Grew up as a young kid watching Paladin. What made the biggest impression on me was how real and convincing he was. You knew when he became resolved to do something, you knew it would happen. R.I.P. RB, you were awesome! 😊
Whether playing a good guy or a bad guy, Richard Boone always played his role with panache. We all know him in his role in "Paladin", but watch him as the leader of a pack of miscreants in the John Wayne oater "Big Jake". While those he led stood out for each one's particular grisley speciality, Boone steals the screen, especially at times from Wayne. It's a must ssee.
have gun will travel is the card of a man, a knight without armor in a savage land. A soldier of fortune is a man calllllled Paladin. hahaha Paladin Paladin where do you roam. etc.
Such a fantastic actor !! This man as an actor, with the characters that he portrayed, just plain scared the crap out of me !! He is certainly missed !! RIP Mr Boone !
He also lived in St. Augustine, Florida and wrote a St. Augustine newspaper column about life there. I learned this while vacationing there and I then went on to Disney World and then on to Key West. Memories. He was a remarkable, dedicated man.
One of my favourite FL cities. A real place with a real history, not just a series of fast food outlets and cookie cutter suburbs. And a huge gator farm!
Unfortunately, Have Gun Will Travel, was never aired as a rerun where I grew up. Discovered the show, only about a decade ago, as a 30 year old, on ME TV. Became so much a favorite, that I bought the entire series on DVD. Now, I can watch Paladin at my leisure. What a superb tv show! HGWT is a masterpiece.
Paladin had CLASS. I still remember him in his fancy Victorian hotel room in San Francisco, reading the paper in his quilted silk smoking jacket, then pulling a tasseled cord. Chinese servant Hey Boy would show up. And thus began our next adventure...
I spent many hours watching Paladin with my grandpa when I was eight or nine years old. I think I was to young to understand a lot of it but when I found a box set of Paladin at Wal Mart I spent many hours reliving the series with my husband. rest in peace Richard, you were one of the great ones.
I'm 67, and grew up watch Mr. Boone. It was a great time to be alive and watching examples of manhood on tv. I actually enjoyed his portrayal of the kidnapper in John Wayne's Big Jake. "Your fault, my fault, nobodies fault......." you know the rest of it. Great actor, and great film.
While serving in the military ,we had his card painted on the back of our Vulcan. As a child I got the whole set cap gun cards and all the goodies 👍👍❤️
Watched him in paladin when a kid! Will allways remember him -- a great actor. Was a part of fond childhood memories!! They just don't make actors like him anymore!
Thank you - I did not know what happened to him except in the last pictures I’d seen of him, he looked awful. Now I know. 🥀 I will always remember you. You are one of my childhood icons. Be happy wherever you are. 🌷🌱
Paul Neumann's wesrtern "Hombre" near end of tale Boone steals the show, all I remember about this movie; that couple mins of his performance. No one else like him.
That's HELLYWOOD!!!! 🖤 🔥 They Have No Conscience. No Soul. No Integrity. No Respect. No Fear Of God. How Many People's Lives Have They Destroyed. How Many TV Series And Shows Did They End, Without Any Warnings To The Actors And Actresses. And The List Goes On. 😈
Around 1977-78 I was delivering medical supplies to a Doctors office in L.A. I was in the waiting room with 4 other people and all of a sudden the door opened and out ran Richard "Paladin" Boone himself in his boxer shorts. He looked at all of us and said, "they are trying to kill me back there! They have a needle this big!!" , & then he turned around and ran back. We all laughed and I could see down the hall that the Doctor and Nurses were laughing too. I couldn't believe that Paladin was that funny. That was a good show!
I managed to pick up a couple of DVD sets of Paladin some 20 years ago. Sadly, one doesn't see the series on TV repeats or streaming in this age of political correctness and moral relativism. I would be (happily) surprised to see it become popular again. What really set this show apart (and maybe Gene Rodenberry's own thought processes manifested themselves here) was its philosophical values, in particular the depiction of a heroic being. This was before the glamorizing of the anti hero and the very idea of there being a difference between right and wrong. These days, values agnosticism makes finding an uplifting movie a difficult quest. The sad part is that our culture has turned away from looking up to heroes, and instead made victimhood a claim of virtue.
Living in NZ , do not recall any of Richard Boones artistic works beng aired here , on radio , or when it arrived television . "Paladin + have gun will travel " has not long been found on one of the old school radio-tv , rebroadcastors (?), channels . I hope the rest of his work can be found , as "Paadin" , was enjoyed very much .
Boone was great. Nice video. But no mention of him in Hombre with Paul Newman. That was a good villain role, and a good movie, with some other good actors, plus it brought up racial prejudice issues. Yay Paladin!
❤I honestly believe Boone was tired if HG-WT, his next series was The Richard Boone Show, an anthology of great acting but lasted only one season! I watched it as a very young child (3rd grade) and was immediately bored to tears not knowing great acting! The fact that he was a hardcore smoker and drinker I'm sure ended his life much sooner! He aged very badly with his looks becoming just a ragged, old man! I think the lady who played Hey Girl is still alive but I'm not sure! She outlasted everyone associated with the show! One thing that always bothered me was his very slow draw when he was supposed to be the fastest in the West!
You didn't even mention that early on, Boon played Cyrano, one of his best all time performances. Not much at all on how his life ended, his surviving family, etc. Disappointing.
Amen. Loved Maverick, too, with James Garner: "Who is that tall dark stranger there? Maverick is the name. Wild as the wind from who-knows- where; Luck is his companion, Gambling is his game." Gunsmoke, Rawhide,Bonanza. A French poet lamented: "Where are the snows of yesteryear?" 😢
as a kid i always saw him as a kind of ham with his facial expressions, otherwise the show was fine. Often wonder why he had a kaiser of Germany moustache though. It would have been great if you played the ballad in the background of this clip
His career now?? Boone is still alive and kicking in the memories of his fans? WHERE did you get all your misinformation, he passed away over 40 years ago!!
The aggravating thing is the video is actually good on its own, yet you go and make a clickbait thumbnail making him look like he ended up homeless living in the street. People, STOP subbing to AI channels!
Why do you have him looking like a homeless bum in your picture? He was a Genius and you portray him as a wineo in your picture and headlines of this article!
You forgot to mention the small but memeral bad guy role he played in Hombre with Paul Newman. Boon was no pretty boy but ugly guys get the hottest girl's.

Boone's journey from a conflicted youth to a Hollywood icon is a testament to following one’s passion against all odds.

Fantastic character actor, one of the best. Right there with Gene Hackmon, and director, actor John Houston and Walter Houston, Karl Maulden.
John (son) and Walter HUSTON (father from Toronto) (not HOUSTON as in Sam HOUSTON, Texas )
0:00 This was one of the best videos I have ever viewed on an actor! You can tell it was done with great affection and respect bravo!
I'd forgotten about this show. Used to watch it as a child with our dear old Dad. More comfy nostalgic memories.
It still runs regularly on one of the rerun networks.

Paladin gave me hope while facing life as a young boy. I truly enjoyed his movies on TV.
The show ran from 1957- to 1963.. And it was RodenBERRY not Rodenburg.

Don't know why it is claimed it started in 58 , when it was 57 .
This man was a great actor and a Real Man. Wish he was still here. Shame on the Hollywood industry.
Gunsmoke actors found out about that shows cancellation in the tabloids. So Boone shouldn't have felt slighted.

Different from any other western. I try not to miss it every Saturday afternoon.
at 20 minutes you said something wrong. Flagler College is in Saint Augustine, not in Boone. It is a small private college.
Such an underrated actor.
Died at 63. I cannot believe he packed all that acting in a relatively short span of time. He was probably never really out of work like most actors.
Loved that show!!!❤
He was great in the Shootist!
I still watch Have Gun Will Travel in 2024 , love that show
Paladin was a bounty hunter. Like medieval knights, they were basically mercenaries, some with high ideals.
And… the hokiest fast draw in all of westerns. But… I still watch reruns every morning.
Great actor that he was…. He gives me many hours of great entertainment……thank you Richard

great-great-great-great-grandson of Squire Boone, brother of Daniel Boone
He was the heavy in the movie “Hud” with Paul Newman and really conveyed menace so you believed it. That was some good acting.
