Best modification I did to my M135i was to fit an ATB diff. When I removed the ATB, to sell the car, I was reminded just how much the F20/21 chassis needs a proper differential.
Great video, and love Hamza's car. If the M140i came with an LSD as standard, they would be too close to a real M car, and BMW would not sell as many M2's. It is a flaw, but in reality only a very small percentage of M140i owners will ever drive it quickly enough to experience the benefits of a limited slip diff. There are a lot of keyboard experts that just repeat the same old rubbish without really knowing (and most of them probably haven't even driven an M140i let alone own one). If you are going to drive it at 10/10ths a lot, and do track-days, then a locking diff is a must. If you drive it pretty slowly 95% of the time, and only have a quick blast once in a while (like the massive majority of M140i owners), then it's a massive expense for little benefit in my opinion. Of course, having a diff makes the front end more under-steery, and so you you then need to correct that by more camber on the front. It's a balance between how much you really want to drive at 10/10th's and your budget.

You should drive my M140i. It has Birds suspension, underbody brace, MP LSD and Michilin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. The latter is game changing compared with MPSS which are completely wrong for the UK. Handling and grip levels are sensational. It drives like a £20k more expensive car.
Im just about to fit MPS4 245 front 255 rear on appropriate sized alloys, already had the diff and that is hands down the best mod, also have b12 kit, sounds like we have similar cars, i felt a bit bad the other day when i realised for 3 grand more i could have been in an M2, but too late now and the 5 doors does help to be honest, will just have to keep the car a long time now to get my money out of it.
@@M_U_NAS You say you have had all the handling mods fitted to your M140i, could I please ask you a few questions(?) And I REALLY need you to be honest with me, and though you obviously love your M140i,.. I really need you to be as objective and unbiased as possible. My wife and I are about to buy a car that's taken us quite a few years to save for and I really don't want to end up in a car that isn't what YT car presenters have hyped them up to be, so I'm looking for 'honest' info from those who actually own one of the cars I'm going to finally choose to buy. I've always preferred cars that placed handling over power and of the cars I've whittled down to considering (Type R GT fk8, Focus RS, Megane Trophy) the M140i is a car I've looked at in great detail to see if it can be made to handle so I can put it at the top of my list. I'm aware of everything that needs doing to it to apparently get the handling where I'd want it to be, especially on track and my visits to the Nurb-ring. But the cost to get the M140i sorted will be about five to six thousand pounds(!)... And I've had a few few people say that even after all that been done, it's still not on the same handling level of the others. I have driven a stock M140i and liked everything about it (especially the engine!) except the handling, which didn't impress on me at all and it got the car taken off my list. I don't know what cars you have driven/owned or your level of driving experience, but you have driven a "sorted" M140i and I would appreciate your honest feedback on the reality of the handling improvement with all said work done. How much has it really improved the handling, and if you've got experience with the other cars on my list, where would you place the sorted M140i amongst them as track/driver focused cars.... Almost as good(?), just as good(?) definitely as good(?) better than(?) In order of my personal experience with them, I rate the Type R GT fk8 first, followed by the Megane Trophy and then the Focus RS,.. Though the RS was over damped for the road, it was great on track and impressed well, but I've actually taken it off my list due to reliability issues and am only mentioning it due to the handling and driver focused abilities it had. It's the Type R GT fk8 which I'm most likely to aim for, but if the M140i handling can truly be improved to a level that the extra costs would justify, I'd definitely aim towards getting one.... But I don't know who to trust regarding just how much improvement I'd actually get for the 5-6k, having had a few former M140i owners tell me that though it does improve the M140i, it won't put it on the same handling level of any of the above cars and isn't ultimately worth the cost, telling me that only deliberately biased BMW fan boys say it is and won't admit that they spent a lot of money hoping to get a great handling track demon hot hatch, when in reality.. they just made the handling safer and a bit more usable. I have no way of getting into a "sorted" M140i for a test drive, let alone put it through its paces on a track, to be sure of who's telling the truth and/or even has the driving experience to know what they're talking about in regards to handling levels, abilities and etc.. I know my remapped e92 330d ain’t no m lite car but with the open diff the one tyre fires were ridiculous so I had a quaife atb fitted. Transformed it! All moderate to high powered BMW need an lsd. When I eventually get a 135 or 140i this will be my first mod.
I had an e92 330d which was remapped to around 280bhp, felt very torquey and was a great all round car, quick while being great on fuel. Now I’ve moved to an M240i, also remapped to around 420bhp, it’s a totally different monster in terms of speed, sound etc. Although fuel can get very expensive but that’s expected. Overall would definitely recommend the upgrade and the LSD is definitely needed in the M1/240i
Amesome car. I drive a tuned 218I Coupe stage I. Would it be an idea to fit it with a LSD too? Or is it better to reserve this type of upgrade for M-lite models only?
Any car could benefit from it, the more power the car has the more you will notice the open diff being an issue. So you might not notice a huge benefit especially considering the cost.
I have a Drexler LSD with Tuningwerk setup. By far best mod! And i have KW Clubsport suspension, Full Akra and Stage 2. Not sure about the subframe bushes. Yes it feels a little bit disconnected and floaty stock. I do not like it on full throttle on the autobahn. Feels like its floating underneath you. But I heard multiple times they upset the balance.
Could you try and help debunk something. Did the stock diff housing have the drexler symbol (looks like an s) and 2.1 etched in at the bottom which you can see @3:48 on the new diff? Are the housings different open to lsd? Have wavetrac used an MP lsd housing? My 140 has the drexler logo and 2.1 yet was not spec’d with lsd, but was one of the last ones to be made. Is there a chance bmw chucked MP diffs in end of production cars?🤷🏻♂️
I kinda feel like dumping grands into the m140i to try and make it handle like an m car defeats the object a bit. They are good because they are cheap and are good fun. But once you starting throwing thousands at it to make it better, its no longer a cheap car and one that will never hold value or be as desireable as a real M car. Take a look at the m135i's. You can pick a high spec one with the zf box for 12k now. You aint picking up 10 year old m3 for that kinda money... The Diff is probably a good upgrade for sure but I know your gonna be set back over 3k for it fitted but id probably leave it at that if I was to ever get one. I drive an m2 at the moment and the reason I didnt get another m140i is because I knew I would have to throw 7k at the handling and chassis and another £1500 at the exhaust, intake and tune to bring it up to M car driving experience. Yes, they can be mapped and stage 2'd for a couple of grand but the rest of the car then isnt up to scratch for it. Then the problem I had was the cars only worth half of that of an m2 at the end of it all. Its kinda sensless and it doesnt look anywhere near as aggressive with the skinny arches and small narrow wheels. If you want much wider wheels on the rear with wider tyres then your gonna need wide arch kit to fit them, along with a spray job. Which puts at least another 4k on the bill. Its a basic 1 series chassis with a fancy engine at the end of the day. Thats what makes them affordable. Lots of fun and a handful with the standard setup.
You are absolutely correct: Sadly, I am writing this after four years, and I have already spent a lot of money on my vehicle, a N57 stage 5 the suspension will be completed this year. I am not constructing a M car, but I am constructing something special. I find it more special than any M2, M3, or M4 car I've ever driven. one because it required time to construct Yes, it's costly, very costly
Imran, great work as always. I've checked forums/MSS website and wondered what you'd recommend for springs for an E91 330i M-sport. I want to keep the ride height the same ? Thanks in advance.
Keeping ride height the same you’ll not have much choice. Bilstein B12 kit is always a great option but will lower the car. B14 coilovers would probably let you set it at stock height.
@@vollcare4076 we have a lot of customers fit MSS but retain stock ride height. Many people want handling/comfort improvements without the car being lowered.
MSS do not disclose spring rates. Admittedly it sounds too good to be true, but we have experienced it on multiple cars, and the difference can be pretty amazing.

Soo interesting, I love this
How much?
£2249 inc VAT fitted.
How much does an LSD cost including fitting?
Please email sales@evolveautomotive.com, thanks
How much is stage 1 and Lsd? Good to put price to
The two together are £2748 inc VAT
Lsd is the ultimate mod for a rwd, would've been nice to record 0-60 with lsd and without, to see what the extra traction does.
Due to so many variables we aren’t a fan of 0-60 especially on RWD cars, but would expect a fairly significant improvement.
@@EvolveAutomotive 20-70 or 60-120. Something in those lines, I get what you mean about rwd launch as a bit of damp weather like it is always in England will change the outcome.
That ending 😆 Don’t lie Imran you were slightly nervous 😆
Yeah a little 😅
@@EvolveAutomotive we gotta collab on something bro! Didn’t know you had this energy 😂 had my 140i now got the m2...check out my channel if you get a sec
Evolve best in the game 🚀🚀
Video la meilleur de yt
How do I know if I have an open diff I have a 2017 340i m sport
You almost definitely do. With the car jacked up will be able to spin one wheel and the other will spin the opposite direction.
@@EvolveAutomotive Thanks, if its a limited slip what will happen?
Both wheels should spin the same direction. I’m sure if you Google/UA-cam it you’ll get an better how to someone has made
7:42 I thought the wavetrack lowers the car down 😂
The biggest flaw are the subframe bushings.. lol.. if you ever go to a track, you will see that the disconnected feeling in the back isnt the diff.. it helps, sure.. but it aint the biggest flaw..
Yes I mentioned the bushes and that they have been changed to solve this.
@@EvolveAutomotive Oh i didnt hear that, sorry. the bushes from millway are superb, 0 play in them, because of solid aluminium..just like the M2. You should consider using them.. it isnt to hard to remove the old ones, you can do it with everything in place except the exhaust, just make some bolts to lower the subframe on, and press one by one out..
Take my money.. Please just take it!! need one for my 140i.. very VERY soon!!
sales@evolveautomotive.com, see you soon 😉
I don’t know I like the instability I’m not trying to get lap times on my way to and from work, just want to slip here and there
No lsd isn't ideal for the biggest flaw is that it handles like a shopping trolley. Wouldnt sell it for the world though
The rain would give a different story mostly in Britain
In low grip situations like rain the difference would be even bigger!
This o should teach T R hamza to drive
Mr North face himself
If I get an M car I’m coming to you guys
If I get a M car it would be a remote controlled (toy) one but I would tune it at evolve to 3 BHP
How much does this cost?
The Wavetrac including installation is £2249 inc VAT
Is that an r33 👀
Boss! video :)
