  • Air Armoury - Episode 36 - CZ VZ47 Military Training Air Rifle
    This month the Air Armoury's JRH looks at a Zbrojovka Brno made CZ VZ47 military training air rifle from 1940s Czechoslovakia.
    *At 3:23 I meant to say front sling swivel, not barrel band.
    *At 19:14 I meant to say mid-war not pre-war - Czechoslovakia wasn't occupied by Germany until 1939.

    vz. means shortcut for vzor in czech language which could be translated as model. Most of our CZ guns are called vz. not according on loads. we have vz. pistols, rifles, air guns and even some tanks and much more military tech's mostly called by year of the development.

    A great little rifle, which would have achieved its job for its time as a training rifle. Imagine what a modern day air-gun company could achieve nowa days. The mind boggles. If they could create these again and make them accurate and a bit more powerful, they would sell like hot cakes.

    Good detailed review. I have just bought this air rifle. Superbly built gun. Constructed to last forever. When I say I have just bought this gun, I mean exactly that. The same serial number.

      Haha no way! You must have only just bought it as I only sold it to a gun shop earlier this week. It is a fantastic gun and I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I did. I was reluctant to part ways with it but I currently have too many guns and needed to make some space for new acquisitions. Reminds me of a quote from 'The Godfather of Airguns' Tom Gaylord - "Someday, every airgun in your collection is going to belong to someone else. You only own them for a brief period, and then they are on the block once again. Do not fret about this, it is how you got them in the first place."
      I did a lot of testing of this gun with a number of different types of lead balls. If you message me on the Air Armoury Facebook page I'd be happy to share my findings with you.
      JRH.

    Quite a bit more powerful than I thought I'd have guessed about 300 fps.

    I know a bit about the cz452. A .22lr trainer made by cz at about the same time. The cz452 was commissioned by the Nazis in 42 or 43 as a trainer for the k98, but didn't become production ready until 1947. Maybe the air rifle has a similar history, that would explain the German marking (just a thought). Really good videos btw. This was one of your best.

      Máte dobré tušení. Hystorii začala jako kopie pušky Mauser. A byla to cvičná zbraň. Ale původní je jen nabíjení. Vše se časem vyjelo. Československé značení je VZ=vzor 47=1947. Tank=T. Obrněný transportér=OT. Byli jsme zbrojní velmoc. Než sjme skončili v NATO a EU. 😢

    Aren't that balls mark 10 too small? We have even model 11 which has 4,5 but I am not sure if that weapon has rifled barrel

      @@weirdscience8341 Not anymore, Slavia ariguns are not in production few years and it's rare to get one now. I have Slavia 634 made in 2014 and that's one of the last made in Czech Republic, they moved production to Slovakia for few years and now it's stopped completely. I think CZUB has too much work with new military rifles and submachineguns, they just don't have time for making airguns, also find some qualified workers is very hard and you can't use Ukrainians for everything, especially not for making guns. :-D

    I met a man who had his VZ47 (he had a VZ35 as well) modded to shoot 500-550 fps, he was a mechanical engineer with quite a bit of know how and tinkering experience. He also used quite a bit of CLP petrol lube so I'm assuming most of that gain was due to dieseling. He fabricated new parts using his own lathe and sourced others from his hobby group that is a bunch of old guys with lots of time, expendable income, and combined knowledge. I asked if he would ever sell it, and he said never, but if he really had to he'd ask for at least $1000 or more. I then remembered I can get 2 ar-15s for it and let go of the thought.

    I bought one at a flea market years ago. Just put a new spring and brass O-ring and shoots like new. Above the production number is engraved the coat of arms of the Czech lion and underneath it the Česká zbrojovka National Enterprise Strakonice, they are rarer.

    Is it possible to diesel this rifle? I mean, VZ47 uses round lead balls and not pellets which have skirts in which you can easily pour ignitable liquid or paste, so it should be rather really hard if not impossible, no?

    • @AirArmoury
      @AirArmoury  6 років тому

      No idea why you would want to but it is technically possible. A lot of dieseling is caused the the oil/lubricant in the compression chamber itself, not directly on the pellet.

    • @Pidalin

      all spring air guns are diesling, I used special high temperature oil for CNC machine from my work and it's perfect ;-)

    Just picked up a nice example of this rifle the other day, and learned a lot from your video prior to the purchase. So thank you very much.
    As for the rifle, it has a swept ball handle. I haven't found any other example of that anywhere online. Have you seen one before?
    Also the sling swivel has been moved back on the butt (job looks professional so probably modified by the army). It's missing the nose cap. The seller said he might have it somewhere, but I'll probably make use of a mauser cap or something if he can't find it. Fascinated by the action of the rifle. Just waiting on my ammo to be sent from Germany. Can't wait

      Yeah I've seen it but as much as I love the idea I'm not going to get one as one of the most iconic things about the K98 is that it's bolt action. Germany has a long history of making bolt action military style spring guns so it is possible. I think Diana missed a real opportunity with it to make a better reproduction.

      @@AirArmoury they used there 430 magnum as the action if they used any co2 or weaker spring powered bolt set up it would have been useless for hunting but they really hit the nail on the head using the base rifle they did as it looks stunnin the diana to6 triger is great and if you pop a vortek tuning kit in it they really are special if you want a bolt action 1 on 1 replica marui make a perfect replica of the mauser diana definitely knew what they were doing when they thought up the rifle also in ww2 diana made mausers for the german war effort same as bsa made a few Enfield rifles for the allies

    Is it not likley that the hk marking is a marking of the army inspector who approved the gun for army service. At least in sweden they often used their initials (so in sweden hk would be eg Hans Karlsson or someting similar. ) A stamp on every main part being accepted and the army property mark when the entire gun is approved. Millitaries are likley to just continue doing what they always has done regardless of if it is resonable so it would not be suprising to me if they "proofed" airguns

    • @Pidalin
      @Pidalin 3 роки тому

      Why do you need 4.3 mm? Most of people want vice versa higher diameter beause modern airguns have too big diameter barrels and bad quality rifling so it's barely touching with 4.5 mm pellets or BBs.

    ua-cam.com/video/XalzmE8wlys/v-deo.html This guy got an avg fps of 475.72 (145 meters/sec) translating to 4.13 ft lbs (5.6 joules), various forums have others shooting high avgs based on seal condition/quality and whether it was modded or not. The VZ47 is the low cost variant of the VZ35 which is more fine tuned and associated with slightly higher velocities due to the overall better fit and tightness of the internal components. There are a few US and Eastern European airgun forums where some individuals modded their VZ47s (not the rarer more expensive VZ35, there's one selling in the US simpsonltd.com/czech-vz-35-trainer-air-rifle-c46675/for $2495 USD before taxes) to shoot up to 550fps using the H&N 4.4. rundkugels and breakfree CLP oil. (THey don't mind the dieseling since they've fabricated stronger parts themselves using a lathe) I'm working on doing the same with their help. (You can find VZ47s for 200-500 USD here stateside depending on condition at least 2 twice a year in the U.S. on places like gunbroker, icollector, morphy's auction, gunsamerica, ebay and auction arms (few more smaller sites too. I collect military trainers. Good luck on your search and modifications.

    Those Czech BBs look bad quality because it's from kovohutě příbram, they are doing only very cheap BBs and pellets, we have better company JSB, but I think they don't make BBs, they made only pellets. But those BBs are absolutely ok when you have rifled barrel, I even didn't know smaller diameter than 4,46 mm exists, you mostly use 4,50 mm to modern airguns and 4,46 to airguns made for steel BBs without rifled barrel (if you want lead BBs for some reason).
