You're a prime example of the kind of business owner I trust. Someone who just speaks honestly, knows what they're selling, and has no interest in expanding beyond what they're passionate about and potentially deceiving and squeezing their customer base. You may never be a multi-millionaire, but you'll foster a community of loyal customers and friends and that is what all businesses should strive for.
Not sure if you have ever had the pleasure of working with Mr. Thrall, but he is an awesome example of a small business owner doing it right. About 7 years ago I got a form check from Mr. Thrall when I first started barbell training. He charged a reasonable price (no crazy “I’m a UA-camr/fitness influencer” price). He was flexible when I needed to reschedule due to unforeseen circumstances . And, he spent an hour and half with me, checking my form on the big 4 lifts (SBD & OHP). Great experience and great human. I hope to make it to Untamed Strength again to just pay for a day pass and train.
Never met Alan in my life and I genuinely think he’s one of my better role models. Speaks volumes for the quality of his content and messaging over the years
The point about not liking asking for money is relatable. Thats also an unfortunate effect of inflation. People are used to major corporations increasing price or rent shooting up, but it feels more personal when a small business charges 80 dollars a month. Even though 80 dollars a month today would be just 55 dollars a month in 2010. Very reasonable. But to a lot of people, they hear 80 and just mentally think it'll be damn 100 soon!
80$/mo is nothing..access to combo racks, specialty bars, calibrated plates, deadlift platforms, strong man equipment, and group of people with the same goals ready to help you out, and an owner thats so humble and puts people first is def 80$ well spent.
My MMA gym in Aus in $60pw (aud obviously) which is pretty standard. $80pm for a somewhat speciality gym that has classes and stuff as well seems like a great deal to me.
Your journey started a bit sooner than mine. I'm a gym owner from Croatia. And I've started with ground dust practically, I've built my own gym from almost nothing. We share 99% of opinions on questions asked. I love to see people who stayed level headed despite success, or perceived success.
$500 a month on TP is insane...... that would be $16 a day which, using moderate pricing, would mean you guys go through ~16 rolls a day. So almost an entire roll of TP an hour. What kind of monster shits are being taken there? Those poor toilets.
i feel you on the marketing thing i absolutely do not give a fuck about marketing myself anymore, but like you i also carry myself with integrity and try and offer a good service. I let my service speak for itself and i find myself with enough work to handle without having to go out and sell shit.
Yeah great advice, dont let information overload start you from starting. Whatever happens you will scramble and figure it out. Just started a new head chef position at a small location, never been in MGMT before. I just keep trying to stay productive, put good food out, order the food i need and the rest follows
Thanks for the straight from the shoulder info. Having been a small businessman most of my adult life, I think that you have boiled it all down to several excellent pointers for those needing honest and actionable guidance early in their life.
Lifetime is 150 month. I like the towel service and sauna. Super busy. One decline bench. One incline bench. 😂 80 is more than fair. I would pay more to find somebody (competence) to critique my squat, deadlift and overhead press. I've worked out since 11 years old, but it's really difficult to coach yourself.
Keep up the great work brother man. I love seeing another Devil doing great for themselves. I wish there where a strongman gym near me. You need to expand to the east coast.
I love the story about selling the marine kit. I remember when we were in school, all the boys who were with the army would come back from camp and make a killing selling off the spare boots they were issued! More often than not, people got more kit than was recorded, so they sold anything they had as extra. The boots were in big demand. I bought a pair myself!
serious question.. contrast to your training and Q&A sessions, which is pretty deadpan, you have a very funny and creative personality.. have you always had those two sides of yourself or did you develop for your YT channel and would you ever so standup or stories from the gym from a stage… I think you would have a lot to share ✊🏾💪🏾
You're gonna have to move to Texas if you want to find a place that can accommodate everything you want to do with a larger gym. And the tax rate will be significantly lower.
How many hours can you spend in a gym for your 80 bucks. Compare that to spending the same time in a movie theater bowling alley etc. The gym is the best value for recreation you can find.
You seem like a great guy & gym owner, however $80 is more than double of the most expensive gym in my county but I'm in NC and I'm sure prices are different in your county. Just shows how different, parts of our country are, $80 is good where you are but here where I am that would be a fortune to pay for a gym, nobody would pay that here. With more & more people starting their own home gyms, I wish you luck Alan with your gym. I like you & your channel and I wish you well.
My mind is so blown about $80/month. Anything even remotely similar around here is $250-300/month, easily. The nicer places are almost $400/month. I get that local economics are the issue here, but it's still a tough pill to swallow.
Hell yeah, that's awesome about the military gear. Those bastards made me pay for gloves I got in basic training that surprisingly didn't survive 6 years.... I guess they expected me to not throw away what remained of them, which wasn't much.
I know youre not the best marketer since this is the only fitness channel not talking about Jeff being throat punched. :D Jokes asides, love this channel.
Did you feel a need to get profesional certification or education to help people train? I have the notion that I would need to have a background in "fitness education" or something that gives "authority" to be a trainer/owner in general.
Listen my new house is 1.5 miles away from us. All the ads in the world won’t get people into the gym. Ease of access and comfortability will get people in.
80$ per month is nothing. The same gym in my country would cost the same if we had such gym at all. But the salaries are one third of what you have in US.

it's not crazy, and you can cancel it after a month of trying out, I would definitely try it out.
Not to mention the gloryhole

Women use when pee
Its a hardcore gym
Untamed shits, of course.
BS
well these folks are on a high protein diet 😂
Honesty, just figuring it out, and making it happen. The story of MOST successful small business owners!

Fortunate son playing while he talks about selling his military gear was funny lol

Fantastic series of videos. You are an exceptional example of a smart and good small business owner.
Keep up the great work brother man. I love seeing another Devil doing great for themselves. I wish there where a strongman gym near me. You need to expand to the east coast.
I have no desire to open a gym, but it's just nice to hear the perspective of a genuine person with integrity. Cheers and good luck 🫡
The best part of this video is when you were talking about your time in the military, and CCR started playing 😂

Good seeing you up in Big Sur brother. Glad you got some time away with the family to recharge.
$80 a month is an insanely reasonable price for a 24-hr access specialty gym membership.
As a recepcionist, working for Untamed Strenght seems so easy going and less stressful
If I lived in Alan's part of the country, I would definitely go to his gym.
You're gonna have to move to Texas if you want to find a place that can accommodate everything you want to do with a larger gym. And the tax rate will be significantly lower.
That would be awesome.
80$ a month for a private dedicated 24/7 strong/power gym is VERY fair.
Thanks for the real information Alan. I push the retirement button in a week and a gym is a potential on my list
I would just enjoy your hobbies and travel if you can afford it.
What area are you located?

Wow ty for the insight and sharing your experiences...
You ROCK Alan!
What a gem of a gym! $80.00 / month is a steal! Hell $100.00 / month and a home away from home still a deal! Much future success sir 🫶
if ur looking for equipment find auctions near they always have good stuff
Worth more than 80 a month just or the access and the sound system.
How many hours can you spend in a gym for your 80 bucks.

The gym is the best value for recreation you can find.
Great talking points here!
I haven't watched part 1 yet but what about insurance? Especially since it is unstaffed...or does that not make a difference?
Power through it!
I saw that you're hosting the PSL qualifier this year. You should do a video discussing it
love the Background Zeppelin

Push pull legs offer the right amount of training frequency for every body part. How does it not make sense?
Are you comfortable facing away from the rack - backing up to rack the bar?
Alan, it won't hurt to advertise your gym. Since its 24hr/365, you should maximize your profits.
My mind is so blown about $80/month. Anything even remotely similar around here is $250-300/month, easily. The nicer places are almost $400/month. I get that local economics are the issue here, but it's still a tough pill to swallow.
Holy sh*t $80/month would be a steal here in TN, let alone Cali
I would love to train in your gym.
Hell yeah, that's awesome about the military gear. Those bastards made me pay for gloves I got in basic training that surprisingly didn't survive 6 years.... I guess they expected me to not throw away what remained of them, which wasn't much.
As a family man, do you do stuff for families now?
I know youre not the best marketer since this is the only fitness channel not talking about Jeff being throat punched. :D Jokes asides, love this channel.
Would installing bidets ease the expense of toilet paper ?
Install a bidet on your toilets & I bet the toiletpaper cost goes down! I have no science to back this up, but I do like the bidet I use.
I thought the stronghair and strongbeard had made a comeback from the thumbnail. 😢
Did you feel a need to get profesional certification or education to help people train? I have the notion that I would need to have a background in "fitness education" or something that gives "authority" to be a trainer/owner in general.

Great song btw

I'd join your gym if I'd live anywhere near. But there is an ocean in between 😄
how do you get free tires?!
How can you trust your members not to steal im the night if no one is there to watch?
80$ a month is a bargain i guess as a lot of crossfit gyms are 100$ with very limited open hours.

Wished I lived nearby. $80 is a bargain.
I'd go here If I lived close.
I want to build huge legs and run, and also train. please can someone run a programme for me. I am finding it hard to do.
Either you get huge quads by lifting, or small more enduranced legs running.
If you want big legs do sprints along with weight training.
$80 is not expensive to not have to deal with the commercial gym hordes
I'd gladly pay $80 a month for your facility regardless of my income.
I would sell my body to you for 1/10th of your equipment. Shaved or not, your call.
💀
bro
80 is cheap!
Wtf aren't people taking a 💩at home!?! Thats insane!
6k per yr f0r tp is insande
train untaaaaaaaamed
80 dollars a month means people who are there are there with a purpose. It keeps the twats out.
U need a professional UA-cam thumbnail designer?
Stealing government issued equipment is wrong, Alan. My ACH helmet alone was worth hundreds. You chose the easier wrong over the harder right.
80 is pretty good but it's still only 35 where I am...
And even though the cardio equipment sucks....they do have all the strongman equipment.
Americans are really lucky, damn
80 for his gym in Sacramento is very fair
