Don't underestimate the power of vulnerability when it comes to truly connecting with an audience that is here because we are invested in you and Paula as human beings. Watching you wrestle with your future in the sport that you love so much is absolutely heart-wrenching. What I will say is this: don't focus on the long view when you are injured, it is too easy to cloud the issue and feel despondent. You and Paula have built a great community and skillset that will ensure that WHEN it's time to hang it up, you are not only financially stable, but likely still connected to the sport you love. You are in your "dark" era in Triathlon (for lack of a better term). I can't think of a single top tier pro that hasn't gone through a year or two struggling with injury and not being able to quite put the pieces together. And most of them have come back to transcend with astounding performances! I'm sure Paula can empathize better than most! You'll come out of this, your body wants you to back off a bit, so be it. Usually when you give it what it wants, it will repay the favor. I get it, you only get so many years in Tri before you have to yield to the new blood, so patience is not a luxury professionals can often have, but it IS often rewarded. Have fun this year, play on dirt, make great art, and heal. We will be here cheering you on the whole time! ❤
Eric that was special. You're a special human being and what Paula and yourself have done with TTL is AMAZING. I was on course and saw the TTL kits out there. I got to see you come out of the water right before my start. I just want to sincerely say thank you for all of your inspiration and hard work. Your creativity is unmatched.
Eric, I’ve never commented on a single video on UA-cam, but I’m 53 and I’ve had four hip arthroscopy operations since I was 35. I still ride, I still pretend I’m fit (compared to most I suppose I am), but if there was one thing I’d say it’s to embrace the future. Yes, you get a little fatter and in my case, my hair fell off my head and seemingly stuck to my body! What you film with the channel is superb, stay positive and enjoy what time you have racing. Most of us would love to have your talent, even with the dodgy hip!
Beautiful video, Eric. Your monologue was infinitely better than race footage. I know you don't know how many more left you have in you, but I hope they are fulfilling and you enjoy every last one of them. It's been a privilege being able to enjoy the sport through your eyes.
Eric, I know you’re not a fan of the “monolouges”, but I have to tell, I like these the best. You’re just such a natural storyteller and it’s easy to get caught up with the story. My favourite videos are the ones, where you combine beautiful shots with your storytelling in the background.
The video was wonderfull, and TTL nation is here if you decide racing is over for you just as much as if you decide you want to continue. We came for the triathlon, we stay for you and Paula
Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Your authenticity is very touching and real. Must not be easy to speak to a camera like that, it is courageous & appreciated!
Love the style variation in this one.. Your incredible artistic ones will always be my favorites but this was cool. Congratulations on the finish and hope you and Paula have an amazing season.
Super raw video Eric. You're a bad ass human being. The most genuine and kind person in Triathlon. You did that race for all the right reasons. Gotta love it and I did.
I know its not your favourite format of video, but god you're good at it. I love this style and its what really pulled me in to triathlon and TTL Naysh! Incredible work in St Anthonys and I really hope to see you on more start lines this year. Amazing work Eric, you're an incredible athlete!
Good on you Eric! I love your passion for Paula, for Triathlon, and for life. Don't ever change! You are an inspiration to so many! Thanks for a great video.
So much heart in this video Eric. One of your best, in my opinion. I know you don't like talking so much but thank you for sharing this way and showing the true love and passion you have for this sport. Looking forward to all the things that lie ahead for you, Paula and the amazing TTL community you've created. 🫶
That was a special one man. Thanks for pouring your heart into the community and being vulnerable on camera. The cinematic experiences you create are undeniably amazing to watch, but it’s also very special to experience your raw motion in these moments. I greatly appreciate that!
So special what you and Paula share every week, no matter if videos or podcast. Keep doing what you do we love it for your authenticity and vulnerability 🔥
Thanks for being willing to share your bittersweet thoughts. Definitely emotional for you and for us. You've got an impressive career still in progress, in whatever form it takes. And you have a future with Paula, which will be even more amazing.
Thank you for your authenticity, your vulnerability and your creativity. As a 63-year-old age group triathlete, I am inspired by both you and Paula and your athletic journey. Your videos motivate me to be the best version of myself. Thank you for sharing your feelings. You made this old gal tear up. You have much to be proud of.
Thanks so much for sharing the real you Eric! 💪 Keep enjoying as much as possible in whatever you do, and welcome the space for other interesting projects in the future! You’re a create content creator and filmmaker…being able to connect through photography/film/podcast is not always the easiest, and you make it look like easy! 👌🤗 Also the community you both are building is amazing and make us all TTL community members feel some sort of triathlon belonging even as amateurs 😃🤗🎉 All the best guys!
Thank you Eric for sharing you with us. Between what you can capture in others while filming and now this…it’s so much of what makes y’all so special and absolutely wonderful to watch ❤️🔥
I had hip labral surgery last June. Was running by October. Everyone's body responds differently, and I tried (and researched) non-surgcal options for more than a year. My surgeon told me it was less about numeric age, per se, than about how fit/strong an individual is when it comes to recovery. I've never commented before but just wanted to share that. Longtime listener. Not a triathlete but runner, and your podcasts make the lomg trail runs fly by. Best of luck in continuing creative endeavors and the hip!!!
Thanks for sharing, that’s really helpful. I’ve been thinking it’s time to go in for another opinion since I’m sure the surgery landscape has changed since I made the decision to push on 7 years ago
Loved this video and hearing your side of the race and how you balance racing and your other related passions. Good for you for putting your passions first.
your art/craft/sport ... is a sensational, mental, and spiritual lift, to the spirits of anyone living and training. thankyou Eric....for your heart & brilliance. Pete from Canada.
Loved that. Have listened to every podcast and I dip in and out the vlog. It’s just easier to listen on the move than sit and watch. But that was ‘perfect’. I was wondering what was going on with you as I watched and it all made sense at the end. The ‘self conscious’ is a big part of what makes it great. Keep doing that. 🙏
You’re an inspiration Eric and your sentimental moments get me every-time. Thanks for keeping it real. We’re here for your journey and are cheering you on for it ALL.
This video got to me! I can totally understand why certain races mean much more than just the race it's self! They are a reminder of how far we've come or a moment in the past that gets to us! A bit deep I know but I think its true! Keep up the good work 👍
That was incredible! I have been following you guys for a few years. I wondered sometimes why and now I know. You guys inspire us in many ways!! Thank you and good luck in Alabama !
Amazing video Eric! I know you strive to convey emotion through your films and you really hit the nail on the head with this one. Got me in the happy feels and excited to race my two olympic distance races in the coming weeks (in a TTL kit of course :) )
This was amazing content, Eric, because it was you being the authentic person that people appreciate in all of your work. Love all of the creative content always, but this may have been one of the better pieces you have put together. Thank you for everything you pour into documenting all aspects of being a true professional. Keep up the great work!
Love the talking to camera, gives great insight into the life of a pro triathlete and the people you encounter. One of your best videos in a while. Thank you for sharing. My wife and I saw you riding Saturday morning as you were filming. Fun race.
I followed the emotion with you Eric and the implication of what your injury means. All you can do is invest in what you can do, see the joy and give yourself a hug on the other stuff! I’m sure it’s hugely frustrating not to be able to do everything you want - the investment in showing the fab stuff you do I really enjoy… the emotion of the highs and lows matters too… Us age groupers have that in triathlon and other parts our life so very much relate. Great to hear about the race - it’s a new one on me so I’ll look to come over some point. Big high five from the uk
So cool Eric! Your emotions indicate a true dedication, a commitment to the experience, and an appreciation of the history of both this race and the sport in general. Cheers TTL!
Eric it was SO fantastic 🎉seeing you race! Super fun cheering for the other TTL members as well! 😊Take good care and thank you for all that you, Paula and the TTL team do! ❤
Absolutely loved to see the genuine passion you have for this sport and clearly for this race! I am about to start my season, in way less than my best shape but this was massively inspiring to remind me why I do it.....because I bloody love it! Thank you Eric!
Thanks for the recap Eric, you as the videographer and Flordia are unbeatable combination for a quality video. The Ventura tee is my type of tee, looking forward to the drop date. Don't want to miss out on that tee! You and Paula take care and be well!
Thanks Eric, for taking the time to share your feelings on everything, which are obviously complex. You’re forging a new path in the sport and while I know it has to be bittersweet, you’re inspiring a ton of athletes to chase after more fulfilling experiences, rather than ticking off races. Cheers man!
Eric, truly heart felt! You have created a community that supports every aspect of triathlon and that includes the personal side! Thank you, for let’s us in and sharing your feelings! Not an easy thing to do! Keep up the amazing work, and enjoy the journey of discovery!
👏🏼 Love the video, Eric! This is what Triathlon is all about. 🎵 Great music selection as well-would like to know the songs you used (especially the first 2) but understand if you’d rather not share. 🤙🏼 Thanks!
True sincerity, thank you for everything Eric. You hit the nail right on the head. Cheers to you and Paula and Flynn and the best is yet to come for sure
So raw. So awesome. Love seeing the vulnerability from someone that many people look up to in the sport. It was great meeting you and I certainly hope you'll be back next year.
Yeah, your videos are the best out there, but seeing the human side of you it's so inspirational. Loved it... thank you! Aim high in Alabama and also getting those cool vented seats one day :)
Loved this video and the personal insights you shared. As with everything in life, you don’t always know when the “last time” will be. Every day you wake up healthy is a gift.

As many as you want Eric. This sport stays in our soul and keeps you coming to the startline.
Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
Your authenticity is very touching and real.
Must not be easy to speak to a camera like that, it is courageous & appreciated!
Love you Eric. Chin up and enjoy the ride. If anything you have taught us all how to enjoy the moment. Appreciate the transparency and rawness.
Love the style variation in this one.. Your incredible artistic ones will always be my favorites but this was cool. Congratulations on the finish and hope you and Paula have an amazing season.
You are solid. Absolutely world class. Thank you for what you have brought to this sport and community. Shred till bed!!
What a vibe! So stoked you love St. Pete like we love St. Pete! Look forward to seeing you again next year! #scootergang 🛴
