Did this today in about 25 minutes and that included 10 minutes drilling out the two screws I stripped. Easy peasy. Another 10 for that silly skinny gasket.
I too had the exact same problem. I ordered the battery months ago on Amazon. It was time today to put it in. Great instructions. My battery was swollen up 3 x thicker!!! Exacto knife for the goop and #0 phillips and soldered in just as on video. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Great video. Thanks a lot. I had ordered a new main battery, like for 800 $, but it did not resolved the issue !!! My Haibike has like 6000 miles so I thought the display turning off was caused by the main battery going dead. It was not. I switched displays with another similar bike and it worked fine. I will get a new display since I am pretty sure I will screw up if I start the soldering process you presented and executed with great detail. Thanks again !!
Thank you so much for this video! Following your steps solved my problem completely! After struggling with those 2 screws covered in goop, I simply drilled the heads out with a small drill bit and relied on the remaining 5 screws to hold the unit together after soldering in the replacement battery. Bravo to you for posting this video!
Great video - thanks. For those wanting to order a new battery before getting their controller apart, the dimensions of the original battery are about 30mm x 20mm x 4mm. Do not exceed the 20mm width as it has to fit between the spring contacts with the back, and a bracing post.
thanks for the vid.. mine is still working.. but this vid is going in to my diy folder. i typed in "502030" on amazon the netherlands and got enough hits. Your vid was / is a great help.. Take care.. Thanks again.
Thanks A LOT !!!
Thanks for the great and helpful video. The screws take a #0 size phillips head screwdriver, which is typically found in a "miniature screwdriver" set for detail work. A #1 or (more common) #2 will likely strip the screws. I was able to scrape away the waxy screw lock material over the middle screws with a tiny straight bladed screwdriver and clear the path before attempting to remove the screws.
I had the same problem, but all I did was put 4volts to the battery terminals , not the wires, for about 5mins and it brings the battery up to 4 volts and it's been working ever since. Happy Days.
Hey Bro , you are very good. Not the Superman, like many other Videographer present themselves. Also the hint with the danger if the amateur cuts both wires together, was perfect. Good man. A small hint from my side: Take a picture of the board before you do modifications.
Hi, Thanks for your video as it helps a lot. I have a question as i need to replace my display. if i buy one i need to program the display with the bike or just replace it and all works fine ? Thanks
was fun to watch.. btw i also leave the computer off most of the time.. so this will happen to me to eventually.. i have no choice live in a apartment my bike stays in the basement garage accessible to everyone living in the complex so i want to keep as much stuff off the bike as possible .
to your final statement about the reason of malfunction: as i know the manual says you have to remove the main battery if your bike is not used for longer periods.
Thanks for this valuable tip. I have the same Intuvia. Isn't there an issue innstalling a 250 mA instead of the original 500 mA ? Your point of view shall be appreciated.
So this is definitely the issue I have. I havent open my unit but I can swear by the battery being dead. I always take the unit off to prevent theft. I usually charge the bike and the head unit might be in my coat. Not once did anyone notify me of the charging process. I'm now looking to buy a solder kit and batteries off amazon and they will be here in a months time. The dealer for my bicycle has not yet gotten back to me except basically troubleshooting. What a silly design flaw... if youre not aware of it.
funny thing.. all while you where de-soldering i was thinking ok.. top one is negative.. after you said i'm going to pause the vid.. i thougt. ok i'm going to mark the pcb negative with a black marker..
I have done as you suggest at the start of the video and I can get the controller to come on by pressing the reset on the battery. Will it work as normal once it is on so can I continue to use it in this way? It's not a great problem switching it on this way every time but I am not clear why this works and if the unit once it's on will continue to function during a bike ride as normal. Any advice would be helpful thanks.
It does charge from the main battery and newer versions appear to be capable of turning the head unit on periodically every so often in order to recharge the battery. I don’t know if that is a firmware upgrade able feature though.
Please first try to charge the battery via the usb. My charger for my samsung phone works very well for this. My display died today after exactly 1 year use. I am now chargeing it.
Yes I'm also having this problem and like you trying to charge via the USB port. Mine also goes off while charging so not sure this will work. One work around I have found however is that if I connect a usb power pack to the head unit whilst it is in its handlebar cradle I can switch the bike on and it will work. Not a permanent solution so hopefully the usb charge will work, if not probably have to buy a new head unit.
@@createthisdotcom I'm not sure I didn't check on it but it's definitely strange and I'm worried a little sometimes as when I'm like 20miles away and if it wouldn't turn back on I would have to Pedal back a 60p bike with no assist

Had the same problem with my Hercules bike. I've ordered replacement battery and can't wait soldering. Thanks!
Thanks for the detailed walkthrough! Was helpful to have confirmation regarding battery details, etc.
excellent video. skills far beyond my pay grade. Will buy new one!

I did the same. Add a dab of sealant over the now open screw holes.

Can confirm those dimensions are correct. Mine was a bit taller though at 5mm, so there might be a bit more space in there
Really a good and complete tutorial. And createthis has really good skills in electronics. It becomes easy to solve this issue. Thank you.

Great help - only caution loosen screws evenly- unfortunately I didn't and broke 2 plastic posts. Waiting for new battery to arrive.

That sucks. Did you test the battery with a volt meter (multimeter) and confirm it has sufficient voltage? Also double check the polarity.
Hi,
Thanks for your video as it helps a lot. I have a question as i need to replace my display. if i buy one i need to program the display with the bike or just replace it and all works fine ?

Before doing this you can first check if the battery is really death by trying to charge it with a micro usb cable first.
Thank you!

How old was the unit? I have the Nyon and the battery went within one year. Got a new on warranty, next time i might have to solder myself.
I got the same controller as you but it started to not work anymore.what could be the cause of it?

Great !!! Thx
Thanks for the video @createthis. Did your odometer keep the miles or did it reset? I'm concerned of losing odometer miles.
Odo doest reset with empty battery. Only clock and trip kinda stuff
@@Jandejongjong appreciate your response. Thank you
i would apply sum silicone grease to the gasket never hurts and is good to keep the gasket healthy and the seal waterproof.
I first put my bike computer in the charger ... and it works, maybe it is better to charge it and if it doesn't work, then renew the lithium battery

I’m pretty sure it kept the mileage.

Does the head unit battery charge from the main battery? And does anyone know which chip is the lipo charger?
It does charge from the main battery and newer versions appear to be capable of turning the head unit on periodically every so often in order to recharge the battery. I don’t know if that is a firmware upgrade able feature though.
What does it mean if nothing happens when I press the on button on the battery?
Either the battery isn’t charged or it is broken.

Did it charge tho?mine is charging right now but it goes on/off while charging

Take out a screw because of empty battery or 100 buks...
Press hard so screw driver hard into srew don’t let it slip
Makes sense my display keep going off during the ride and I have to restart it .
I’ve never had that happen before. Is this perhaps a contact issue? Carbon on one of the contacts or a worn spring?

Just for the info leave the battery in the bike and charge it like that it will charge the console battery to
I think it only charges when the bike is on though.
Crap Bosch battery. 1 year, always on the back, and now I got the same issue.
