This is why Johnny's is the top market gardener company in the country. Support Johnny's, even when the price tag hurts. 😁😆 Those kids down south stop growing in the dead heat of summer instead of the cold and snow of winter 🤨 I'd take the snow.
I love watching your videos. My husband always asks me, Oh--is that Nicole Pitt? Another Flower Hill Farm video, huh? Ha ha. You're such a font of information. Super glad to have ya :)
THANK YOU for the info from Johnnys!! I didn't know they had that calculator! I have been doing it manually but it doesn't always come out right!! Appreciate this!
Planted my lizzy seeds a few days after you and am very happy to see a dozen green dots looking at me. My last attempt at starting them two years ago failed. Doing some winter sowing today.🌱😍
Nicole - I can attest to gnat problems - by the thousands, no lie. This year I took action and I'm faithful with my weekly mosq. bits and have sticky tape everywhere. It's working. But the greatest tool I've found is one of those battery operated rackets for bugs. There's no greater satisfaction then waving that around and seeing it zap one of those suckers! Now every morning I tap on trays, pots, and even buckets with leaf clippings and old soil - then wave the racket slowly over it and zap zap zap! So get your ninja on and get yourself one. I wish I had thought of it earlier.
I recently bought channel trays to start my lisianthus in. I checked tonight and I have a couple tiny plants! This is only day 10! Woo hoo! Last year was a bust for my lisianthus so I'm hoping this year is better and I get some blooms.
Thank you so much for sharing the Johnny’s seed/ling planning tool…I’ve been wondering how to calculate the number of plants needed for a charity flowerbed. Sorted. Loving the ‘fan hair’ segue, btw! 😂
As always Love your videos 🌱🌿babies look at all the baby greens I love this time of year. Timers are life savers, I still check mine lol planning notebooks spreadsheets it's all so much fun... Johnny Seeds is Awesome I have used those tools lots, and share that with others, they are giving back to the growing community on so many levels. I am glad you shared this out to your followers that just shows how extra giving you are as well. 🌱💚🌿
I've really wanted to try growing Lisianthus but I don't think I have the right seed starting set up and I'm a little intimidated by trying to care for them. At least I can watch you growing them and learn from how your doing it. I recently learned they are a prairie flower so they just need the right kind of conditions to grow successfully. I love the Queen Lime Blush but my favorite this year was the Takii's Choice Mix Zinnias from Baker's Creek. They are a cactus type and were so gorgeous in my raised bed last summer.
Thanks so much! I'm constantly on Johnny's, but I didn't know about that spacing tool. Lol the hours of me drawing it out and counting and calculating... Gone! Thank you so much!
I actually direct sowed some lizzy seeds about 14 years ago and a couple of them grew into really nice plants. Of course, that was before I knew any better. I was just a newby in gardening at that time but loved the heck out of it and still do! 💜🌸🌹🌼🌻🌺🐞🐝🦋
You have probably done your research so you may know this but the campanula is a daylight sensitive. So they may try and bloom if exposed to to much light. I would just put it in a south facing window inside or just leave it outside. If I were you I would experiment and do a little of everything! Love you videos!!
I love Johnny's website. There is so much great information. Florets website is awesome too! She has so much information on her site. Lisa Mason Zeiglers book has been my cool flowers Bible for many years. There is just so much information out there between the internet and books. I just went to the library today and got books on soil health and regenerative gardening.
Thanks Nicole! Don't forget the germination percentage that Johnny's stamps on the front of the seed packets. We can be pretty confident in the number of seeds we start to end with the plants we need. Appreciate all of the information on so many topics that you share.
I just got my lisianthus seeds yesterday so I’m behind on those. Keeping my fingers crossed for good germination and I will follow any updates you share to see how to best care for my lissies. Is it weird to think of them as my precious little plant babies? 😂
Thanks for the lisianthus update. I’m still waiting for my seeds from Johnny’s but good to know how slow they germinate. What topics do you speak about when you address MG or garden clubs? 😊
I'm trying the channel trays you recommended. It seems like they've worked great for your lisianthus! I just set up my first set of grow light shelves too, and I'm excited to fill it up with snapdragons and tomatoes. I've done some winter sowing today as well. Your experiment was so successful last year that I wanted to give it a try. It's nice to be sowing something even though it's midwinter. It fills me with anticipation for the coming year!
Hey Nicole! Thanks for always keeping everything entertaining! Do you follow soil depth planting guidelines when planting in the soil blocks? Or do you surface sow everything?
Hi Nicole, those seedlings are very exciting. I just bought 2 grow lights for my seed starting in mid-march. I am wondering about the pink light. What is the value of it? Pink would drive me crazy, lol, but the. My set up is in my living room, not my basement. Oh, lol, you just answered my question! Nevermind.
Nicole, I know you’ve mentioned it in the past, but can you remind us… who do you use for your plugs/liners for the plants you don’t personally start from seed?
I’m an aspiring flower farmer. I would like to grow peonies. Do you know wheee I could purchase peonies in bulk? I also love Lizzie’s and May grow those after getting established a few years
I ordered the seed row trays, and planted my lisianthus in the seed row trays the day they both arrived, January 9th 🎶anticipation… I was worried because Johnny’s says to plant in cells, but I’m following you on this, I want to see everything you do with these. I’m pretty excited about it this year since I got going early.
So ur plant lights besides the one aren’t grow light bulbs? They are regular? Or u just mean the valences are shop light valences? With grow bulbs in them??
@@FlowerHillFarm game changer! I am not gonna waste money on other ones then you do awesome with those.. I have “special grow lights” in my cart on Amazon. I’d rather buy more heating mats lol
Hi! Cute lisianthus babies!! I planted some for the first time last weekend - Question: now that they're germinated do you take them off the heat & dome, or leave as is a little longer? Thanks!! 😊
thank you for the video it was so helpful. If you don't mind me asking, who do you sell your flowers to? or do you sell them yourself ? I only have 2 acres but want to start growing flowers and produce to sell. thank you!!!
Hi Nicole! I’m a big fan! Just wanted to thank you for sharing what you do. Curious, do you sleep?? I’m thinking you have some “Superwoman” DNA in you… Have a great week!😊
Hey Nicole if I havnt mentioned it before I'm mentioning it now, I want to say that you have come a long way and it's very inspiring!! Question, Has anyone bought seeds from an Etsy store called Southern Seed Exchange? If so please let me know how they did.
Cool. Good to know. I need to deal with Squirrel issues before I plan anything. They were terrorists in my Garden last season. Anybody know where I can hire a cheap team of Garden Ninjas?🥷

Did not realize Johnny's had that on their website! Good to know, thanks for sharing! Queen Lime Zinnias are addictive, it's actually true...😁😁😁
Thanks for the great tool advice. I get crazy when I am planting out - sometimes only thinking in row space and not to the next row.
Planted my lizzy seeds a few days after you and am very happy to see a dozen green dots looking at me. My last attempt at starting them two years ago failed. Doing some winter sowing today.🌱😍

I love all the Johnny’s resources, super helpful! Thanks for sharing, I’m sure many don’t know about it.
The end bit though 😂 that’s me every morning 😂😂💕
Thanks Nicole! Awesome resources!
I found the channel tray’s very difficult to transplant from. This time I will space the seeds further apart!

They will be outside soon! No need to worry about blooming in the basement :)
Thanks for the useful tool tip. I have way to many seeds for the spaces I have available. My backyard will look fabulous if it works out.
Look at all the babies! 😍💐

Nicole can you tell me what size of soil blocker do you use. Is it too the mini or regular 2 inch? Thanks, Maggie

I started my Lisianthus around the same time you did. When do you start fertilizing them?
Nicole, could you confirm shop lights, hanger and timer details?
You rock, Nicole! Thanks for the very helpful info.
Did you use Root Shield for your Lissies? If not, what did you use, if anything more cost effective for a fungicide?
Nicole, I know you’ve mentioned it in the past, but can you remind us… who do you use for your plugs/liners for the plants you don’t personally start from seed?
