  • In the fifth episode of the 1967 MGB GT restoration and respray project, we're diving into some crucial steps to get this classic ready for paint! Here's a sneak peek of what's in store:
Prepping the Bonnet for Paint: I take you through the process of preparing the primed bonnet for paint.
Epoxy Metal Filler Application: I use epoxy metal filler to address some affected areas; this filler not only provides excellent adhesion to metal but is also known for its durability and corrosion prevention properties.
Shaping the Wing End/Fins: I focus on shaping the wing ends around the base of the tail lights. Previously, these areas didn't quite match the tail light profile, so getting them looking seamless and fluid is a small detail that will make a big difference to the overall finish.
Wing Insides Prep: Prior to applying primer, I prep the wing insides. This involves using POR15's 3-stage process, which includes degreasing and etching. I also share an important lesson learned when I skipped this process on a section of bare metal on the inside quarter of the tub.
Stay tuned for this episode to see these crucial steps in action. Don't forget to subscribe to the channel so you won't miss out on any updates and the progress of the MGB GT restoration journey!

Thanks so much for your interest and comment! It means a lot. I absolutely plan on finishing this series, the car is now done and back with its owner looking lovely and fresh however, we have moved and upsized workshops recently (videos to come very soon) and have had other interesting jobs in so editing has taken a back seat 😭 I’ll get back on editing this series asap and look forward to showing you the finished result 🤩 Hope your 3 are going well, sounds like some exciting projects!

Congratulations on a very nice series. I'm halfway through a similar project on a MK1 (May, '66 build, Mineral Blue, ex-California car). The bodywork (a few parking lot dents) and paint is finished; a new wire harness and complete re-trim is next. Finish work on a '74 TR6 will happen soon to free up garage space for the MGB GT. Best regards from the US.

Hi David, thank you! Finishing editing the rest of the series very soon - had a slight delay whilst we moved into a bigger workshop! Your projects sound very exciting - best of luck with finishing them and making space for an MGB GT! 😃

Nice one! Is it an MGB you’re looking at restoring?
I primed with a relatively cheap and cheerful 1.8mm A.N.I F1/N and used a 1.2mm Devilbiss GTI Pro Clear for paint. I used direct gloss paint mixed to the original paint code by a local paint supplier 🙂
