musician. She was truly an angel in human form--otherworldly, elegant, poised, humble, and supremely powerful. The world was blessed to have her walking--and singing--among us for those all-too-short 33 years. And the world is a slightly less wonderful place now that she is gone.
      But at least we have our memories, and hundreds of lovely recordings to which we can cling...

      So, my mother requested this song be played at her funeral. She had heard the choir pianist play it after choir practice and fell in love with this version that possessed so much soul. During my mom's funeral, it was time for this song to be played and the reverend asked the congregation to pull out their hymnals, which had the very Methodist 3/4 version . The pianist played that bluesy intro and started playing in 4/4, and the congregation was so lost. They were ready to sing in 3/4 with straight spines and sad eyes, and it was this version. Essentially, only the pianist and I knew what was happening. It was amazing. My mom had soul. I miss her very much. And this is the perfect song for a celebration of life.

      @@madisoneqex This is a great story! I love it. I have enjoyed, and really only knew the Eva Cassidy version. One Sunday our Methodist choir director sang the other version as a solo. It was kind of a deja vu dreamlike experience. I knew...but didn't know it but eventually figured it out and I told my wife and she said "no way "
      I have to be certain that they just play the recording.

    "Her life goes on in endless song,
    above Earth's lamentations.
    She hears the real, though far-off hymn.
    How can she keep from singing?"
    No, Eva will not stop singing. One day, due to social media, Eve Cassidy and the Eva Cassidy Band will be as famous as our best artists of today who have lived a full life. At that point, most all who have listened to Eva will have come to the realization that Eva Cassidy was and is still the Holy Grail of Vocalists/Musicians, and she will be the standard to which all others are compared.
    By the way, that's Chris Biondo (recording engineer) on the Bass guitar; Lenny Williams is almost always on the piano; Raice McCleod played the drums and Keith Grimes played lead guitar. They all should receive some type of special, Grammy accolades for being a phenomenal band and for helping develop the confidence and stage presence of the greatest singer in the world.

    My life flows on in endless song;
    Above earth's lamentation,
    I hear the sweet, tho' far-off hymn
    That hails a new creation;
    Thro' all the tumult and the strife
    I hear the music ringing;
    It finds an echo in my soul-
    How can I keep from singing?
    What tho' my joys and comforts die?
    The Lord my Saviour liveth;
    What tho' the darkness gather round?
    Songs in the night he giveth.
    No storm can shake my inmost calm
    While to that refuge clinging;
    Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth,
    How can I keep from singing?
    I lift my eyes; the cloud grows thin;
    I see the blue above it;
    And day by day this pathway smooths,
    Since first I learned to love it,
    The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart,
    A fountain ever springing;
    All things are mine since I am his-
    How can I keep from singing?

    Eva had left when i discovered her... Each time i listen to her, I think of her tragic destiny, but I'm thankful for the songs that were recorded and what was released after her death. Most of what she did was not really the kind of music I listen to most often, but she had an absolutely amazing, very versatile voice... So much emotion, so much delicacy when needed, and so much power ! Total control, no squeaking like too many... Just a bit of belting with total control and perfect pitch, and a rock feel... and she could sing with the most subtle, soft, restrained voice... She makes me think of the young Robert Plant. She was better than so many of the most famous female singers of the last 50 years.

      It was not a live performance, although you can hear applause at the beginning of the song. It was recorded at Chris Biondo's studio called Black Pond Studio, in Rockville, MD. Pastor Mark Carson, whose singing Eva loved, just happened to knock on the door when the recording session started. Carson added the piano track, Anthony Flowers, a Baptist church organist added the organ track; Chris Biondo played the Bass track; Dan Cassidy played three fiddle tracks; Chuck Brown added "Thank You, Lord" at the end; and the round of applause was added to the final track.

Chris Biondo said it was amazing how she could lay down 3 or 4 additional harmony tracks without having to record them twice. By the way, her aunt was a choir director, her dad still plays several instruments,, and her great Grandmother played the guitar and sang in the old country with her evangelist Great Grandfather. Brave comment, but when you really look at it critically, it’s a fair comment.

      First of all you need to get new ears. Second read comments before commenting. the singer passed away and therefore makes your shallow comment hurtful to her family

      So happy you’re in the Great Minority.
      She did more with her Beautiful Gift From GOD in her short 33 years on Earth than most do with a A Lot More Time.
      Pain in our Hearts. No more agony in her Body.🥹
      Still missing our Songbird.♥️🕊

      I suspect her family couldn’t care less about childish comments like these.

    My life goes on in endless song;
    Above earth's lamentation,
    I hear the ring of a far off bell
    That hails a new creation;
    Above the tomb of Endless strife
    I hear its music ringing;
    It sounds an echo in my soul-
    How can I keep from singing?
    While tho' the tempest around me roars
    I hear the truth; it liveth;
    While tho' the darkness 'round me close?
    Songs in the night it giveth.
    No storm can shake my inmost calm
    While to that rock I'm clinging;
    Since Love is Lord of heaven and earth,
    How can I keep from singing?
    When tyrants tremble sick with fear
    And hear their death-knell ringing
    When friends rejoice both far and near
    how can I keep from singing?!
    No storm can shake my in most calm
    While to that rock I'm clinging
    Since Love is lord of heaven and earth
    How can I keep from singing?
    My life goes on in endless song
    above earths lamentations
    i hear the ring of a far off hymn
    how can i keep from singing
    Lord, how can I keep from singing?
    How can I keep from singing?
    Thank you lord, thank you lord.
