I did this on a couple of linen kitchen towels. I thought the frayed edge was too beautiul to cut off so I saved it as the bottom edge and did mitered corners on the top. I was planning to give them away but ended up keeping them because I loved the result so much. So fun to see someone else appreciating the look and I love how you want to use every little piece of the fabric. I really enjoy your videos and I think your designs are beautiful, thank you for sharing your thoughts and process here!
Sorry for such a late response, but thank you for the kind words, and for sharing this idea!! I love the idea of it being the edges of towels. Haha I'd probably keep them too 😂
I just found your channel and love it!!! I absolutely love this idea, and I love linen !!! I need to go watch your other videos ❤ (I've been sewing for approx 55 yrs and always learning something new)
This tutorial and suggestions was amazing. I love working with linen and why not use the beautiful remnants that usually get discarded - give them some love instead :)
Another great video and I love selvedges too! I made a top and cut the short sleeve pattern so that the hem lined up with the selvedge. I love how it turned out, it saved having to do a semi bulky turned-under hem, and it added a little bit of interest to a plain cotton linen blend top. I can see how having a selvedge hem on a ruffled sleeve makes it “drape” a bit better than having a turned-under hem. I will definitely look for more opportunities to use them more in garments and other crafty items. I also save them to use as ribbon for wrapped gifts. Thank you for sharing your making. 🤩
This is such a genius idea. I often use linen and always thought it was a shame to throw the edges away. I am definitely going to incorporate the selvedge into my garments now. Thank you! Oh and you have some really beautiful fabrics.
These are such great ideas! The UA-cam algorithm has been pushing me your videos and I'm so glad I finally watched one! I LOVE your style and have already planned to make your canary top this fall and incorporate the salvage! I also look forward to the release of your shirt dress/jacket pattern you mentioned in another video😍
Yay!! I'm so glad to have you here! Excited for you to try out the selvage-- it's honestly one of my favorite elements on any of my garments. So soft but durable. Looking forward to sharing the LADYBIRD jacket/dress pattern with you soon :)
By coincidence I a sewing a winter dress from a flannel. I cut the sleeve ruffle… a wide one, on the Deer and Doe Myositis dress… asking the selvedgev and a trying to decide whether to leave it like this or to turn up and hem it.
I haven't yet, but people keep recommending it to me, so I hope to find time to try it out sometime this year! If you've ever found a good supplier of it online that I should try, do let me know! :)
The salvedge isn’t bound. It is woven along with the fabric. It is simply where the weft thread has come to the edge of the warp threads, turns back wrapping the last warp thread. As you noted it is often more tight women. There are more threads per inch in the selvedge.

Exactly! And thanks so much for the kind words :)
Thanks for the tutorial. I have used the selvage but not the frayed edges. I will definitely use the edges now.
I like the use of the “spine”.

Thank you! I agree-- a nicer drape without the turned under hem, plus it's easier, too! Which I pretty much always go for 😂
Amazing video! Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom with us!
Thank you for sharing these great ideas! I love the way it looks!🙏🏼❤😃
Thank you!!
Super helpful. Thank you! New to sewing and am only using linen so far…and maybe forever. Love it so. Love your clothing ❤
Thank you! I'm so happy it is helpful. You're starting off on a great foot by using linen!!

Thank you! Definitely give it a try, it's a fun addition!

Love this idea! Yes, I’ll use these techniques. 💞
Thanks so very much for this information!❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much!!! I will definitely try this!
Great tips. I will definitely use them in the future.
Thank you, I'm glad it was helpful! :)
I use two gathering threads. I find it gives more even ruffles and the threads don’t break as easily
I think that is a great tip! I sometimes do that, and sometimes am too lazy 😂

Thank you for sharing this technique with us! I will definatey be thinking of waqysw to add them to my projects.
Yes I never thought to use the salvage but will definitely do so in future. Do you ever work with hemp fabric?

Excellent class! Thank you. Can I ask where you purchased your ironing mat from?
Yes! I got the table and the ironing mat from Joann Fabrics! Absolutely love it. www.joann.com/home-hobby-table-cover/13834643.html
