    I came to beautiful Norway from Liverpool for a few weeks in 1975 and fell in love with the country and never went back.
    Oslo is quite industrialized and not really representative of the rolling countryside and the amazing scenery & fresh air that you find outside the capital.
    Travelling North in winter is like arriving in a wonderland, you really have to experience it at least once in a lifetime.
    Saunas are more of a Finnish tradition, but still quite popular here in Norway.
    Great production values and snappy editing make your videos extremely watchable, keep up the good work!

      My grandma was 100 percent Norwegian so I have plenty of Norwegian blood and have always wanted to go. What are the top places to see?

    • @tonyadigitalnorway1155
      @tonyadigitalnorway1155 4 роки тому

      @@skoolynugenator1802 Every town in Norway is unique in it's own way and you don't have to travel many minutes outside the town centre before you find yourself in the unspoiled countryside.
      There are so many beautiful places to see as most of Norway is steeped in history so you can't go wrong wherever you go.
      Oslo is not really representative of the rest of the country.
      Generally people are friendly and the quality of life is excellent.
      However it is expensive, so expect to be paying $15 US for a beer! 🍺

    • @skoolynugenator1802
      @skoolynugenator1802 4 роки тому

      TonyaDigital Norway thanks for responding. Would a week be enough time to experience the country? How much spending cash would I need for lodging, food etc.? Plenty of Airbnb’s available?

    • @tonyadigitalnorway1155
      @tonyadigitalnorway1155 4 роки тому

      @@skoolynugenator1802 A lifetime would not be enough to explore the beauty of Norway.
      As for loging & food the seret is all in the planning, there are many hostels an Airbnb scattered about, just hit the internet.
      You can do it on a tight budget by eating Big Macs instead of the gourmet restaurants and you can get great deals on rail passes.
      Flights withing the country are very expensive due to lack of competition but you can get lucky.
      As a rule, expect to pay up to x20 the cost of international flights!
      So rail is a great alternative and you get to see some of the amazing countryside.
      Norway is breathtaking in Summer and then later in the year magically turns into a Winter Wonderland.

      Edit: btw, I didn't say this but I actually live in Italy because of family reasons. It's currently the 16th May and today it was very cloudy, super humid and 27°C. I feel like I'm dying in the heat. Unfortunately, it gets even worse in July. The 40° weather is gonna murder me lol

      I have been in a sauna once or twice, thanks to my wife's passion for the practice. All I can say is I'm from Louisiana. in summer the entire state is a sauna. Steam bath actually. After three years living 50 miles south of Chicago I drove home to. Monroe, LA in August, arrived at my father's apartment (he was between wives at the time), got up in the morning, dressed in suit and tie, then walked out to drive to the local TV station to observe studio operations. The college I where I was teaching was going to put in a small studio of its own to add taped lectures so students could do one hour of school whenever they wanted to watch a video (this was in the. 70s, a decade before computers and a generation before remote teaching) When I strolled out into the sunlight on a typical Louisiana summer of a temperature of 85 degrees and a humidity of 85 percent, is was almost driven to my knees. I'd grown up living in a natural stream bath, thinking that's how everyone lived. After a military tour abroad and three years of teaching in Illinois, I was very rudely reminded of my roots.

      The statues are beautiful I think - I am an Oslo guide and I love taking people there. The whole concept of the park is «the circle of life», Vigeland was really good at showing humanity in all its aspects - from lust to grief, anger. Friendship, family, loneliness etc. It is amazing how detailed his carvings were, you can really see the emotions in the statues’ faces. Many of the statues are more symbolic than anything - Vigeland refused to say what exactly he meant to portray because he wanted people to interpret. But some of them are sort of obvious I think - the man “kicking” his children, that one I believe is about being overwhelmed by parenthood. The angry kid is really just an angry kid, with an expression very many parents recognize and that’s what makes it so popular I think.

Thank You so much for your effort of a youtube channel and helping my dream of travelling come true. Especially since if you take the regular train, you can use that ticket to go anywhere in the city with all the busses, trams, subways and even the ferry boats. Flytoget is a horrible deal and was built on an exclusivity deal to use a specific faster track that fell through really quickly (so the regular train also uses the same track), so it's reason to even exist was gone a very short time after it was built, why the government keeps subsidizing it and lets it live is totally lost to me.

    Spent almost two weeks in Norway on a college choir tour in 1981 and absolutely LOVED it! My bucket list for retirement includes taking my wife there. I especially remember the Vigeland scupture garden and travelling overland from Oslo to come out at the head of the Hardanger Fjord. The people were also wonderful and it didn't hurt that even 40 years ago many spoke English - not that there's any reason they SHOULD, but it made visiting there a little easier.

      But the Flytoget, is the better option going back to the airport, because they will give you a cab if the train is delayed and the will pay a new ticket if you miss your flight because of a delayed train. The cab paid by Flytoget was the only reason I made my flight back in March when there was no train at all.
