Well here I go again! Has anyone ever given more of themselves to their music? I just don’t see it. It just seems to me that Eva felt and thought so deeply about every single moment of her singing. It’s so much more than her incredible voice, which is truly the best ever. Her gift comes from a place so deep within her soul that only deep spiritual connection with one’s self could approach such greatness. To have been her friend must’ve been amazing. Some have said there was a presence about her that was indescribable. Just something really special and very different. Listening to Eva gives us our own beliefs of who Eva was here on earth. For sure she wasn’t perfect. No one in human form is. However, all her great traits and things in her life that were imperfect all contributed to who she is and why her gift is so phenomenal. Sing on angel! We all love you and are so thankful for your time with us. I truly believe there is heaven waiting for those who believe for you are one of Gods angels sent here to open Our souls. Thank you Eva. Thank you so much.

I lived in Northern VA in the late 1980s-2000 and worked in Rockville MD from 1990-2000. I was lucky enough to see Eva perform live twice--once at a July 4th festival in Maryland, and once at Blues Alley in Georgetown (I had seats right next to the stage). I consider seeing her performances to be some of the high points of my life. In person, she radiated joy, love, intensity, and sheer power on a level that I've never seen before or since from a musician. She was truly an angel in human form--otherworldly, elegant, poised, humble, and supremely powerful. The world was blessed to have her walking--and singing--among us for those all-too-short 33 years. And the world is a slightly less wonderful place now that she is gone. But at least we have our memories, and hundreds of lovely recordings to which we can cling...

was just reading a Daily Gospel Reflection by Bishop Robert Barron, and at the end of it, he mentions this song by Eva Cassidy... so glad i found her. thank You, God.
So, my mother requested this song be played at her funeral. She had heard the choir pianist play it after choir practice and fell in love with this version that possessed so much soul. During my mom's funeral, it was time for this song to be played and the reverend asked the congregation to pull out their hymnals, which had the very Methodist 3/4 version . The pianist played that bluesy intro and started playing in 4/4, and the congregation was so lost. They were ready to sing in 3/4 with straight spines and sad eyes, and it was this version. Essentially, only the pianist and I knew what was happening. It was amazing. My mom had soul. I miss her very much. And this is the perfect song for a celebration of life.
@@madisoneqex This is a great story! I love it. I have enjoyed, and really only knew the Eva Cassidy version. One Sunday our Methodist choir director sang the other version as a solo. Thro' all the tumult and the strife

The Lord my Saviour liveth;
What tho' the darkness gather round?
Songs in the night he giveth.
No storm can shake my inmost calm
While to that refuge clinging;
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth,
How can I keep from singing?
I lift my eyes; the cloud grows thin;
I see the blue above it;
And day by day this pathway smooths,
Since first I learned to love it,
The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart,
A fountain ever springing;
All things are mine since I am his-

My life goes on in endless song
above earths lamentations
i hear the ring of a far off hymn
how can i keep from singing
Lord, how can I keep from singing?
How can I keep from singing?
Thank you lord, thank you lord.
My life goes on in endless song;
Above earth's lamentation,
I hear the ring of a far off bell
That hails a new creation;
Above the tomb of Endless strife
I hear its music ringing;
It sounds an echo in my soul-
How can I keep from singing?
While tho' the tempest around me roars
I hear the truth; it liveth;
While tho' the darkness 'round me close?
Songs in the night it giveth.
No storm can shake my inmost calm
While to that rock I'm clinging;
Since Love is Lord of heaven and earth,
How can I keep from singing?
When tyrants tremble sick with fear
And hear their death-knell ringing
When friends rejoice both far and near
how can I keep from singing?!
No storm can shake my in most calm
While to that rock I'm clinging
Since Love is lord of heaven and earth
How can I keep from singing?
My life goes on in endless song
above earths lamentations
i hear the ring of a far off hymn
how can i keep from singing
Lord, how can I keep from singing?
How can I keep from singing?
Thank you lord, thank you lord.
