- According to newspaper reports, Bobby Campbell's position as Chelsea manager was under threat as he took his side to Old Trafford. Indeed, the Blues had opened the new season by taking only one point from their first six away games. Meanwhile, Manchester United were unbeaten in their last seven in all competitions. Pretty decent bunch of Chelsea players; Kerry Dixon, Durie, Townsend, Wise, Le Saux, Beasant and a young Graham Stuart!
Andy Townsend was such a good player, vastly underrated in my opinion 👍
He captained Ireland at USA '94, so he wasn't that underrated
Great support from Chelsea
God I miss those days of celebrating on a packed terrace. It's generally so dull & mundane in comparison nowadays. Not sure my back could handle it nowadays mind you. On the whole they were great times...win or lose, up zee Blues.
Chelsea beat all the top teams in 1990/91: United (a) 3-2; Liverpool (h) 4-2 and they were the only team that season in the league to beat champions Arsenal (h) 2-1. This at a time when they were giving some of their youth team products regular first team matches. Graeme LeSaux; Graham Stuart; David Lee and Damian Matthew are four names that immediately come to mind.

Went to Trafford lots with Chels 80s 90s 00s..we always took max support, night matches the same.. fking magic days

I can't believe that this Chelsea penalty was the last penalty what Chelsea got at Old Trafford. For 33 years and nearly 40 games in the League, Cup and Europe Chelsea haven't got a single penalty at Old Trafford, despite of so many penalty positions and VAR. How it that possible?
How Damian Matthew never made it bigger is a mystery to me. I played with him at Chelsea boys when 15 and he was head and shoulders above everyone else. He bossed everything…

I remember that Mike Phelan got "pilloried" by a lot of United fans because of what happened just before Chelsea's second goal. Given that he was surrounded by Chelsea players, Steve Bruce should never have passed the ball to him as you could tell that he wasn't expecting that pass!

Andy Townsend played for Norwich and Rep Of Ireland. Think we bought him around the Robert Fleck era 90? played for ireland loads of times. Think he works on footy games like fifa and is a pundit for ITV or was. There ya go, a small history lesson.
