Hey dude! Been to long how you been. Did you get the chance to play AOE 3 DE. Because? I just bought the game today and bought the new DLC. The United States is now a new Civilization to play now in AOE 3 DE.
FUN FAKT: If you could complete this map without resorting to debt, you've proven yourself to be an abler administrator than Gaius Julius Caesar - who historically embarked on his rise to power first as governor at Mediolanum. Then again, not all leaders can be managers and vice versa. Ironically, it was all the debts that Caesar accumulated that launched him on his quest to pacify Gaul, then become dictator of Rome.
It was this mission that Cesar sent his army to destroy me... most of my troops were helping his other city so I was like “I guess this is it... I go save his city so he can destroy mine” then while he’s ransacking my city, his other city is saved and his army withdrew! It was pretty epic! I love watching this game! Unfortunately I can never catch a stream so I’m happy all your play throughs end up on UA-cam. Thank you! I am forever grateful!
I just realized when you click on markets and on warehouses, the voices are in Italian! They say "Prego signori, prego!" that means "Please gentlemen, please [come in]" While in warehouse they seem to say "Prego venite venite", that's "Please come in, come in" Love your contents!
@2:10:00 Imagine being a lowly Roman soldier stationed in Mediolanum, what 2000 years later would be known as the city of Milan. It's the year 549 Ab urbe condita, or 204 BC. Talk in the legion is that an invasion is coming. There are rumors of the enemy bringing magnificent beasts of war, walking on four legs the size of pillars. But by the gods, that can't be true! You finish training at the Fort and are sent just outside the borders of the city. And then you hear the dreaded: dooDOO dooDOO dooDOO dooDOO dooDOO AAAAAAAAHHHH dooDOO doDOO dooDOOO dooDOO dooDOO dooDOO AAAH dooDOO dooDOO AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH
As you enter Mediolanum as a trader, there is an outcrop of rock. It extends quite a ways North. Most of your attacks come from this direction. Every invasion enters from just North of the outcrop, on the Northwest side or on the Northeast side. You can assemble choke points at the North end of this outcrop and over on the Northeast side. I like to create a road starting a bit South of the outcrop. I place a Gate House and run the road around the outcrop. Placing a double wall on the outside of this road, I put as many towers as will fit. Then I run another double layer of wall outside of the towers. When the Barracks has placed Batista on top of these towers, it's a formidable defense. You must have a road connection to the Barracks for them to create towers. The Eastern choke point is just made the same with more walls filling in gaps. I had 3 elephant break the two layers of wall and destroy a tower to enter the court yard. They then received bolts from the balistae on the other side of the court yard. I had a legion of javelineers waiting for them if they broke out.
It was also my favorite back as a kid And that even though it took me an eternity (like, months irl) to finish it. Only Carthage comes close to this, fighting the Punics is just so fun and scary! :D
Pro Tip, when you have 100 farms and 1 empty granary, build more granaries to increase production. Having only one creates a bad supply/demand problem and the farms won't produce as much. For that kind of centralized food production (in the north), 6 granaries with the closest one to the market set to get. Massive difference
great vid i really enjoy this caesar series 56:32 makes all the sence, imagine you are in a caravan full of goods you need to unload/sell them first in order to get the new goods.
Thank you very much for introducing me to the Augustus mod. I always loved Pharaoh and the lack of road blocks in Caesar III was driving me crazy - leading to me never getting far in the campaign. Now I can finally change that.^^
Hello Mr. GamerZakh. I would only like to say, that Im casual user of youtube gameplays video, but I really enjoy your product, attitude and your person as it is. Keep on going, youtubers like you are very welcome, even for a „stranger”. Best!
Re-watching these, because why not, they're fun, and it hit me! You CAN have 4x4s in this map, Venus Grand Temple supplies wine that COUNTS as an extra type (if you produce wine, you don't here but can import!) so, there you go!!
Venus blessing does not "wear out", it is a one-off! It lowers the age of your population over 25 by three years so your workforce is increased. With the passing of time, your people re-age, so to speak, and they retire, again! If another blessing is received, the cycle repeats. It is not like Neptune who blesses you for 12 months or Ceres who blesses the next crop, it has effects for up to 3 years! Probably the most useful blessing, especially on maps with large pop targets.
Absolutely loving this series! Really liking how the forced walker works. Would love to see a campaign play through of roller coaster tycoon 2 as I love the micromanagement :)
21:07 - When you get pocket money as a kid for the first time. Great city, it will be interesting to see how far the forced walker technique can go and how much of 'redundant' services a longer loop will have. One thing I found is, that at really large scales, even the timing aka the gaps inbetween walkers can be important for stability. In Pharaoh even more. Love the new series :)
Great videos, love the force walkers playthrough. Just gotta recommend building Venus grand temple, it produces wine, which would count towards second type of wine :)
with the loop its more of a timing problem than a lenght problem. If you time the forced market ladies to go around exactly when the other one is on the other side of the lake, it should be possible with 2 market ladies, at least if they are able to get food really fast. with that I mean, you could probably make the markets one tile closer to the grenary.
@Dyanosis well it is still the main problem. not the actual number on markets or lenght of the loop. and you most likely have to do it just once, because the loop ladies are always running around.
My nickname is Annibal due to a certain Carthaginian general (altough with the latinized spelling without the H) and i live in Milan, that was Mediolanum in Roman times. Ergo, my favourite mission, sad I missed it on stream :( But now i get to enjoy 2.5 hours of C3!
You could try combining the loops by having it side by side, kinda like butterfly wings. 2 loops but one of the road shared, then add inner loop within the big loop

No way you didnt have the neptune blessing before? I didnt know about some blessings but knew about the curses always :) Here are the blessings a. Ceres: Production on all Fruit, Olive, Vegetable, and Wheat Farms is instantly set to 100%. One-time event. b. Mars: A Spirit of War guards your city, doing some damage to an invading army the next time your city is attacked. Effective until the next time your city is attacked. c. Mercury: One of your granaries is filled with 600 each of Fruit, Meat, Vegetables, and Wheat. One-time event. d. Neptune: All export prices are doubled. Effective until the following January. e. Venus: Population mood increases. One-time event.
This is a two year old video, but I just want to say that this mission was always where my career for Caesar stopped. Watching this, I’m ready to give another try for Rome!
Good luck! This is a tough one yeah. Generally people get stuck here or on Lugdunum. It's because these maps are an unstated test to see if you really understand how the game works along with it's weird (and sometimes illogical) mechanics. Earlier maps (and even many later ones) give a lot of room for inefficiencies.

By the way I feel that on maps where you need exports badly, the Mercury Grand Temple helps a lot. With merchants carrying more stuff and moving faster you can actually at least approach the maximum export on any products, which is where I seem to falter in making money, later on. That and the Pantheon, to help reduce levies which are EXPENSIVE AS HELL!
@Dyanosis Usually when I say things like that about Mars blessings it's just because once in a while I actually try to get a blessing and then get reminded how hard it is to actually trigger it. Main thing to note here, my army didn't even come close to being defeated at any point and I know how to defeat the largest invasion without an army at all, so I really don't need the blessing and am not relying on it. You're right that the Mars blessing is insignificant and I know that. It's just I don't manage to explain everything I'm thinking in detail when live and doing a bunch of other things in my head.

Why don't you utilize all types of farms, ie, vegetables, vines, olives, pigs and the wheat?
